I was deciding between buying this camera or a Sony one and I ended up getting the Sony HDR-XR500V for $860 (about the same price as this one).
The 120 GB hard drive instead of a 32 GB card is what made me pick that one. I tried it and the macro is great. It can focus on things less than 1 cm away from the lens and it also records at 120 fps if you want to make slow motion videos.
my friend, when you export for the web, what settings do you use. i use quicktime conversion h264 but i'm not sure i have the frame rate and bit rate correctly, could you please share your export settings. thanks, eternally grateful.
My compliments to you for this incredible video. I will purchase a HF S100 next week and will put stackable 58mm Century Optics Achromatic Diopter macro lenses on it for much closer detail. Very well done.
Beautiful example of the Macro capabilities of this camera. You really did a fantastic job!
I ordered our HF S100 two days ago and it should be here tomorrow. Macro in nature is probably my Modus Operandi when it comes to Photography, and I truly expect it to carry over into Videography at least two fold. I'll be recording a majority of my videos outdoors, in nature, so knowing that this Camcorder records Macro this well is amazing and really gets me excited.
Can you let me know what format you used to upload this video? I can't seem to get HD out of you tube. I have looked everywhere and used their settings and it still doesn't work for me. I am shooting in MXP 60i scaling it down to 720p for you tube. Thanks.
oh fuck this camera awesome.

I'm looking at getting this camera, but I'm wondering if my computer will be able to handle it.
My specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.6GHZ
3gb RAM
32-bit Vista
Editing on Vegas Platinum 9.0b
Thanks for the help!

I'm using an Intel Core 2 quad CPU Q6600 2.40 GHz
4 GB Ram
32 bit vista
ATI Radeon HD 3450
Editing with Corel Video Studio 12
It jumps when editing but the processing goes fine and the converted video plays fine.

@brdr45 you will find it will take a while but you should be fine

What kind macro lens did you use?
Hookfan88 2 years ago
You don't actually need one with this one. I had a wide angle lens on which caused the soft edges
MyTulsaWorld 2 years ago
@MyTulsaWorld Ironic how you use a wide angle converter for a macro test.

Yes it is. If you upload a higher resolution it will be shrinked to 720p.
