I used to have doll issues when I was a kid. Bad dreams about them walking around my house and stuff like that. I'm guessing any one of these dolls would have had the same effect on me back then. There were a couple of times I was expecting on of the pics to move it's eyes. LOL
@comanchehotspot Oh please don't generalize different art with a label like that, dark subject matter may not be for everyone but it has artists like Amano and Yoshida who have a power to their work as morbid as it may be to you,
for an Western perspective take the work of Gorey, Beardsley and Dame Darcey and Mark Ryden and others,
it can be dark but still compelling and beautiful in its own way.
i love brian eno but this song really creeps me out, then you put images of horrific looking dolls and you have yourself a nightmare, right there. cool post though
Thank god that there has been a majoy improvement in japanese BJDs these days...or else my Yuki wouldn't be.. :(

We saw many of these kinds of dolls in Shinjuku in Tokyo. They are well done and inventive but I will stick to the old fashion "sakura" ningyo.

Alcune sembrano morte.

They resemble a little bit Hans Bellmer's dolls. Surrealism has had some influence in Japan. There was also a group there.
