  • Magical

  • I could listen to the drums and bass for like 10 minutes on their own.. and then bring in MacCabe for another 10 minutes.. and then start the song.. it's THAT GOOD!

  • I've just realised Jones' bass sounds a lot like Whole Lotta Love by Led Zep, my respect for him has just dramatically increased.

  • life is an ocean, it's too much emotion...

  • You can't explain how Richard went from this to..RPA and The United Nations of Sound.

  • So good it's scary!

  • Simon Jones is the real deal!

  • Nick McCabe...the most underated guitarist of the 90's....the verve would not have been half they band they were without him...and .of course, Ashcroft does the rest..

  • There should have been a Nick Cam during this filming, i bet the hairs on the back of his neck were stood up when he did this....and not even a pedal board shot throughout the whole song :-(

  • This takes me back to the 70's music and I love it.

  • <3

  • McCabe arrasa, perfeito cara. Viagem total !

  • Amo Amo Amo Amo Amo Amo Amo Até morrer.

    Music Saves +

  • thegoodteacher(dot)com

  • Free-flowing jazz!

  • my god i just love this "thing"......it's so deep, mental, true psychedelic.

  • The Verve > Oasis

  • i like so much the bass... i love that rhythm

  • Some of McCabe sounds like Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Gilmour all in his style! AMAZING! I love his sound on sound stuff

  • McCabe was making sounds 20yrs ago that I still can't make today. Fucking legend.

  • what bass has jones got?

  • @Josh44Tube fender jazz

  • Legendary! One of The Verve's best songs. Great performance. McCabe just craps on the likes of Gallagher etc. Up there with John Squire for me! Wish they were still around.

  • gran puta que buen guitarristas excelente! como quiero conocer a alguien que toque asi para poder hacer un grupo de rock!

  • These guys are the real deal

  • the guitar and lyric's are immensely inspirational !

  • I don't understand why The Verve is considered a "one-hit-wonder" here in the U.S. I have all of their albums...I don't think they have ever put out a song I don't like! . I"m not a fan of United Nations of Sound.

  • @66fastback99cobra I feel the same. The only song of theirs you ever hear in Australia is Bitter Sweet Symphony. I only stumbled on them by hearing them on the movie "Sliver" sound track back years ago and then went out and bought everything i could find, most had to be imported.

  • The Verve - Life's Not A Rehearsal Here on You tube just copy and paste and you will get to listen to a McCabe remix Sort of the extended version everyone wishes that this song was . And that Bass riff is just driving it all home . This song is awesome in any version . If you never heard the remix check it out !

  • I miss the Verve, so much...

  • This is absolutely stunning. Why didn't the Verve get the attention they deserve in the US? There is unbelieveable intelligence, complexity, and skill in this band. Maybe it takes a more sophisticated musical appreciation taste to understand how great this performance is. Twitter, Facebook, blog them, or whatever .... this is head and shoulders above the music we are spoon feed by the music industry. This is one american who repents for not giving the Verve they attention they deserve.

  • Remember watching this at the time. Stunning. Check out The Wild Eyes, vintage Verve mixed with classic garage rock: youtube.com/watch?v=V_LSrCvXXWM

  • McCabe. thats all.

  • @Alwaystuned. Ashcroft is singing about yet, another ocean. [i always have to rave about McCabe's guitar work in this performance. admire his sensibilities.]

  • I will take this song to my grave.... the words the sounds

  • 16 years old and fresher than 99% of whats made today. McCabe toys with that guitar in very special ways.

  • 3:16 Yeah!!!

  • Without wanting to sound cheesy - you can actual feel the ocean lapping over you if you shut your eyes and listen to this through headphones.

  • Every verve video should be filmed like this. Put the spotlight on Nick once in awhile! And to be fair to Richard, he came up with some good lyrics for this one

  • daaaaaaaaaaaamn!! why did Richard have to screw everything up? now his ex band mates hate him even more... damn Richard.. that's what happens when you get greedy man

  • My favourite song of all time and always will be! Best version ever! I will be listening to this over and over til I'm old and grey :D. (God help the other people in the old peoples home when I'm blasting this out! ha ha ha!) xxx

  • Perfect in every way, I love them thanks for posting

  • This is the height of the verve.everyone at there best

  • @Alwaystuned. have a great weekend.

  • The Verve is my favorite band ever. No band seems to inject such passion and emotion into their music.

  • All members of the Verve at the height of their powers!

  • how come this is so fuckin brilliant and i fuckin love the boys forever.

  • Music for my funeral.

  • This is my favorite version of this evocative song that I have come across. Nick MaCable does some amazing underwater sounding effects!

  • Poor Simon Tong. How do you compete with that?? I guess you play tamborine instead.

  • @subrosaeffect1 yea for real lol. no disrespect but mccabe basically puts every guitarist to shame.

  • @vannyfresh And he does it with single note melodies and 1 or 2 chord changes in most songs!

  • At that moment they were the coolest and best band on the planet.

  • holy shit !!!! i wish there was a dvd with live presentations.

  • After hearing this I can't listen to the album version anymore. This live version is breathtaking - faster tempo, forceful and so full of soul.

  • McCabes guitar and Ashcrofts vocals are awesome. Salisburys and Jones though are underated. They drive the band.

  • @qwertyuiopforkspoon Verve's rhythm section was the blood & skeleton of this very nearly perfect band.

  • I recorded this back in the 90's and have watched it in excess of 500 times. Easily. I've probably watched it on YouTube 30 times in the last month lol.

An amazing performance. Listen to the applaud they get after, fantastic.

The only guitarist I've heard make love to a guitar like that is Hendrix :-)

  • what can you say shithot what a band

  • It's a testament to A Northern Soul's greatness that they could save one like this for position eleven on the album.

  • ...."I was buying some feelings from a vending machine....."

    Excellent performance!

  • "Imagine the future..I woke up with a scream."

  • Nick's playing thru Fender amps , very rare

  • This song made me pick up a guitar 13 years ago, McCabe >>> all

  • This is a good one to listen to when you're stoned. Love the drum riff as well. Fucking amazing tune.

  • REAL FUCKING MELLOW.....JUST SINK BACK IN THAT SEAT OF YOURS, PISSED OR SOBER IT SOUNDS SHIT HOT!

  • i can't do anything with myself, i just love richard. and all ververs. and this video is perfect. PERFECT

  • If I could choose to play like any number of really good guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul Gilbert, Prince or Hendrix, I would choose to play like Nick. I'm not saying he's better or worse, just that he's a wonderful communicator with the guitar.

  • intense, sublime

  • awesome....

  • After splitting up in 95' this was the chance to show to the nation how good a band they were, the critics were unsure and after Bittersweet symphony they had to perform to get the credit they deserve, and they did just that in spectacular fashion. This performance is just unbelievable, The Verve at their best. Everyone clicks and Ashcroft, when McCabes solo kicks in gets lost in it all.

    An amazing performance.

  • Ahhhh, Heaven! Hazy, crazy, floaty feeling! Perfection in every way! Love this soooooo much! Thanks for uploading, highlight of my night, every night I play it! :D xxx

  • Brilliant!

  • Best version of this song by far!

  • @igwsha1 page and plants burning up on jools holland was much better than their album version too, Jools must bring out the best in them lol

  • This is music: This is The Verve

  • Bass is bad ass on this one! I love this groove! Love the band so much!

  • epic guitar, indeed, sends me into that vast ocean, bringing me down, yet mystified, and in awe of McCabe

  • i bloody love this

  • Epic. Best The Verve performance. Beats out Glastonbury '08 imo.

  • I don't think i've seen anyone hit it so hard on the nail!! - The best live performance ever - True genius!!

  • hjjd

  • THIS and There Stuff earliest and NOW. everything ROCKS. And the SOLO stuff, NEW YORK,NEW YORK. damn was written before 9/11 . Thats even MORE SPECIAL !!!! The Verve . Please come to Minneapolis,MN or MID~WEST USA

  • Perfection!!!!!!!! Nuff said. :D x

  • to this day, no other band even close to this. untouchable.

  • piece of fuckin modern art ,love this performance the fuckin best

  • McCabe. Fucking genius.

  • Guitar wizardy, oh man! Mc Cabe forever!

    Thanks Richard you`re a shaman

  • WOW LOVE THIS ..GREAT SONG..

  • swooooooooooooooooooooooooooon

i am floating high above the world

  • Always & for ever SO COOOOOLL & DEEPLY SENSUAL as many many songs of that great great old friends's band (hope they'll succed in going beyond their recent misunderstood & split ....)

  • unreal

  • thank god someone had the good sense to kill that annoying cunt's voice right at the start!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And 10,000 of those views are me! Ha ha. :D x

  • it has been said before but it makes me very sad that this magic performance only has 53,600 views.

    Immense.

  • Man, it's sad to think these guys are no longer together.

  • Imagine the future...I woke up with a scream :)

  • i love mcabe's guitar playing and ashcrofts singing is just amazing, love it when he says yeah yeah yeah at the end eh the song

  • guitar here is amazing

  • everything Nick McCabe does is epic.

  • yes. thank God for Nick McCabe.

  • amazing guitar part...

  • I tell you why this sounds so good........... Because it sounds like what music used to be like many moons ago!

  • Many moons ago ???

    Maybe...

  • you got that right ..the verve at their best as always

  • Really like this song !!! Love the lyrics: "Life is an ocean, too much commotion, too much emotion, dragging me down..." Ready for the game Take a line of fickle flame... There's something inside of me Crying out for something else... Not enough emotion to satisfy me... Hold my hand and we'll walk down Dry those eyes and we'll walk down... Also like very much PETER at drumms, SIMON and NICK on guitars *** Thanks boys for this cool moment ***
  • Yeah, i do like this song, lyrics are so thrue :" Life's an ocean, too much commotion, too much emotion..."

Like the way RICH' sings, eyes closed, must feel much more the intensity of the moment ***

LOVE PETER at drumms, SIMON and his guitar ***

Like the way RICH sits at 4:20, seems so easy for him..

THANKS MEN, u're GREAT together ***

  • Wow!

  • There are a lot of good performances on Later but this seems to transcend beyond just a band playing music.

    Know what I mean?

  • too right, no band makes me feel music like the verve - fucking mint. i hope they don't split...

  • they did...again :(

  • Wow. So much weight man; what a band. what a vibe.

  • Priceless!! perfection!!!

  • Imagine the future..I woke up with a scream..

  • i was buyin some feelins from a vending machine!!!!!

  • Say that I will see

    Something more than I have

    There's something inside of me

    Crying out for something else..

  • Vad tycker du brorsan?

  • simply the best music u can ask for live. such great chemistry & respect for the artform

  • Nick looks like Gambit from X-men in this.

  • Masterpiece. McCabe = WIZARD.

  • Such invention by McCabe- that song could 20 mins long- easy. Wish it was.

  • the best of the best, live recording ! ashcroft najlepszy, bog bogow !!

  • Why is McCabe always wearing a jacket? Be it winter, be it summer... :)))

    Amazing tune.

  • Si Jones is under rated man, their all legends, but those bass lines carry the tunes man

  • I always felt like the bass line made you feel the depth of the ocean and the guitar sounded like whales or other sea life. That's just me. I love this song, though!

  • And if someone hears my scream

Put it in a letter to me..

  • Nick McCabe, what a legend, Tough call between McCabe and John Squire for best british guitarist of the last 20 years...

  • Best performance of this song I've seen.

  • McCabe on fucking fire.

  • might sound corny but those riffs put me back in the 90's better days, i know u r supposed to look ahead not backwards but i cant help myself when i hear him play! nick is an alien out of this world

  • 4:12

  • Awesome riffs..

  • This is THE shit!> 4.39 secs onward...that awesome guitar flurry of feedback and absolutely killer bass jammin'..

    Stunning,

  • Yeaaah, AWESOME PSYCHEDELIA ! ;-)

  • Imagine the future...I woke up with a scream..

  • I was buying some X from a vending machine.

  • Say that I will see

    Something more than I have

    There's something inside of me

    Crying out for something else.

  • McCabe is just otherworldy....so brilliant! Those raw, organic riffs transcend words.

  • This made me pick up a guitar all those years ago, now it makes me want to put it down cos I ain't ever going to get near it in a million years, Nick is the second coming! That's why they've split up so many times, Richard clearly wants to be Jesus and it's actually Nick that is...

  • hahahaha

  • well said i know 100% what you mean, imagine mccabe doing some solo stuff, don't think the world's ready for that one!

  • Mate,I dream of a McCabe solo work someday!

  • I dont think McCabe has the determination to do some solo stuff.I think he needs the rhythm section of The Verve to do this, otherwise some of his sounds can sound like soup. Dont get me wrong tho, he is my favourite guitarist along with Dave Gilmour. His style is very unique and quite hypnotic/psychadelic and probably very underated when everyone talks of 90s bands they think of john squire, johnny greenwood and other bores

  • Totally agree with you mate!I mean,he's a top guitar player(in my opinion the best of his generation)but he also has an incredible rhythm section to build these magnificent sounds.....Fucking top,Verve rule.....

  • his myspace page has some solo stuff

  • Comment removed

  • haha nick is also why i want to be a musician. i aint ever gonna be like the man but who says i cant aspire to? who am i kidding NICK IS A GOD!!!

  • Very good live performers!

  • The verves best song I fucking love Nick mc cabes guitar style he creates blues soundscapes beautiful stuff!!

  • nunca habia visto a locos tocando tan re abrigados

  • I remember watching this way back when it was first aired. Sounds as good today as it did back then.

  • Simon Jones and Nick Mc Cabe are genius.

  • down by the river

  • hendrix would join the verve !!!so much blues-soul-licks .

  • this is something else, glad the verve got back together. listen to the guitar skills compament the vocals. spot on. cant beat live!!! studio aint got nothing on this

  • Great Verve tune!
