The last scene featuring Shepard taking a look into the infinite space, from a Normandy's window... and from the other side of the world, the gargantuan Reaper invasion finally making it's appearance approaching the Galaxy, is probably the most epic and malevolent 12 seconds i've ever seen or imagined. To my humble opinion Mass Effect has the best fantasy story of the last decade. It actually ties the original Star Wars universe. Wonder what the upcoming Mass Effect movie will be like.

Yeah!!! I have almost 6 perfect ME2 playthroughts on P3. The good thing is that I have six possibilities to survive on ME3 end. I hope, that there is option that Commander Shepard survive the events and end of ME3 and continue romance with Miranda (or Ashley). That would be the best end all around to me :)

Does anyone know for a fact who you'll be playing as in ME3 if Shepard dies in ME2? I don't think it will be Joker, that just seems kinda silly to me. My bet is on Kaidan Alenko/Ashley Williams since he's/she's become a spectre in ME3. My second guess would be James Vega, the new guy in ME3. Maybe one of these three will step in to fill Shepards shoes (although his shoes are to big for anyone else to wear) somehow. I really have no idea.

Also, possibly rest in peace, Shepard. You were the best.

You need to choose correctly when making decisions about who to lea the teams etc. as well. And buy the ship upgrades.

@redknight0905 like said earlier you need to choose who goes on these missions carefully. like for the leader mission Miranda, the Tech mission Tali, the Biotic mission Samara. all the rest is if you got the three ship upgrades, Armour, shields, and weapons because if you don't you lose someone for each you don't have. hope it helped.

Would have been a fun alternative if they let you import this game into ME3 and replace Shepard with someone else. Unfortunately that can't happen because they would have make major changes to the game and add an asston of script and dialogue just for this one option.

@Solidus1086 When this game first came out I read that the plan actually was to continue playing as someone else in ME3 if Shepard died in this mission but then shortly afterwards it was changed to being unable to import because of the writers basically having to make a whole new story in the scenario of Shepard's death

I wonder how they will compensate in a game where only Shepard + 1 squad member survives, which is the minimum requirement for importing to ME3.

Tali and Garrus will be permanent team members in ME3 and everyone else is supposed to make contributions of varying significance.

If they don't compensate for losing all those characters then that imported playthrough might suck ass.

Ive been trying to figure this out, but at the point of ME3 how old is Shepard? Because he died, and was rebuilt over a period of two years, does that mean in ME2 Shepard was the same age as the moment he died?

@porpus99 physically he would be the same age he was in ME1 by the time of me2 but he would be 2 years older. idk how old he is and the gap between me2 and me3(prob like 2 years again) so if he was like 30 in me1 physically he would be 30 in me2 but really he would be 32 if your still following. add another 2 years and he would be 34

They recovered shepards body and rebuilt him over the course of two years, my guess is threw cell memory, similar to how the Axolotl is able to regrow a limb, but on a bigger scale. Shepard is human, just brought back from the dead.

@porpus99 have a look at the scene where he is being rebuilt, a large metal device on his spine, when he is bad then the stuff used to rebuild his face bulges out and his eyes become lasers, only machinery does that, he appear to have lots of technology built into him and and android is part human and part machine so logic points to the title of android. Jacob himself says you have more bits and pieces which further enforces my theory, it was a mix of genetics and technology.

@DarkenedPsycho Jacobs exact words were "Your still you, just with a few extra bits a pieces". Also the term your looking for is Cyborg, a mix between artificial and organic components. Also, those machine bits were placed directly onto shepards remains, followed by injections, causing the cells to begin to revive. Those were most likely to help in the cell revival process. Shepard has all organic parts.

@DarkenedPsycho That was a stupid add on that Bioware threw in. They are explained as Scars that have not healed, sense Shepard wasn't complete when he woke up. They vanish if you do good, and get worse when you do evil. Its similar to what the creators of Fable did. As Shepard was not finished, the scars could be signs of his body breaking down. That is why you can purchase equipment to get ride of the scars in the game.

@porpus99 They say stress makes the implants bulge out, plus another good hint was when overlord took over shepard his eyes were bright green showing that overlord had influnced his eyes which were technology. That was why he had such an influence over Shepard.

@DarkenedPsycho Implants that are standard issue in all alliance soldiers can explain that. Also it infected the Omni Tool, and Shepards suit. Also, play the first mission where Shepard wakes up in the Cerberus facility for the first time. You will find terminal threw out the level explaining shepards remains and rebuilding. They used his remains and rebuilt him. You see that in the little movie before the level starts.

It doesn't seems very logical to me that you can die in ME2, and then play with Shepard in ME3, which by the way is a SEQUEL of the game...

@MyDan36 Yes but mass effect is based on choices, each shepard is different, you created your own story for shepard where he dies so that would be the ending for you, however if you lived then Mass effect 3 would be your ending. If you were to go on Mass Effect 3 then it would be a new shepard who is based on the default choices and lives.
