I would have NEVER, VERY guessed this was Waylon...without the trademark beard, bushy mane, and cowboy attire, it's a completely different picture. But, as soon as he opens his mouth...well, NO ONE else sounds like Waylon!
@MsStaciejm So true! Waylon has such a mature and distinctive face. His handsomeness here is so different from his studly "outlaw" period. He still remains one of the most beautiful men in music for me.
My guess is that this is towards the end of his compliance with the old pre-packaged way Nashville did business. You can see he hates the lip syncing and not having his band there.
I think this video captures the birth pangs of the Outlaw movement.
I believe the acoustic was a Martin. Waylon often used an acoustic in his early days.
Anyway, what kind of idiots exist nowadays who actually think bleach-blonde "stars" are actually singing while doing stage choreography? Ever try singing while jogging?
Lip-syncing is far more common now than then, despite the fact that it was extremely difficult to mic, balance and EQ a live band way back then and yield any kind of quality.
Did they really think they were fooling the audience in those days with the record spinning behind them and Waylon's telecaster in the background while he picked it on a Gibson acoustic?
Nonetheless it is great to see him in his younger days. The second hit off "Only the Greatest" behind the immortal "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line." Love it! Thanks!
great song. Why can't they play this great today

To my ear, it sounds like his voice is coming through live, although he's air-strumming to the backing track.

This definetly shows why Waylon had enough of nashville, you can almost see it in his eyes. He made the right move, great singing in this one though!
