@geffabr You won't it won't allow them to install the updates. Yes, you get free wireless tethering if rooted

@qbking77 I could unroot my phone to get the updates (even if I lose the tethering, it wouldn't be a problem if I lose, but it would be a problem if I couldn't update the phone).

I rooted my phone and installed clockwork using this method which worked fine for sometime now.unfortunately i think some how lost the clockwork mod.when i try to manually boot into recovery it gives me a message that it is not available.. did i remove it and if so will i be able to get it back. my phone is still unlocked just wont let me enter recovery.

hey qbking77..i am new to sprint and nexus s 4g..i got it rooted, got the matrix kernal, and got cm7 running on it. i am curious about the mobile hotspot. i turned it on just to see if it works, and it does. got my laptop to connect and work. so just to confirm, i will not be charged for this correct? its all free? once again im new to sprint and nexus...thanks!

@eepmatt Yes your phone will not see it. You will need to go back to stock to get it, or just wait for a flashable zip through CWM since you will have clockwork to update.

just curious about the free hotspot claim in the description, is it an app that installs during the root like the wireless hotspot app (which i didnt see when you went in the app drawer) or is it free just as a result of tethering on a rooted phone? im asking because i used this root method using your video but only had it for a few minutes before flashing BuglessPete's rooted, deodexed stock rom after getting clockwork in there

@StrokedGT Yes I believe it was free on 2.3.4, but 2.3.5 broke it. Then this method makes it so native hotspot works by rooting.

@qbking77 ok, saw what you mean, I was able to turn on hotspot so thought i had it, but realized i couldnt use the internet on my tablet when it was connected to the phone. went back to bugless petes thread on xda where i found my deodexed rom and saw he had a flashable update to fix the tethering, its all good now

@ShadowE42 simpler yes, but you require an exploit. the nexus doesnt. ergo the one click i made works on ALL versions of android for it. you want proof on that, install a non rooted gingerbread rom, then try to root it. process will be teh same for yall except instead of fastboot youll use odin.
