@TrueAltaic if naul was just born in america he would be a bigger star than legaci anyday... his tone is filled with power and rings with brightness while being stable. you can just see from the end of the road covers of brown eyed soul and legaci. Naul just runs and uses melisma in the high notes like its nothing. the members in legaci are great, but it sounds much more thinner and weaker compared to naul's.
no disrespect to legaci, but naul overall just out classes everyone in that group.
@eddyboiii21 So if Naul was born in America he would be a bigger star? Whats your evidence to prove this? How many American born korean singers are on the scene with any respectable fame? ZERO. How many korean acts tried to make it to america and failed? The wondergirls were reduced to advertising rice cookers in America. @eddyboiii21 Have you heard of Legaci's rendition of Whatcha Say? Legaci can also use melisma in the high notes like it was nothing. Furthermore, have you been to a brown eyed soul concert? he's just loud and powerful in general.. where are you getting increased mic volume from;; his tone is packed and FULL... the high notes in legaci are rather thin and sorta fragile sounding.
@TrueAltaic also, im sure brian mcknight would dominate almost 99% of all singers. korean or american, or of whatever race... but i'd pick naul over legaci to represent asian singers anyday.

@TrueAltaic lol go listen to the Sad Cafe remake by naul then tell me that his runs aren't special. and legaci couldnt get close to BoyzIIMen in 50 years...
@eddyboiii21 I've heard it before and its nothing special. Charice could also out run Naul. There's also a lot of youtube comments in the Legaci vids indicating that yes Legaci is definitely within striking distance of Boys 2 Men, something that I couldn't say for Brown Eyed Soul. Even if I was an ultra nationalist hardliner, I wouldn't be able to say that Brown Eyed Soul was even half of Boys II Men in ability; atleast not with a straight face. Sorry bro, Legaci > Naul & Brown Eyed Soul.
@TrueAltaic Really? i mean really? Nothing special? You saying Legaci is so speacial and Naul is nothing special at all? And you use youtube comments as a measurement towards Legaci's comparison to Boys 2 Men? Legaci and Browneyed Soul are very different. One is an accomplished group born and bred in korea with a renowned vocal who represented Korea for the world cup in 2002. While the other is a famous youtube sensation who sing in an environment at a different level to browneyed soul.
@TrueAltaic BES are singing in front of thousands of fans and probably after singing few of their fantastic songs. While Legaci is singing in front of a camera or casually outdoors without any real pressure on them. While that does not make BES better than Legaci, it is certainly a factor to consider. And by the way BES was offered to do an album with R.Kelly and Boys 2 Men few years ago, not bad for a group who are "nothing special"
impressed, very impressed. i can see why kroeans regard them as one of the best of the best, especially Naul. his voice! so big, so clear, so....AMAZING! goosebumps all over!
@cerberusdest what makes you say that asians are OBVIOUSLY at the bottom of the vocal ability ladder?
Naul has everything that you mention; control, depth, tone and range, and is amazing at them which makes him one of the best singers of all time.
I know its all just an opinion, but i'm really having trouble understanding how you came to a conclusion that asians, who sing more than most others are obviously at the bottom of the vocal ability. Which, sir, I strongly disagree.
@Sainare first of all, naul is an obvious exception, so you really shouldn't argue something for asians with naul as an example. Look I agree with you that nauls vocals are amazing and on par with probably the worlds finest, but for asia's every naul, the west has a staggering number of artists of the same level. The key is that ratio difference, and the reason why it exists is because black people are just vocally better equipped to begin with. That doesnt meant asians cant be great singers.
@Sainare and also, to quote choyongpil, arguably the greatest singer ever to come from korea, said this about vocal ability in popular music, that in pop music, vocal ability can't just be defined by what pipes you have, but also by your style, your tone, pretty much everything that decides whether you simply sound good or not. And in terms of style, Naul is really phenomenal. I have never ever seen anyone like him regardless of race.
@Sainare it probably comes from the fact that he is probably one of the most, if not downright the single most (in Korea at least), dedicated musicians out there. Just from some of his interviews, his knowledge and experience in soul and rnb music, manifested in his near obsession with black music, is astoundingly deep. My guess is that that is where Naul's spectacular style originates from. He is a real musician in ways that the vast majority of musicians today aren't.
@Sainare so to conclude, what im saying is that in terms of pure vocal ability (excluding style or tone etc) naul would be hard pressed to be able to claim superiority to many black musicians. And Naul said this many times himself, that vocally he is no match to many of his idols. But I think he is aware, as are we, that stylistically and interpretively, he is truly unique, and in this aspect, he is probably one of the greatest in the world has ever seen.
When i referred to black artists in my first post I was referring to them as black vs non-black which includes white artists. And I think I said this earlier too that there are plenty of white singers that can sing higher than black singers. I never said Asians have equal vocal ability as black people do, because asians are obviously at the bottom of the ladder. But vocal range is hardly the what determines if a voice is good or not.
I suppose you've never heard any of Jo Yong Pil's music either: He, despite, as you put it, being an Asian and being oh so disadvantaged, he is one of the best pop musicians to come out in the last fifty years bar race.
Also, it's funny that you should mention musicality, because most of American RNB post millenium is worthless recycled music with meaningless lyrics sung over a hiphop beat. In the last decade Naul is one of the best musicians I've heard regardless of race; that is why those who know him praise him.
@cerberusdest did i ever say i listen to much of today's rnb? am i talking about horrible idol k-pop boy groups and girl groups right now? no point in comparing shitty with shitty. and what don't you get about the word VOCALLY. first of all being VOCALLY better doesn't even mean you're a better musician or artist. i'm just straight up talking VOCALLY. i'm simply saying non-asians are VOCALLY better in GENERAL, i'm not even saying that their music is better because it might not be in many cases.
What's more presposterous is your assumption that there is some huge gap between the vocal ability of races that cannot be bridged. Talk to anyone involved with vocal music and they will tell you that that is completely untrue.
@cerberusdest i'll say this a 3rd time, i'm not assuming when i say i don't think there are many asian male singers who sing high in the 5th octave in full voice like the non-asian singers. that's a fact, and i already told you to give me examples since you so strongly disagree. of course vocal ability with asians can be bridged, there are singers like naul and charice who are great, but i'm saying that there are non-asian singers who can do what they do too, and some can do more.
i'm Asian too,i don't start random arguments but it's funny in every korean video someone says that koreans are better than this or better than that original or blah blah. i've heard tons of black dudes sing in full voice high in the 5th octave, which is rare for asians, ESPECIALLY the guys.if all you listen to is korean music then you have not heard the best vocals around.i enjoy things from everywhere, but sorry to break it to you black people are just physiologically better equipped for singing
It is true that American, especially African American, singers are generally better. Not just in the range, but in their expression of emotion.
However, Naul is one of the few Asians who break the statistics. I have not heard many African American singers who can sing as high as him or with such emotion. His music is inspired by soul music, so maybe it's natural. I think the argument that African Americans are better doesn't apply to Naul...
@btsg1 Naul is a high tenor, but there are high tenor black singers who can sing e5-g5 or maybe higher REGULARLY with ease, or even white people who sing rock can sing higher. you're missing my point, Naul is way good, the problem is you guys talk as if there are no black people who can do what he does or something which is hilarious, when really you just don't know enough western R&B/soul singers. it just bothers me that k-music fans always think their shit is the best in the world
@btsg1 btw, how could you possibly have not heard many black singers who can sing as high with as much emotion..i mean, err..how about maybe the song that Brown eyed soul is covering right here? Wanya? you've never heard of him?I'm pretty sure why K-artists always do english covers from artists like Stevie Wonder, Brian Mcknight (who both sing higher btw) and such is because they look up to them not cause they can sing way better than them and just felt like singing a song from a crappier artist
@ryanxcyc what black singers excel is in their voice color and control, not range. To take your example of Wanya, when he performed with 4men in Korea and did a back and forth with shinyongjae of 4men, you could clearly tell shinyongjae had more natural range, age difference considered. But Wanya clearly had more control, technique, and the better voice. And really Naul is just a freak of nature. For an Asian his voice color is exceptional, as well as his control.
@cerberusdest did you just say black singers have no range?...i mean..i cant even..i'm stumped right now that you would say black singers have no range. I don't even know wtf was wrong with that guy in 4men singing hard to say goodbye, if you have an ear then you'd know his run on "after the rain" is totally off LOL. he WAS singing a BIT higher because he was OFF KEY and pitchy, he tried to outdo Wanya and sing higher but he ended up off, Wanya's run was a tad lower because he was ON KEY LOL.
@ryanxcyc let me tell you candidly what's going on here. You're blinded by your own belief that black artists are absolutely superior to asian artists. I can tell this just from the fact that you jumped to the conclusion that I was attacking black artists' range with my comment. Before you attempt to engage in discussion with anyone else please make sure to dispel your own stubborn assumptions and prejudices or you run the risk of provoking the same kind of behavior in others.
@cerberusdest you didn't say they have no range but you're insinuating that asians have more range when you talked about 4men. you're deluding yourself if you think Asians have more range than black people, please name 1 asian male singer who sings high in the 5th octave in a clear mix like stevie wonder or freddie mercury(not black but obviously non-asian) i can name a million more. even a random example like that jacob kid from Idol right now who sings up to f5/g5 in full voice easily.
@ryanxcyc I wasn't implying that Asians have more range, I was saying that that's not what black artists excel at. The reason why artists of other races idolizes the likes of Stevie Wonder is because of their musicality and tone and control - which is exactly what I said earlier - and not vocal range. The point I was making was that there are some things black artists excel at, but they are not the end all and be all of vocal music.
@ryanxcyc Shingyongjae was a case in point : Higher range but overall worse than Wanya. You misinterpreted this as saying Shingyongjae was better than Wanya in some way. I was pointing out that you are idealizing black singers and giving little or no credit to Asian singers when they in fact are better than black artists at least in some aspects.
@cerberusdest i still don't see how you get that shinyongjae has a higher range than Wanya. Naul and Wanya are similar, they both can belt c5 in full voice like nothing regularly and go a bit higher than that if they wish, so you should really tell me where shingyongjae goes higher than them both if he has a higher range than Wanya, who is already a high tenor like i said before. give me the exact notes he hits, not just "oh it sounds like he sings a bit higher when they both sang together"
@ryanxcyc And again, I didn't say anywhere that Asians had more range than Black artists, I just said some Asians have more range, as opposed to control, in which case practically no Asian can claim superiority to a black singer. So once again, my point was that black singers are good because of their control and tone, not so much range, while you misconstrued that as saying that Asians have higher range the black singers.
@ryanxcyc if you have an ear then you'd know his run on "after the rain" is totally off LOL. - do you see what you're doing here? I was in no way defending Shingyongjae's performance nor was I discrediting Wanya, and you feel the need to resort to ridicule and condescension in your defense. Please take your petty self-righteousness elsewhere, it hinders honest discussion and appreciation of music.
@cerberusdest and you don't know anything about range,i assume you read my post about Stevie Wonder and etc so idk why you would still say that black singers have no range. really?no range? Stevie wonder who's sang up to g#5 and has done exclamations from a5-d6 in mix(full voice) has no range? just cause shinyongjaes vocal tone is higher pitched than Wanya's doesn't mean he has more range, it just SOUNDS like he sings higher cause his voice is naturally higher pitched (like most asian singers)
@ryanxcyc wow, relax i am not trying to attack you. Also I never said they have no range...where the hell are you getting this? I said they excel in things other than range. There are many non-black artists who have great range, and just in general white artists have better range than black artists. And what do you think range is? Vocal range is the range of pitches you can make, that's all it is.
You're deluding yourself if you think Wanya has more range than Shingyongjae.
@cerberusdest so you have proof that shingyongjae has more range than Wanya?you know exactly how high they can both go? lol, all i know is that Wanya can sing higher than you think, he's a high tenor just like Naul is. shinyongjae is a high tenor too but was kidding himself when he tried to improvise like Wanya cause Wanya's musicality as a singer is just on another level.
Since you are too stubborn to recognize I am making an honest observation from an unbiased standpoint, I should tell you that I rarely listen to any korean music, bar that of Naul's, and I don't listen to post 90's pop, and the only artists I listen to regularly are 70's and 80's black musicians. I know as well as anyone that black artists have many qualities that make them the best, but it's simply not true that everyone of them are flawless vocalists.
get my perspective right, black ARTISTS aren't superior to asian ARTISTS because MUSIC is about expression and everyone has different taste in that, i'm saying black SINGERS are VOCALLY superior in GENERAL compared to asian SINGERS. I'm Asian and i know, and if you disagree then you're obviously the delusional one here. why do Koreans always do english covers? because english songs suck and the original artists are vocally trash so they decide to cover them? NO, because they look up to them.
@ryanxcyc@ryanxcyc wow, relax i am not trying to attack you. Also I never said they have no range...where the hell are you getting this? I said they excel in things other than range. There are many non-black artists who have great range, and just in general white artists have better range than black artists. And what do you think range is? You're deluding yourself if you think Wanya has more range than Shingyongjae.
@btsg1 i apologize btw i seem to come on a bit strong when talking about this, i don't mean to aim anything at you personally it's just that i think as an Asian i see a lot of asian people make ignorant comments mostly because they have way too much pride, not just when talking about music but anything else some people go as far as putting other races down, and it's even more annoying when it's asian people hating on other asian people lol.
Naul is my favorite singer in Korea, but I seriously think BES as a group shines even more cuz 4 distinct voices combine so well to give a desired sound in my ears, not to mention their nearly impeccable singing-accents. enough said!
i love care about you bny babyface joj kc and kevon and anthony edmonds damn those men were awesome i did try at a talent show yrs back lastnight i'll record it later
dude i did this song by myself i did this with my brother joe and yrs ago on a video my good friend has i also did r-kelly i believe i can fly with a good and awesome friend from chitown chicago yrs ago dcc second chance at decatur east pershing long live the old work release group i enjoyed working with in springfield
great version. vocals were there. great job. only issue would be the "standing & singing". i hate this word now, but they could use a little more "swagger" when singing. a little more physical presentation would be good.
I knew Brown Eyed Soul was good, but I didn't think they can cover a Boys II Men song LIVE and KILL IT! I seriously, not to be racist because I'm Asian myself, didn't think Asian people had the vocal capability to achieve Boys II Men songs. But damn... Naul and the dude in White was damn good and gave me a pleasant surprise.
I dnt think vocal capability comes down to race. Its all about technique and the type of voice you have. You cant have a low voice sing the high parts, his head would explode lol. But seriously, eventually what it comes down to is the environment that surrounds you, the type of voice and technique...!
Hmmm you might be right, but comon.. look at the singers.. Boys to me.. Whitney Houston.. they can really hit them notes! I swear Asian people have like.. a CAP at how high they can sing.. even in this performace. Naul can't hit it like Boys to Men did back in the day..
@G2IntegraDA Are u fkin stupid? How can you compare a man's vocal range with a woman's? Clearly Whitney has higher range + she's a great singer. In fact, Naul has an amazing range for a guy, and he hits all the right notes and goes even HIGHER than Boys II Men in this song, so idk wtf ur talking about. Another thing. Ever heard of Charice? She's asian and DEFINITELY doesn't have a cap like you say so. Go search her up, dumb kid.
@KennyWooProductioN Nice rage kid. You think using the f-word validifies your statement? It actually does the opposite. It makes you look like an adolescent kid. No need to get all riled up
@KennyWooProductioN And plus, I believe I was comparing them to Boys II Men more than Whitney Houston. I was just using her as an example. And what I am saying is, a lot of Asians seem to have that voice cap, in general. Of course we can choose out certain people who are exceptions. In general, black people seem to have an amazingly wide range, man and woman, compared to Asians. Don't take me as a racist against Asians because I am Asian and I love Asian music, but I'm not going to lie to myself
@KennyWooProductioN Wanya can hit Naul's notes and higher if he wants, he's one of the best R&B tenors ever.Naul is great but black people will always be best vocally.plenty of them can sing higher, not a minority of them.Naul is better than a buncha black singers,he's one of the best Korean singers, but if you compare the good Korean singers and black singers theres a big difference.you don't seem to know a lot about singing, Naul doesn't use pure head voice in that song, he is using mixed voice
@G2IntegraDA By the f-word, I rather used it as an expression of my anger towards ur biased opinion, not to "validate" (spelled as such) my argument. Idc if ur asian or not, but all im saying is that vocal range is NOT determined by race,, and how can u just assume that all "black people seem to have an amazingly wide range"? As u said, those people on tv are exceptional singers, regardless of what race they are.
@G2IntegraDA and another thing. you think all black people (men to be specific) can sing 똑같다면 by BES as Naul could? According to ur beliefs, they clearly can. but Im pretty sure ONLY A MINORITY of men in the world can probably sing that song with pure head voice, no falsetto, and that population could be a mix of asians, whites, blacks, etc. Idk how u even came up with that immature idea, so tell me who's the actual adolescent kid.
@KennyWooProductioN I'm glad you finally took the time to put up a thoughtful response, as opposed to the rage. Of course they can't sing BES's 똑같다면 because they don't know the language and probably will never attempt to try it, which makes your argument quite farfetched. I don't know how you came up with that "immature" idea. I don't see why you're so riled up about something I said 2 years ago. In my opinion, black people has an amazing range and you have yours. Why so mad?
@G2IntegraDA By that comment, I implied an assumption that they DO know the language, and if they were to sing it, most still wouldn't be able to sing that song (referring to men here). And if you're constantly going to nag about unrelated matters, then I have nothing more to say. In the worst case, what the heck, I can even change the lyrics of 똑같다면 to English and let every black man sing it. I'm PRETTY sure that only a minority of them would be able to sing it, such as those on TV. Sigh...
@KennyWooProductioN Unrelated matters? You're the one that's talking about random scenarios that will never happen. You do realize when you change the lyrics to another language the song changes all together. It will no longer be a valid experiment. But who are we kidding. That will never happen anyways. You're right that a lot of mainstream media black artists cannot sing anymore, but I was talking about the 90s with an abundance of black ballad groups. Either way, us arguing is childish.
@KennyWooProductioN It won't solve anything and we're ruining this amazing video. I'm sorry if I upset you about my comments, but those are my opinions and I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to them. Have a nice day.
oh and another thing the one in all white, the one that sung "girl oh i know you really love me you just don't realize" he can sang to! where have these guys been at...they havent made an american debut yet they be jammin!!
theyre harmony is tight when they all start singing the bald one is amazing! with the white scarf he be sangin!!! but the rest need to put some more soul into it because boyz II men always put their all into it when they sung.
wow.. This is their 2nd version of "End Of The Road".. I remember the first version back then.. well difference on this one is that its longer and Na-uhl sings with much more efforts and new high pitches!
Brown eyed soul never fails to blow me away with their vocals~

impressed, very impressed. i can see why kroeans regard them as one of the best of the best, especially Naul. his voice! so big, so clear, so....AMAZING! goosebumps all over!
ahhjewlie 8 months ago
and therefore what sets black people apart vocally is their control and depth and tone at all ranges, not range by itself
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest what makes you say that asians are OBVIOUSLY at the bottom of the vocal ability ladder?
Naul has everything that you mention; control, depth, tone and range, and is amazing at them which makes him one of the best singers of all time.
I know its all just an opinion, but i'm really having trouble understanding how you came to a conclusion that asians, who sing more than most others are obviously at the bottom of the vocal ability. Which, sir, I strongly disagree.
Sainare 8 months ago
@Sainare first of all, naul is an obvious exception, so you really shouldn't argue something for asians with naul as an example. Look I agree with you that nauls vocals are amazing and on par with probably the worlds finest, but for asia's every naul, the west has a staggering number of artists of the same level. The key is that ratio difference, and the reason why it exists is because black people are just vocally better equipped to begin with. That doesnt meant asians cant be great singers.
cerberusdest 8 months ago
@Sainare and also, to quote choyongpil, arguably the greatest singer ever to come from korea, said this about vocal ability in popular music, that in pop music, vocal ability can't just be defined by what pipes you have, but also by your style, your tone, pretty much everything that decides whether you simply sound good or not. And in terms of style, Naul is really phenomenal. I have never ever seen anyone like him regardless of race.
cerberusdest 8 months ago
@Sainare it probably comes from the fact that he is probably one of the most, if not downright the single most (in Korea at least), dedicated musicians out there. Just from some of his interviews, his knowledge and experience in soul and rnb music, manifested in his near obsession with black music, is astoundingly deep. My guess is that that is where Naul's spectacular style originates from. He is a real musician in ways that the vast majority of musicians today aren't.
cerberusdest 8 months ago
@Sainare so to conclude, what im saying is that in terms of pure vocal ability (excluding style or tone etc) naul would be hard pressed to be able to claim superiority to many black musicians. And Naul said this many times himself, that vocally he is no match to many of his idols. But I think he is aware, as are we, that stylistically and interpretively, he is truly unique, and in this aspect, he is probably one of the greatest in the world has ever seen.
cerberusdest 8 months ago
can surpass = can sometimes surpass
cerberusdest 9 months ago
I was pointing out that whereas asians and nonasians can surpass blacks in range, this almost never the case with tone, depth or control.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
When i referred to black artists in my first post I was referring to them as black vs non-black which includes white artists. And I think I said this earlier too that there are plenty of white singers that can sing higher than black singers. I never said Asians have equal vocal ability as black people do, because asians are obviously at the bottom of the ladder. But vocal range is hardly the what determines if a voice is good or not.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
I suppose you've never heard any of Jo Yong Pil's music either: He, despite, as you put it, being an Asian and being oh so disadvantaged, he is one of the best pop musicians to come out in the last fifty years bar race.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
Also, it's funny that you should mention musicality, because most of American RNB post millenium is worthless recycled music with meaningless lyrics sung over a hiphop beat. In the last decade Naul is one of the best musicians I've heard regardless of race; that is why those who know him praise him.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest did i ever say i listen to much of today's rnb? am i talking about horrible idol k-pop boy groups and girl groups right now? no point in comparing shitty with shitty. and what don't you get about the word VOCALLY. first of all being VOCALLY better doesn't even mean you're a better musician or artist. i'm just straight up talking VOCALLY. i'm simply saying non-asians are VOCALLY better in GENERAL, i'm not even saying that their music is better because it might not be in many cases.
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
What's more presposterous is your assumption that there is some huge gap between the vocal ability of races that cannot be bridged. Talk to anyone involved with vocal music and they will tell you that that is completely untrue.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest i'll say this a 3rd time, i'm not assuming when i say i don't think there are many asian male singers who sing high in the 5th octave in full voice like the non-asian singers. that's a fact, and i already told you to give me examples since you so strongly disagree. of course vocal ability with asians can be bridged, there are singers like naul and charice who are great, but i'm saying that there are non-asian singers who can do what they do too, and some can do more.
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
i'm Asian too,i don't start random arguments but it's funny in every korean video someone says that koreans are better than this or better than that original or blah blah. i've heard tons of black dudes sing in full voice high in the 5th octave, which is rare for asians, ESPECIALLY the guys.if all you listen to is korean music then you have not heard the best vocals around.i enjoy things from everywhere, but sorry to break it to you black people are just physiologically better equipped for singing
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc
I think the argument that African Americans are better doesn't apply to Naul...
btsg1 9 months ago
@btsg1 Naul is a high tenor, but there are high tenor black singers who can sing e5-g5 or maybe higher REGULARLY with ease, or even white people who sing rock can sing higher. you're missing my point, Naul is way good, the problem is you guys talk as if there are no black people who can do what he does or something which is hilarious, when really you just don't know enough western R&B/soul singers. it just bothers me that k-music fans always think their shit is the best in the world
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@btsg1 btw, how could you possibly have not heard many black singers who can sing as high with as much emotion..i mean, err..how about maybe the song that Brown eyed soul is covering right here? Wanya? you've never heard of him?I'm pretty sure why K-artists always do english covers from artists like Stevie Wonder, Brian Mcknight (who both sing higher btw) and such is because they look up to them not cause they can sing way better than them and just felt like singing a song from a crappier artist
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc what black singers excel is in their voice color and control, not range. To take your example of Wanya, when he performed with 4men in Korea and did a back and forth with shinyongjae of 4men, you could clearly tell shinyongjae had more natural range, age difference considered. But Wanya clearly had more control, technique, and the better voice. And really Naul is just a freak of nature. For an Asian his voice color is exceptional, as well as his control.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest did you just say black singers have no range?...i mean..i cant even..i'm stumped right now that you would say black singers have no range. I don't even know wtf was wrong with that guy in 4men singing hard to say goodbye, if you have an ear then you'd know his run on "after the rain" is totally off LOL. he WAS singing a BIT higher because he was OFF KEY and pitchy, he tried to outdo Wanya and sing higher but he ended up off, Wanya's run was a tad lower because he was ON KEY LOL.
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc let me tell you candidly what's going on here. You're blinded by your own belief that black artists are absolutely superior to asian artists. I can tell this just from the fact that you jumped to the conclusion that I was attacking black artists' range with my comment. Before you attempt to engage in discussion with anyone else please make sure to dispel your own stubborn assumptions and prejudices or you run the risk of provoking the same kind of behavior in others.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest you didn't say they have no range but you're insinuating that asians have more range when you talked about 4men. you're deluding yourself if you think Asians have more range than black people, please name 1 asian male singer who sings high in the 5th octave in a clear mix like stevie wonder or freddie mercury(not black but obviously non-asian) i can name a million more. even a random example like that jacob kid from Idol right now who sings up to f5/g5 in full voice easily.
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc I wasn't implying that Asians have more range, I was saying that that's not what black artists excel at. The reason why artists of other races idolizes the likes of Stevie Wonder is because of their musicality and tone and control - which is exactly what I said earlier - and not vocal range. The point I was making was that there are some things black artists excel at, but they are not the end all and be all of vocal music.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc Shingyongjae was a case in point : Higher range but overall worse than Wanya. You misinterpreted this as saying Shingyongjae was better than Wanya in some way. I was pointing out that you are idealizing black singers and giving little or no credit to Asian singers when they in fact are better than black artists at least in some aspects.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest i still don't see how you get that shinyongjae has a higher range than Wanya. Naul and Wanya are similar, they both can belt c5 in full voice like nothing regularly and go a bit higher than that if they wish, so you should really tell me where shingyongjae goes higher than them both if he has a higher range than Wanya, who is already a high tenor like i said before. give me the exact notes he hits, not just "oh it sounds like he sings a bit higher when they both sang together"
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc And again, I didn't say anywhere that Asians had more range than Black artists, I just said some Asians have more range, as opposed to control, in which case practically no Asian can claim superiority to a black singer. So once again, my point was that black singers are good because of their control and tone, not so much range, while you misconstrued that as saying that Asians have higher range the black singers.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc if you have an ear then you'd know his run on "after the rain" is totally off LOL. - do you see what you're doing here? I was in no way defending Shingyongjae's performance nor was I discrediting Wanya, and you feel the need to resort to ridicule and condescension in your defense. Please take your petty self-righteousness elsewhere, it hinders honest discussion and appreciation of music.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest and you don't know anything about range,i assume you read my post about Stevie Wonder and etc so idk why you would still say that black singers have no range. really?no range? Stevie wonder who's sang up to g#5 and has done exclamations from a5-d6 in mix(full voice) has no range? just cause shinyongjaes vocal tone is higher pitched than Wanya's doesn't mean he has more range, it just SOUNDS like he sings higher cause his voice is naturally higher pitched (like most asian singers)
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@ryanxcyc wow, relax i am not trying to attack you. Also I never said they have no range...where the hell are you getting this? I said they excel in things other than range. There are many non-black artists who have great range, and just in general white artists have better range than black artists. And what do you think range is? Vocal range is the range of pitches you can make, that's all it is.
You're deluding yourself if you think Wanya has more range than Shingyongjae.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
@cerberusdest so you have proof that shingyongjae has more range than Wanya?you know exactly how high they can both go? lol, all i know is that Wanya can sing higher than you think, he's a high tenor just like Naul is. shinyongjae is a high tenor too but was kidding himself when he tried to improvise like Wanya cause Wanya's musicality as a singer is just on another level.
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
Since you are too stubborn to recognize I am making an honest observation from an unbiased standpoint, I should tell you that I rarely listen to any korean music, bar that of Naul's, and I don't listen to post 90's pop, and the only artists I listen to regularly are 70's and 80's black musicians. I know as well as anyone that black artists have many qualities that make them the best, but it's simply not true that everyone of them are flawless vocalists.
cerberusdest 9 months ago
get my perspective right, black ARTISTS aren't superior to asian ARTISTS because MUSIC is about expression and everyone has different taste in that, i'm saying black SINGERS are VOCALLY superior in GENERAL compared to asian SINGERS. I'm Asian and i know, and if you disagree then you're obviously the delusional one here. why do Koreans always do english covers? because english songs suck and the original artists are vocally trash so they decide to cover them? NO, because they look up to them.

G2IntegraDA 2 years ago 13
I dnt think vocal capability comes down to race. Its all about technique and the type of voice you have. You cant have a low voice sing the high parts, his head would explode lol. But seriously, eventually what it comes down to is the environment that surrounds you, the type of voice and technique...!
angelgabs 2 years ago 7
Hmmm you might be right, but comon.. look at the singers.. Boys to me.. Whitney Houston.. they can really hit them notes! I swear Asian people have like.. a CAP at how high they can sing.. even in this performace. Naul can't hit it like Boys to Men did back in the day..
G2IntegraDA 2 years ago

gosmartie 2 years ago
@G2IntegraDA Are u fkin stupid? How can you compare a man's vocal range with a woman's? Clearly Whitney has higher range + she's a great singer. In fact, Naul has an amazing range for a guy, and he hits all the right notes and goes even HIGHER than Boys II Men in this song, so idk wtf ur talking about. Another thing. Ever heard of Charice? She's asian and DEFINITELY doesn't have a cap like you say so. Go search her up, dumb kid.
KennyWooProductioN 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN Nice rage kid. You think using the f-word validifies your statement? It actually does the opposite. It makes you look like an adolescent kid. No need to get all riled up
G2IntegraDA 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN And plus, I believe I was comparing them to Boys II Men more than Whitney Houston. I was just using her as an example. And what I am saying is, a lot of Asians seem to have that voice cap, in general. Of course we can choose out certain people who are exceptions. In general, black people seem to have an amazingly wide range, man and woman, compared to Asians. Don't take me as a racist against Asians because I am Asian and I love Asian music, but I'm not going to lie to myself
G2IntegraDA 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN Wanya can hit Naul's notes and higher if he wants, he's one of the best R&B tenors ever.Naul is great but black people will always be best vocally.plenty of them can sing higher, not a minority of them.Naul is better than a buncha black singers,he's one of the best Korean singers, but if you compare the good Korean singers and black singers theres a big difference.you don't seem to know a lot about singing, Naul doesn't use pure head voice in that song, he is using mixed voice
ryanxcyc 9 months ago
@G2IntegraDA By the f-word, I rather used it as an expression of my anger towards ur biased opinion, not to "validate" (spelled as such) my argument. Idc if ur asian or not, but all im saying is that vocal range is NOT determined by race,, and how can u just assume that all "black people seem to have an amazingly wide range"? As u said, those people on tv are exceptional singers, regardless of what race they are.
KennyWooProductioN 9 months ago
@G2IntegraDA and another thing. you think all black people (men to be specific) can sing 똑같다면 by BES as Naul could? According to ur beliefs, they clearly can. but Im pretty sure ONLY A MINORITY of men in the world can probably sing that song with pure head voice, no falsetto, and that population could be a mix of asians, whites, blacks, etc. Idk how u even came up with that immature idea, so tell me who's the actual adolescent kid.
KennyWooProductioN 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN I'm glad you finally took the time to put up a thoughtful response, as opposed to the rage. Of course they can't sing BES's 똑같다면 because they don't know the language and probably will never attempt to try it, which makes your argument quite farfetched. I don't know how you came up with that "immature" idea. I don't see why you're so riled up about something I said 2 years ago. In my opinion, black people has an amazing range and you have yours. Why so mad?
G2IntegraDA 9 months ago
@G2IntegraDA By that comment, I implied an assumption that they DO know the language, and if they were to sing it, most still wouldn't be able to sing that song (referring to men here). And if you're constantly going to nag about unrelated matters, then I have nothing more to say. In the worst case, what the heck, I can even change the lyrics of 똑같다면 to English and let every black man sing it. I'm PRETTY sure that only a minority of them would be able to sing it, such as those on TV. Sigh...
KennyWooProductioN 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN Unrelated matters? You're the one that's talking about random scenarios that will never happen. You do realize when you change the lyrics to another language the song changes all together. It will no longer be a valid experiment. But who are we kidding. That will never happen anyways. You're right that a lot of mainstream media black artists cannot sing anymore, but I was talking about the 90s with an abundance of black ballad groups. Either way, us arguing is childish.
G2IntegraDA 9 months ago
@KennyWooProductioN It won't solve anything and we're ruining this amazing video. I'm sorry if I upset you about my comments, but those are my opinions and I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to them. Have a nice day.
