  • I think he confused himself to Noah

  • BUT... yes, it was Jesus whom the prophets preached about. Luke 24:27

  • Wow. Umm... OK. Jesus didn't invite people onto the ark... he was the ark. Secondly, Jesus was not about the social gospel or setting up food distributions for the poor - the biblical texts do not tell us of him setting anything like this up.

  • @ryanthecalvinist It says at the beginning of the movie that it isn't based upon gospel but is a fictional account. Quit bible thumpin.

  • i am not religious but i loved this movie..very moving acting..

  • for once christianity actually makes sense to me but i aint converting

  • @monkeybutler20 Then you'll not be surprised to find out the Evangelical Christians of the 80's tried their hardest to get this movie banned. Can't have a human Jesus preaching about giving to others in the age of trickle down economics.

  • this could be on a Berkeley street corner...

  • I LOVE this speech! It's so brutally honest yet spoken so powerfully my heart swells when I hear it. This is not the pomp and pageantry of Scripture, it's raw force distilled into words. More mesmerizing and convincing than anything you I read in the stilted prose of the Bible.

  • @AtenRa oooh, have you read the sermon on the mount? Its super awesome.

  • his teeth are so white :D

  • Shame on you for cutting out the end part...where his speech goes awry despite the best of intentions....

Which is also the best part, the most compelling thing about Christianity (and sadly also that part which most Christians hate): that Christ was mortal, he was man, not above temptation, not above fear and doubt.

The cut out the end of this, where his speech screws up and ends up sparking a hate filled riot...means you missed the fucking point of the movie. *sigh*

  • @Eldeecue just like the bible says; that he was tempted in everything like us! (in pauls letter to he hebrews).

the christians had allready then, started to believe that Christ was unable to be tempted.

He was tempted, but by denying himself he overcame the tempation, and this is the way to heaven. Like he said; to follow me you must deny yourself and everyday take up your cross (killing your own will).

Only one church in the entire world, teaches this, and you'll find them on brunstad.org

  • @Faffelaffen

The whole "Christ being tempted in the desert" and his begging God to take away this cup in Gethsemane just....seems to amnesiac-like, slip the memories of most CHristians, and as I said: it's sad. Those are the best part of whole god damn book.

No Christian has _ever_ been able to answer me whether Jesus and God are separate entities, even though it's clearly in the Bible that they ARE

As an atheist, I adore this movie...in that it makes me miss being Christian, just a little.

  • @Eldeecue The reason why they can't answer taht is because they think he was born without sin.

Jesus was born with sin in his flesh, but by denying himself and never sinning, the sin was driven out (it died). When the sin dies, the spirit, until he was like God, he could then not be tempted anymore.

We can follow in his footsteps by denying ourselves, and taking up our cross (letting our will die) and follow him, because thats what he did.

Paul never wrote about anything else in any letter!

  • @Faffelaffen Thank God you don't teach Theology .. or do u?

  • probably one of the best Jesus Christ movie..

only second to another Nikos Kazantzakis novel about Jesus made to a movie, "Celui qui doit mourir" "He who must die" by Jules Dassin.

a true pearl from 1957, hidden under the pile of slime of McCarthyism and blacklisting.

  • Probably one of the best actors to play Jesus Christ

  • more realistic than the 1960 versions of christ as it portrays the human and the divine of what is truly jesus christ! i love this movie and the scene where willem dafoe talks with god just before he is captured by the romans is deeply moving!

  • @dan75robot This guy just makes me cry, I love him.

  • @Lamporre

"Probably one of the best actors to play Jesus Christ"

    Probably?

    Who comes close?

Besides the back of the head of the guy in Ben Hur?

  • probably the worst actor for Jesus the Lord

  • @VisorTM On the contrary, he talks like it is, the other actors are too teathrical

  • @TranshumanCyborg I agree with you. Though I am not a christian, I may agree that something is in the Bible or in a movie with Jesus. My point is that some christians criticise those movies just because they don't follow the Bible when that was the point (ex: Jesus Christ Superstar). But even the movies they love don't follow the Bible by the letter. They follow the traditions and images we are used to see, like Jesus carrying the whole cross. Educated christians know that.

  • I dont know why they always pick blond guys for Jesus role ¬¬

  • Hallo Mass Casualty Incident:

    0:52

    bis "Your my brothers...."

    Grüße

    Chris

  • This is the worst movie ever! William Dafoe does NOT do a great job of portraying Jesus. He's like an evil stupid jesus. He doesnt even know what to say when supposedly preaching to everyone, he's like 'uh...um..' This is ridiculous. it is like a monty python version of the bible except worse. Seriously it is like a spoof of the story of the bible. Well that's all I have to say about that crap.

(Also, mel gibson is a sadistic asshole.)

  • @akkasoothy come on thats kinda the point in depecting jesus like that, btw you have to admit it was a good movie

  • @akkasoothy You obviously didn't understand the point of this movie bud.

  • @akkasoothy That's because in this movie Jesus is supposed to be human, like you and me, who say "uh ...um" while we're thinking what to say - it's not supposed to be your idea of Jesus, as a superman. He's scared to die and was tempted to live like a man with a wife and kids. That's why it was very polemic and many christians tried to destroy the movie - the book and the movie are on the Vatican forbidden index - though the director is a Catholic and the novel writer was a Orthodox Christian.

  • @pedroamaralcouto Jesus was scared to die anway from what's written in the bible, he prayed to god for strength and from whats not written in the bible maybe he would have liked to have a wife and kids, I know this. The movie did a very bad job of portraying Jesus in any light.

  • @akkasoothy The movie is not supposed to follow what is written in the Bible! Let's put it that way: try to find information about a book titled "L'Homme qui devint Dieu", by Gerald Messadié, and imagine that it would be adapted to a movie. Do you criticise it for not following the Bible? Do you say the same thing about "Jesus Christ Superstar"? Anyway, the Bible says Jesus cried and sweated blood in Getsemani before being crucified ("Jesus was scared to die").

  • @akkasoothy i hope that every word you typed isn't what you sincerely mean. and what does mel gibson have to do with anything? please don't tell me you're dumb enough to confuse the last temptation with the passion of the christ. tell me you aren't that stupid.

  • @azurenscens Jesus(AS) looked like typical semite..like hebrew,aramaic,arabic or souch races

he had nothing to do with europeans or blacks!

  • There was such controvesy about this movie i saw this movie at least 4 times and i thought it was brillant Willem Dafoe did a great job of portraying Jesus and the music was incredible.

  • awsome movie!

  • Thanks!

  • Amen
