"And when they clean the street I'll be the only shit that's left behind."
That line makes me extremely sad to hear him sing. He was an incredible musician, the writer of some of my absolute favorite songs. He expressed his pain in such a beautiful form.
@polesaremelting I've got a real love/hate feeling for what you said....but you're probably right. even if he was underrated without the radio, at least he NEVER sold out, and always stuck true to himself.
This song makes me think about the most fun times of my life...they were never manufactured things; they were always accidental. Things designed to be fun always depress me, too.
"the trumpet has obviously been drinking/cause he's fucking up even the simplest lines". I like how Elliott sometimes uses profanity on slower songs. He uses his lovely soft voice to elegantly unite a vulgar word like "fuck" with a gentle and delicate melody. The way he so effortlessly unify's these complete opposites is extremely beautiful to me.
I first listened to Elliot Smith back in January or February of this year, not long after my girlfriend of a year broke up with me. His music was just so relaxing and really connected with pain I was feeling. Now I feel so much better, as I have started college and begun a new phase of my life. Everything feels fresh and positive. Now I continue to listen to his music, and it still connects with the positive and joyful feelings I'm having. It's truly amazing.
i think elliott smith music is user friendly...what i mean by that, is that there's so many interpretations of what it could mean. wherever you're at in your life; whatever you think it means...you're right
this man had such a godly voice mixed with godly lyrics and to add to that his own godly guitar, he was basically a god among music and he had to die...its really too bad that a musician of this level had to leave us so early, his music will never be forgotten though
I think it means more than that. I see it as his comment about how absurd and confusing life can be, and his reluctance about taking part in it, and just going along with this spectacle that makes no sense. It might also be about fame, and being in the spotlight...like most Elliott Smith songs, there are many possible ways of interpreting it. Its one of the things that makes his music so great
whenever i listen to this i just imagine a lonely boy walking down an alleyway, who suddenly stumbles upon a parade, theres a girl on one of the cars who makes him jump on the car and they go through the parade together as a rain of roses falls
@meotoko77 Nice! I try not to be negative. If I watch a video all the way through or not, I usually don't leave any dislikes. I figure if you don't like it then you can comment on it and spare the dislike. I'm pretty open most of the time when coming to this subject.
if you're a big e.s. fan and you ever get acquainted with a woman that knows more of his songs than you do, then i suggest you make note of your exits.
U know what I love. Is that every single person liked this video and wasnt a little bitch and tried to be funny by disliking it. Good job world. At least we know that their are some out there that haven't become lost f u know what I mean
I was fortunate enough to meet and play with this man...he was in a band called Heatmiser before going solo...when he came back around, my room mates played with him as a lone drum and bass. I remember it well. RIP.
Every time I feel emotional about anything, I return to Elliot. At one time it was the death of my father, another it was lost love. This time it is something as trifling as the Phillies losing a playoff series. He made pain into poetry and I strive to be as honest as he was
@asonjaryg There actually was a Duracell bunny in Duracell commercials in the mid-nineties. The Energizer bunny was a marketing response to one-up Duracell. So now you can enjoy the song :)
i became a fan of elliot smith after he died and i find his music to be ..so encompassing. i wish i could have appreciated him when he was alive. RIP.
"I'll be the only shit thats left behind" - tell me this doesn't strike as the most familiar part of the song! This part makes everyone smile because they'd rather be seperate from the rest; an individual. If being an individual with different ideas makes you trash... who gives a fuck! Being unique is something to be proud of.
@ohrightonman Jesus fucking Christ, it's Oscar Wilde's evil mutilated zombie-corpse risen from slumber to plague Youtube with his elegantly beautiful albeit cursed poetic language. Shit.
