Its hypocrital to complain about the shallowness and frivolity of clothes that are handmade and high-end and cost a lot. No one is suprised that beautiful art costs more than the canvas and paint it uses and this is art you can wear. What is life without art and beauty? Couture is turning yourself into a walking work of art.

Wow! As an diverse artist, l never heard high fashion explained this way!

What l liked about this video (& l keep missing the beginning of it) is to see how they (the govt., the aristocrat, or whoever started this trend) call the various design companies "Fashion Houses" and how the fancy urban gay scene call their various groups Houses (like the House of Ninja, House of Revlon, House of Latex, etc). And of course, some of the best make up artists & designers are gays.

@TheFashionophile I think people are thrown off because it's centered around the self. To many, fashion is narcissistic. Also, I find people to be bias toward clothing because they see others blindly following trends and don't want to be a "sheep", or they view those with the means to buy such expensive pieces as pretentious and "better" than them when that's not always the case. I completely agree that couture is art. They're just ignorant about the world of fashion. :)
