  • Never gets old. Thanks.

  • Did anyone noticed Grover sitting one of the rows?

  • @JDWolfman12271 I did. I used to think for some reason he was an elephant and not Grover.

  • i lovee youuu ernie and bert

    love from diego aged 5

  • GO ERNIE!!!!!!

  • The Lady With The Tall Hat Sounds Like Miss Mousey!!!!

  • FTW

  • What Movie Are They Watching?

  • This Is The First Sketch That Bert And Ernie

    Have Gone To The Movies!

  • Poor Ernie

  • Poor Bert

  • gotta love the loud whispering Bert does... lol

  • I always thought Bert and Ernie were brothers.

  • @kamdan2011 They don't look alike!

  • @kamdan2011

No, they are just best friends. Bert has a twin brother named Bart and Ernie is probably an only child.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't know that. I always think they're brothers, because they remind me of myself and my brother.

  • @kamdan2011

If you watch some of the old episodes, you will see references to the things that I have pointed out. In fact, the episode in which we meet Bert's brother Bart has been uploaded onto You Tube. Have fun watching it!

  • @kamdan2011 They're Roommates

  • I bet Bert enjoys that lap dance from Ernie. lol

  • why didn't he just transfer to the seat next to the lady...

  • I agree. Ernie should have done that. Maybe the reason he didn't shift to a seat next to the lady either because, the two seats next to the lady are for handicapped people or, maybe he wanted to sit next to Bert and he would feel bad walking away from Bert.

  • No your'e not Ernie!!!!!

  • Bert can never win when Ernie's around

  • Comment removed

  • Haha, I remember this.

  • @domialad thats not creepy at all....

  • This made me lol

  • From 1974. Not 1973.

  • My nephew Asees' favorite clips among Sesame Street's Ernie episodes! =) He likes Ernie...

  • now why would they let someone in with a hat like that?

  • "I'm sitting on your lap, Bert,"

  • 0:51, 1:21 - Ernie: Hmm... *point upwards, DING!*

1:30 - I like the way Bert says "Get off my lap!"

1:52 - "Now leave me alone so I can watch the movie!" The quick way Bert said that, I can just imagine if Ernie said that to the lady.

  • I'm sitting on your lap Bert :3

  • LOL THATS AWESOME

  • Poor Bert didn't see that coming, did he?

I'm surprised anyone was able to see the movie. The lady's hat is so tall, it should break the projector beam.

  • Bert should either grab Ernie and say, "I'm trading seats with you" or sit on Ernie's lap,

Bert could also just take his own advice and ask the lady nicely to please move her hat so he can see.

But she'd probably be clueless enough to block someone else again. Perhaps even putting it right back on her head.

  • "I know what! I'll sit on Bert's lap!"

"Ernie! What you doing? What you doing?"

"I'm sitting on your lap, Bert."

    "Wha- No your not, Ernie!"

    lol Five stars!

  • That is funny

  • @TyrantStudios and the ppl around them all going.. Shhhh!! lol

  • @angelgirl7473 OMG!

  • Hehe... What would happen if the lady said no? LOL!

  • ROFL! This is better than Family Guy! I LOVE IT! Its hilarious!

  • That hat is too tall! And too feathery!

  • LOL i'm sitting on ur lap, Bert.

    Ernie is so cute.

  • This is one of my favourite S.S. classic skits! It makes for a very good sociological situation, and I'm forced to wonder what I would do in Ernie's place. If anyone would say now-a-days, "Please lady, take off your hat", that would make for BIG trouble!

  • This sketch appears on: "Sesame Street" episode 0677 (November 19, 1974) "Sesame Street" episode 0830 (January 16, 1976) "Sesame Street" episode 0868 (March 10, 1976) "Sesame Street" episode 0931 (December 6, 1976) "Sesame Street" episode 1839 (November 24, 1983) "Sesame Street" episode 2482 (May 10, 1988) "The Best of Ernie and Bert" (1988) "Sesame Street" episode 3092 (March 9, 1993) "Plaza Sesamo" Episodio 839 (2005) "Sesame Street Old School: Volume 1" (2006)
  • And episode 1839 is the same episode in which Mr. Hooper's death is mentioned.

  • I remember watching this when i was 5 and i loved it,so i'm gonnna rate it a five

  • childish not gay.

  • I think Ernie should have done his trademark laugh aftrer saying thank you to Bert seeing the lady put her hat in front of Bert.

  • I always hated it when the TV station went on stand by because something went wrong while Sesame Street was on.

  • This video is adorable. Bert and Ernie are so funny.

  • its so funny when ernie is trying to sit on berts lap i lold haha

  • DING!!!!!!!!!! I know what...

DING!!!!!!!!!! I'll sit on Bert's lap

Paying to see the movie... about $20

Wasting money because the lady in front of you has tall hat... -$20

Watching Bert's face in the end... PRICELESS!!

  • Ah, Bert's exasperated sigh. The childhood memories

  • This one is an absolute classic. I remembered it from when I was a kid. Thanks for posting it.

  • XD at 2:16 berts face. Poor bert always gets pwned.

  • It,s funny how Bert tells Ernie to ask the lady nicely to take off her hat but in the end he orders "Now leave me alone so I can watch the movie!" A bit strange if I do say so myself. :)

  • Tell the lady he cannot watch...

  • LOL when she puts the hat in the chair you can see berts eyebrows rise lolers

  • haha

    i love ernie

  • I think they were being punk'd

  • "I'm gonna change seats with you, Bert" LMAO

  • Ernie sitting on his lap hahahaha : D

  • lmao bert got owned

  • Poor Bert, he just can't win. I love his groaning sound.

  • bitch gotta crazy ass hat

  • lol bert's always getting screwed over by ernie

  • Ernie:I'm gonna change seats with Bert.

    Bert's Thought:WHAT THE F****** IS HE DOING!

  • hahaha i love when he sits on his lap

  • Woman in the big hat

  • Considering how tall the lady's hat is, I'm surprised it doesn't block the very projection, judging from the height of the movie hall.

  • Sucks to be Bert!

I once had someone come into a theatre, sit BEHIND me after I'd been there 10 minutes, and they had the balls to ask ME to move, because I was too tall. I'm 5'2.

  • Ernie tried to switch seats with Bert

    but Bert wasn't having it!!!

  • Poor Bert, he never gets to enjoy the movies when he goes with Ernie. Though this time it's not really Ernie's fault... This is one of the reasons why I try to sit as high up in the hall as I can.

  • why didnt earnie just sit next to hat lady

  • Then the sketch wouldn't be funny.

  • of course i think it would be funnier if she was in front of bert and took of her hat and her hair was just as long

  • And it could have been even MORE funny if Ernie pushed down the lady and stole her hat and stomped on it

  • @wattamack4 No

  • @Obelisk2290 Plus Ernie wants to sit next to Bert.

  • @Obelisk2290 IDK

  • i'll sit on bert's lap!! ahahaha

  • Bert didn't see that coming?

  • I feel sorry for Bert...he always lose! :(

  • Not quite. He won on the mystrious nose snatcher skit.

  • Even if the lady put her hat on the floor, it would've obstructed the movie

  • If they re-did an episode of friends entirely played by muppets Bert would SO play Ross and Ernie would be Joey!

  • Instead of sitting on Bert's lap, why didn't Ernie just sit in the empty seat next to Tall Hat Lady? Who knows, he might have even gotten her phone number lol.

  • Naw, he couldn't cheat on Bert like that. That's just low. *lol*

  • Sure, the lady had a cute voice and all, but she wasn't whispering when she walked into the theater and when she apologized to Ernie. She talked as if she was not in the theater.

  • IT SOUNDS LIKE AN OPERA

  • What movie are you looking at?

  • The lady had such a cute voice! :)

  • That's the talent of Jerry Nelson.:)

  • @wattamack4 She's actually performed by RICHARD HUNT!

  • "It's a good movie, idn't it Bert?" Man, I thought Henson was from the north. IDN'T? Idn't he? hahahha how about ISN'T???????

  • Henson was born in Mississippi. Guess that's where that comes from.

  • Yeah, my Dad grew up in Florida and was raised by my Kentucky-born grandmother, but he has no southern accent at all...EXCEPT for an occasional "idn't it" or "doedn't it" that will sneak out now and then. ;}

  • Did bert say "Dope"?

  • Best solution is to smack the hat off her head, ghetto style. POW!

  • Here are 2 other choices.

    A.Sit next to the lady

B.ask her to put her hat on the floor!

  • Good suggestion. :)

  • Some other choices:

    A. Ask her to put the hat on her lap sideways

    B. Cut some feathers off the hat until you can see

    C. Switch seats with the lady

  • Here is another choice:

    D. Have Ernie move to sit down next to the lady which is in front of Bert.

  • cma6math, recently, many people have been suggesting this idea so it may not be interesting, sorry.

  • D. Rip the hat off the ladys head

  • good idea

  • i grew up in the mid to late 80's and early 90's...i SO remember this one LOL!

  • Will somebody please introduce Bert to some eye brow tweezers?

  • i watched sesame street when it first came on in 1969. my mom would put me down and she said i would not take my eyes off the screen until it was over. i remember this sketch.

  • Remember, no tall hats allowed in cinemas!

  • Actually I don't think they allow hats in the cinema at all.

  • A lot of people from the Loud Snacks sketch are in this one too. And, although we never see her, Olivia is there too, taking pictures, as Big Bird indicated in "The Best of Ernie and Bert".

  • BTW,have any of you guys spot Grover in this sketch?

  • yeah, behind a guy with glasses on, by his left shoulder

  • there was another Ernie and Bert at the movie sketch. It ended with Bert getting into a argument with some loudmouth who kept saying "I DON'T CARE!" too many times. I would appreciate it if someone would put that one up.

  • Jonnytbird has that one.

  • I know that one too. In fact, I saw the very end of that episode where the guy says, "I'll get you thrown out" and Bert says, "You throw ME out? Yeah will I like to see you try!" First time I see Bert as a tough guy lol

  • Oh, wow! I'd forgotten about this wonderful sketch! It's so funny and brought back so many memories. :-)

  • I always thought this was so funny when I was a kid.

  • Nice it's back again.

  • Bert doesen't have it easy with ernie, there's an empty seat by the lady he should of just sat by her!

  • Lol

  • Why couldn't the lady just put her hat on the floor instead of on the seat next to her?!

That way, both Bert and Ernie would've been able to see the movie.

  • That makes a lot of sense, disneynut06. Thank you for the suggestion.

  • That's true, the lady should've put her hat on the floor or laying sideways on her lap but mostly, she shouldn't of brought a tall hat in the first place where she should've known that her tall hat would block the view of the other people in the theater (not just Ernie and Bert). If she really wanted to wear a hat to the movie theater, she should've brought a small brimmed hat to wear.

  • A lot of people have put their own comments on Sesame Street YouTube skits about a certain spot on a skit on how they felt even if t's a comedy Sesame Street skit, a cartoon, or a skit with people and/or muppets.

  • Of course. willow100cm leave people alone.

  • Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate it.

  • You are very much welcomed.

  • Two thumbs way up for one of my old favorites!
