Of course this is John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival, but released under the name "Blue Ridge Rangers" in 1972 !

John played all instruments himself, took him a few years to learn this.

A pirogue is a kind of canoë made from a "one piece of tree" .. very long and narrow ( longue et étroite ).... une chaloupe plate ..... To Pole is to use a long stick to make it advance on the water ..... la faire avancer avec une perche.

@TheSwampRock A pirogue is a canoe-like flat bottomed boat. "Poling" is one of the methods of propulsion....a pole is used to push the pirogue through the shallow waters of the swamp.

I believe the story is that after CCR disbanded, Fogerty contractually owed Fantasy (the label he now despised) one more album, so he put out an offering of nothing but covers. The original album cover didn't even have his name on it. I may have some of my details incorrect, but I am certain that this is not in fact CCR.
