Check out never summer boards. the heist and decent are amazing for pumping because of the camber and the carbon fiber flex that never loses shape. they are also great freeride boards
@kevanlukk - You really don't need to swing like that most the time. Most of these guys are slalom skaters, and we were trying to pump up to max speed in a really short straight run -- that's when throwing your arms helps accelerate. Also, part of our intention was to show different ways to pump. Out on the open road I usually just push up to about 10mph++ then keep the upper body really quiet and maintain the speed, moving the core more than the arms. Keep at it!
ok, so basically what I understood is that pumping is like being on a swing,to increase the speed you push your legs forward,at least thats what someone was trying to explain on another video.I just cant imagine how to do it on a longboard.
I live in italy and the streets are paved reallyy badly and its hard to catch up on speed. Thanks for the help.
lol.. sector nine are like metallica.. you go to the store and they're on the shelf.. its easy to get a hold of but there's better shit around if you dig deep ;-)
@michaelguidry1993 actually i think it's awesome. I have a trick board, and found that what i really wanted to do was get farther. the custom 44 is really good for gliding, but...i'm just wondering how on earth to pump on it. maybe I need to tighten the rear truck?
@tybo326 Original are marketing pro although they're board instantly make you able to 180 whenever you want, ther stock is cheap: Cracking board, broking truck cam.. I paid my fishy longboard 120$ (80$ just for the Stimulis :) and yet it lasted a year more than my friend's apex 37 both board and truck's cam. Think I'm hating? I challenge anyone riding a original proudly to 180 with my longboard on flat ground, just saying with a minimun balance can 180 on a skateboard,
@ThisIsParadoxal Don't you think making the trick easier to accomplish on the original is a good thing? That means their board is more developed. Although I really haven't tried t he apex, but I'd like to point out that when I say 'modern' I don't mean it's all around better, maybe easier to trick on, but might not last as long.
Original boards arent the best either. My apex 37 actually fell apart after a couple of months. While my s9 jbay is still doing very well. Dont get caught in the original hype
@bobbie001 Before I bash you on that comment, I really would like to know what you were doing with the longboard. In all honesty, even though original says it can downhill, it's a terrible ride.
@RythmicFlow Yeah... original hate is just as bad as original hype. They're just boards. People who actually "downhill" (true DH) actually know what kind of boards to get, and Original doesn't make DH racing boards. But that doesn't mean the Apex can't be taken "down a hill"... people just need to set up their trucks for whatever speeds they're comfortable with. One absolute truth...Noobs should not take any board with original trucks on it down a steep hill!
does the size of the wheels and trucks affect how good you can pump? I have 62mm on 150mm trucks. I plan on getting 200mm trucks w/ 76mm wheels. Will this improve or hurt my pump ability. Im upgrading my setup b/c on my board, its such a pain in the ass to pump and i heard that if i go bigger, it should be easier, is this true?
i honestly think that its a matter of how much grip your wheels have that determine pumping ability. The more grip, the more you can push them to propel yourself when weighting into a turn.
More grip is a result of lower durometer wheels. The thing you have to keep in mind is that because the lower the durometer the softer the urethane- much more of your energy is lost the softer you go. Thats why its preferable to find a happy medium, and usually a harder wheel in the front. Higher duro = higher roll speed / depending on pavement quality.
it is a pain, but recall that smaller wheels are slower. it will require more energy but u'll be going faster. you only need about 150-180 mm trucks for 76mm 200mm sounds a little more tough
hurt... i think.. get some 70mm wheels :) because 76mm.. well it's noce to ride, but you won't keep the speed as good when pumping :/ I use 180mm trucks btw :D
I have a Landyachtz The wedge flex Super Deluxe Complete. Maybe not ideal for pumping but, can you do it? I'm new to longboarding and this looks awesome! I love your site too!
I have a custom surfboard style flat 50" deck with a s9 truck setup, double wedged to create more distance between wheels and board to avoid wheel bite, whats the best setup without getting new trucks? im getting a nice used 30" s9 deck, should i just switch to that when i refinish it?
I have an S9 as well, but it is a luke nosewalker. Can this boat even be pumped? if so, any suggestions for setups? also, I am considering buying a Landyachtz Urban Assault. Can this board pump either? Thanx, I am new to longboarding in general, and trying to learn all I can.
i've owned a nosewalker- pumpable if you ride out on the nose more, a little too stiff and long WB for learning though. the LY UA is more of a dropped pusher than a pumper, i prefer topmounts for pump. check out the pavedwave 'gear' page for some pump setup ideas.
S9's are fine, just loosen the front truck and tighten the rear truck and do it! move on to flexier setups later once you figure out how to get your basic groove on.
I have a Never Summer Swift Longboard which is 46" long. I just got it less than a week ago. I like it soo much and I will be using it for cruising and stuff. But I want a board that I can pump in so I am buying the Dervish with a great setup as my second board. I want to learn how to pump on that board, do you guys have any tips?
I think the NS Swift is the better pumper of the two, I'd drill an extra WB at 29.5" on it. The Dervish is great for carving, but for pumping a topmount that drives more energy directly into the trucks is better IMO.
i dont really like original but i like landyacht alot

Adam123112 2 years ago
Just stray away from drop through mounted boards for pumping. Otherwise a bit of flex goes a long way.

i've always thought the opposite of that.. larger trucks and wheels are harder to move back and forth..i prefer to downhill on 76mm's

I have a vanguard F4 it pumps alright but want a more serious pumper. I am thinking of a Roe Mermaid how would that compare with a Vanny?

the mermaid's designed for pumping. wider nose, wider in the rear foot area. far better snap in the flex.
