I dont get why cummins has both 3 cyl and 6 cyl high idle on their trucks. whats the diff between them and is one optional and the other standard? plz reply.

because 3 cyl creates a much greater load on the engine causing it to warm up faster

no its the always the same three because if it alternates cylinders, there would be no point in 3 cyl high-idle.

Yes it alternates the 3 fired cyl so that it evenly heats the block

id check your intake air heater, an 2001 should startup perfectly down to zero

She has no problem starting even as low as -30F not plugged in. The 3-cylinder high idle lets there be heat in the cab after 10 mins of idling in the yard.

It's not a SMARTY feature. Cummins developed this software. Dodge doesn't enable it form the factory. The SMARTY does (-:
