Actually it is JC's car, the license plate was changed for Clarkson's video to spell out the car's name exactly 'SL55 AMG'!

This clip is from series 1 which started in 2002, and so couldn't possibly have a '55' registration, hence when the Stig drives it when Clarkson isn't expecting it, the car has it's actual '02' license plates on :)
