@MarieAnneElla I agree. Most music of her time is about the voice. The voice IS the music. Unlike today's music. Now it's all about beat and easy-to-remember tune for it sells better if you can sing-bloody-along. >.< If you enjoy old music, try looking up the 'Ink Spots', they are a ninety thirty three a capella group.
The great, immortal Ella Fitzgerald's title was "The First Lady of Song". My grandmother and family (myself included) absolutely adored this gorgeous, powerful woman (no scandal involved at all)! R.I. P. Ella - You are one of God's singing Angels!
Oh my god! I feel so stupid: I thought this song was Bjorks... Sorry people! Goosebumps ALL over: I've never seen her this humble and I've never heard a sweeter voice!
Me being 16 years old and listening to her songs seems to spark up laughter between my friends, but I dont know what I would do if I'd have never heard her voice
No one can touch her on this song. Just stunning...as a singer of jazz-pop, I think Ella and Billie set the bar high and we've been striving to get within it's general territory ever since
I'm 29. If only I had the chance to experience the Golden Age of music. I'm grateful to YouTube and those who post these timeless clips. Ella embodies elegance and grace. What a divine voice!
Wow 50 years ago! Seems like yesterday. Thats just about the time the polio vaccine came out. I remember lining up in the school cafeteria with everyone else to get our shots. Thank you Ella.
Hey, Bandrunner- Born in 57 myself, and it took all the discipline a kid could muster not to pick at that nasty scab- Remember? Anyway, Ella was Heaven on Earth- well, she's my idea of "heaven".
I remember sugar cubes instead of shots! Lucky me, to escape shots and be a kid when Ella was alive and in her prime. I'm glad so many young people are digging Miss Ella, too.
Come on now. what kind of email address is some old bag? My dilemma these days is that I listen to Ella and say she's the best. Then I put on Sarah and say no I think she's better, and so it goes. It is incredible that they both came up just about the same time.
Well, someoldbag made me laugh when I thought of it! I earned it: born in '48. No dilemma for me, I think Miss Ella's the best. Sassy's real good, too, no question about it, but for me, Ella could sing the phone book and I'd beg for more.
Thank you March of Dimes for giving us the opportunity to see the "first lady of song" sing this beautiful ballad. It is one of my favorite songs from the titled album "Like Someone in Love"
wow...i cant beleive she wore an afro in the 50's! she musta been the first one to do that. most people back then had that stiff overly coiffed lookin hair. she was quite the trend setter!!!
My dear, that isn't an afro. Her hair is simply cut very close. It was trendy among African-American women of the time if you'll appreciate photos from the 50's :)
Ella, Billy (Holiday) and Sarah (Vaughan). The greatest Jazz vocal trio.

The natural delivery, the sincerity, the perfect diction, intonation. What a supreme artist. And she seems so humble, like it's so easy for her.

I'm 15, and i know exactly how you feel :) If they can't accept what music you listen to, they're not your friends.
inapix 2 years ago 4
@superdude2thersq I'd rather have this music than friend who can't accept a simple fact of my musical preferences differing from theirs... >.>

She had one of the singularly most beautiful contraltos of the 20th century, if not the most beautiful in popular music. So clear and sweet.
