@91musicmaster I haven't come across anything either. One movie I can even slightly compare would be "Come and See", its a 1980s soviet cinema production. It takes place during WW2 when the Nazi SS invaded the USSR. This movie has similar effects to "apocalypse now" maybe not as good but getting close to it.
Apocalypse Now did have some Hendrix like vibes in it, it's the scene with the black soldier who blasted the Vietcong on the loudspeaker, the guitar was wailing!
Anyting that puts glamour into war is terrible can yu imagine bein 18 or a little older and bein dropped into that shit, lots of people i new never were the same again, some went on to killin themselves, i'm lucky i'm to old to fear the draft comin back and or another major conflict happenin the middle east is bad enough, Bush had to lie to get that goin at least people now have a choice in gettin involved, enuff said bad memories.
@91musicmaster There is no other movie than even comes close in comparison to Apocalypse Now. This movie is one of a kind and in a class all by itself.
The first time I saw this film I couldn't stop talking about it. It was just such a shocking experience for me at the time. I just kept rambling on about how desolate the place where Kurtz and his legion lived was and that crazy photographer and such...
the only good think of the Vietnam War era is the music , and iam saying this as a 16 year old teenager who had enough of this "house/R&B" shit . Seriously what happend that this became popular...
@91musicmaster Also, look for a movie called "Come and See". Its a powerful war movie filmed in Russia. Maybe one of the best filmed, most honest and graphic war films out there. Enjoy.
that overrated work of cumbersome descriptions by a talented writer with an inflated ego that had to create long, stretched out sentences with unnecessary symbolism and metaphors? Yup, that's Conrad.
@91musicmaster Platoon is a good Vietnam movie. But the best imho is The Deer Hunter. If you want that deep sort of reflection on war and all that, watch Terrence Malick's "The Thin Red Line".
I love Jimi. Everything was so different . I mean even Purple Haze. He had so many way s to play it. Just like all of his songs. He could play them differently everytime. Jimi was and is , GOD.
"Dad almost died of a heart attack in the middle of making Apocalypse Now, the biggest movie of his life. It doesn't make you want to jump into that business."
STILL- too many men- a paradise like vietnam- of course they have to rape /destroy it- cowards dont shoot their officers-cowards shoot women/children-isnt there a a way to depop violent men- without killing women/children?
@91musicmaster i cant really say any similar movies with that kind of atmosphere, but i know of a video game called "shell shock nam 67". old game on the PS2, it is of course about the vietnam war, but i gota say it had the exact eerie f'd up atmosphere incresingly proressing through the story line.
so unique, so true to itself, so powerfull, so meaningfull, if I had to compare rock and blues music of these years with today's music i wouldn't know weather if i should cry or laugh to death! so sad, i'm pissed and angry!

What gets me about soldiers dying in a war. Neither of them know if their 'enemies' that they're killing could've been their best friends. If only they gave themselves a chance to communicate with eachother. I'd personally reccomend music and weed..
@91musicmaster Yeah!! Depends on your soul. I was astonished by "The Doors" with Val Kilmer, Dear Hunter, The Piano ('93), Lost Highway, Casino, and some more... now I am watching documentary movies mostly combination of chillout music and amazing camera shoots. Go to Vimeo and dail Burning Man 2008 chose option most played, watch the first one and feed your soul...
@91musicmaster , I suggest you to watch "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" (Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes) , a German movie released in 1972, directed by Werner Herzog, starring the infamous Klaus Kinski (he plays a sociopath conquistador cruising the Amazon river, looking for the Eldorado).
@UncleHo19 Holy Moly! You know about that film. Ahahaha! I thought barley anybody knew about that. that shit scarred me forever. I can still remember the last line. "I am the wrath of god" that's all I'm gona say cuz I don't wana spoil it for everyone. But man that movie is very disturbing.
great job. thanks for uploading. i hadn't heard this version before and i have to say i really love it. i sometimes get a little sick of hearing perfect and polished studio tracks. this, to me, sounds a lot more 'free' and has put me in a good mood so thanks again.
my cousin was there and said that due to excessive violence, drugs, jungle heat whatever else-madness among the soldiers was rampant and mostly untreated
Jimi Hendrix created the (soul) of the electric rock guitar.... You do not just hear his playing... you feel those big fingers doing stuff that others have never done.. His playing was not a safe style of playing.. it was from the heart.. no one has ever to this day has dared to do the great stuff he did..except EVH mayby or Stevie Ray.. But it all got done in the guitar department in those later years..What can you do?? just keep your day job is what...
@ectomy1235 1. Cuz we don't know exactly who we are and where we came from...life is trippy. 2. Cuz our souls (or whatever you wanna call it) are taking a "trip" in our bodies. 3. Trippin on psychedelics makes life very trippy.
this version of purple haze is sick.. the only reason it might sound bad at some points is because he has the fuzz on his guitar almost to the max.. his singing is still sick, so is the solo. hendrix is unreal
this is the shitest version of piurple haze ive ever heard. no disrespect to jimi but wtf was his problem whilst playing this song. now dont say "omg but its jimi! ur a faggot!". this sounds like a retard tryin to play PH. sadest version of PH ever
Well ...that's your opinion.I like this version, even if I think that he DOES sound like a retard ; you can't blame him : everybody knows Jimi was a junkie.
He was probably stoned while playing ...
Yet , if you don't like this version , just check my self-made video response , in which I used an other version of PH.
Last but not least , if I had wanted to scold you , I would not have called you "a faggot'.I would have said "Donkey rooting bumsucker!"...No hard feelings , mate.
@username13245100 Parts he like to play well u notice well played.. rest is played coz ppls want to hear it. He was Bored to play this but was forced to do it over and over again, to please listeners. What u think he would think abt ur opinion of this :)
"It's a shame you didn't ...yadda yadda yadda ..." Well , I could anwer this: "It's a shame you waste your time posting inept comments and it's a shame I'm stupid enough to waste mine , typing this response ".Yet, you're not completely wrong and I'll try to do better next time.
geez, i was just giving constructive criticism. if you want to be negative about every comment that doesn't give you praise, then disable comments for the video. lighten up. i love the song and i really appreciate the video, but you don't need to make a big deal about it :)
Sorry comrade , I did'nt mean to sound aggressive.English is not my first language , so I may have misunderstood your comment. Moreover , I'm a misanthrope , always on the defensive: there are so many lazy morons out there , who enjoy making comments about things they wouldn't be able to achieve.
Well , thanks for your patience.I do appreciate constructive criticism.
WELL MABY TO YOU BUT NOT TO ME...it dosen't realy show the horors of nam but it does show the insanity...it's more about the characters instead of the war...there are many great vietnam movies and this one is not one of it (IF YOU ASK ME)...
not in the way that's portrayed in the movie...trust me...I know quite a few PTSD guys and none of them are that crazy...this is something like evil genius from a cartoon crazy...the real insanity now that's scary compared to this movie...
its my fav movie and one of my fav musicians but honestly i dont think they fit too well. i think this movie is deeper than just highly skilled rock n roll, and thats why he chose The Doors with it! i think some Pink Floyd would have fit in really well though too.
Machine Gun probably would have fit this movie, especially the parts where he does the intense solos and dive bombs of feedback. Especially on the part with Roach, where they were trying to take out one guy, and Roach uses a grenade launcher. They soldiers in the trench were listining to the radio, and there Coppola should have played machine gun..anyways that's just my thought
Funny they didn't put the scene with purple haze...

it's a shame you didn't put much emphasis on the "purple haze" reference in the movie

War is insanity

not in the way that's portrayed in the movie...trust me...I know quite a few PTSD guys and none of them are that crazy...this is something like evil genius from a cartoon crazy...the real insanity now that's scary compared to this movie...

its my fav movie and one of my fav musicians but honestly i dont think they fit too well. i think this movie is deeper than just highly skilled rock n roll, and thats why he chose The Doors with it! i think some Pink Floyd would have fit in really well though too.
