One problem, Sat takers need to be able to derive that same information - slope and y intercept, from just looking at the first part or at most do one step to figure it out quickly.

You need to have at least a seventh grade education to do this. Otherwise it will make no sense. Get a math book with introduction to Algebra to understand this.

If you were to solve that problem in 3 minutes you would never be able to complete the SATs in time. But it is a nice explanation.

Or find two points by assigning values to x or y. e.g.:

If x=0 => (2*0)+(3*y)=6 => y=2 ==> (0;2)

If y=0 => (2*x)+(3*0)=6 => x=3 ==> (3;0)

Draw the line that passes through these 2 points.

You can assign any value to x or y in order to find the corresponding value of the other variable but usually 0 is easiest (you obtain the y intercept and x intercept).

This way you don't have to lose time transforming the equation and the equation is easy enough that you can even do it mentally.
