What an amazing relationship it takes to make something so amazing come to fruition. In response to the comment that if you take the trainer away and the dog does not do math I would like to say that whoever said that knows nothing about animals. I taught my Jack Russell to do math and I know that animals work on energy, trust and routine. If you take away her trainer it is a violation of all three. It seems to me anyone who knows even knows nothing should know that. All the best to Maggie!

Putting down something so beautiful is a terrible thing to do. WHO please are the EXPERTS!?? Jessie, Maggie's owner, is the expert. If the so called experts can look at that dog and not see that she is brilliant at math and her owner at training then they know much less than Jessie and Maggie. This trick is easy to teach your dog, if you have the patience and you know what to reward & when. My old dog could do this, but I taught him to bark the answers. He could do any spoken math problem, as long as the answer was a whole number 1-8, even square roots. It's an OLD trick. Google "clever hans" and you'll see stories of a 19th century horse that could do it. Companion animals are able to pick up extremely subtle cues (even those we don't realise we're giving) and respond to them.

It looks peculiar that they focus on only two numbers. I am sure it's not easy to teach a dog to do even that but it would be nice to see the dog do more math. Even if it does mistakes.

the dog merely is trained to keep tapping her foot. Dogs senses are much better than humans so the dog just keeps tapping until she feels relief fall over the audience. The owner doesn't do anything

this dog is just using the clever hans trick. She looks at the expression on her owners face then stops counting when she sees the proper expression. alot of animals learn that and arent really counting.
