Strange thing is. I was addicted to playing mech game on the pc. And then sitting down and watching this CGI robot show. It took me a few episodes befor i relised..i was played the game the show was based on. So thats why things seemed so similer.
personally, wingzerotbs, i would rather enjoy being up-close and personal withe the melee because it is far more HONORABLE! but to be totally honest with you, it is better safe than sorry
I saw one episode of this series a long time ago while channel surfing but never saw it again. Very interesting series. Its made by Mainframe Entertainment, which is now Rainmaker Entertainment, the guys that made Reboot. And I know they make quality stuff. I think I'll watch the rest of this. Looks as good as everything else they've done. However the human models are at that creepy point between stylized and real. Makes the humans look weird.
I'm used to the first game... and being a Northern hero. And the Southern forces being the enemy, to be crushed under foot. This, which seems to focus on a team representing the Allied Southern Territories (AST) and not the Confederated Northern City-States (CNCS) is rather... hard to identify with for someone like me. I end up looking at the Vanguard as a disgrace to the noble North with their attitudes, and end up getting disgusted by the close-up look at the Dragons...
Wow it is great to see so many fans remember this show! 0ldSparta, as a fan - what would you have liked to have seen in this series to make it better?
Them move through the war of the Alliance, and then see them continue it on into either something related to the game storyline, or the first story book, who's name I cannot remember
So sad. An awesome game, and the creators of the game didn't even get a word in on how this story went. Originally, it was supposed to get into the War of the Alliance against the CEF, but the folks who made the TV show decided, oh, that's too confusing for kids. So they screwed up the show by making their own decisions on how the story would run. This could have been so much better. :(
Terra Nova is the name of a human colony millenia into the future. It was explained in the PC games which came before this, as well as on the site for the table-top wargame which spawned it all, created by Dream Pod 9.
I think they killed the show before they began it... a show about TOURNAMENST? WTF? What about the awesome war, North vs South or CEF? This show dumbed it all down to the level of Yo-ghey-Oh and Poke-a-man.
As entertaining as it is to see gears going hand to hand with melee weapons, it's still BS. I played Heavy Gear and I had a better chance of getting my leg blown off than getting in close. Also there weren't any melee weapons. Besides, why would someone risk close combat when a couple choice missles can take out your opponent a kilometer away?
Yeah, I beat the game like 50 times over. I think I put more time into it than any other game I've played since. Memorizing each weapon and gear type/class. (I was young, had a lotta time on my hands) This series doesnt do the game justice. I was excited when i saw this, but now I'm really sad they totally ignored the mood and spirit of the game. This is childish, the game was serious and strategic. More like rainbow six than this hello kitty island adventure crap.

Nope not first 3d shows. Back in '94 they had Reboot. In '95 they had Beast Wars Transformers (my favorite), in '99 Beast Machines (another favorite) among others. ;) Go watch those two shows. Real stories, real war. No silly tournament stuff. ;)
dude there is also a table top strategy game and the second has no one playing online so kinda not worth it i enjoyed it for awhile but i could not find anyone to play
Eehhhh partially wrong. The first one was out in in 1997. The second came out around 1999. The first game was more of a heavily modified Mechwarrior 2 game engine... buggy but had it's fun. The second one was much better as in less bugs, more features (stealth stuff) way nicer graphics, different controls and weapons style, you got melee and could actually use it too.
The games are older than the series. And older than the computer games is the table-top wargame in the same vein as Battletech, which spawned MechWarrior. Both MechWarrior and Heavy Gear were made into computer games by Activision back in the day- some of the best mech combat simulators ever made for the PC market.
This crappy show is based off the game, the original table top version. They made 2 pc games, Heavy Gear in 1997 I think, and Heavy Gear 2 in 1999. Very fun.
Anyone else notice how the guns in here and in Starship Troopers sound like pewpewpew guns? Pretty lame considering the caliber of guns these Gears are supposed to be using...that's what you get with kids shows nowadays. Hah. I miss Beast Wars/Machines.
Actually, it's from a completely different CGI studio. Max Steel and Starship Troopers were by Foundation Imaging- this was made by Mainframe, who did ReBoot, War Planets, Beast Wars, and I think Action Man? (Which was very similar to Foundation Imaging's Max Steel, complete with Xtreme Sports athlete main character.
well the game was old it came with my dad's computer it was so hard we never passed it I passed level 1 but it was hard lol but this real looks cheesy in the game it was a war and the robots had really no color it was brown I think before it was a limited game that came with the computer now you can buy from amazon lol check it out (under heavy gear)
not that good but I wouldnt go as far as calling it cheesy, when I saw your comment I expected MUCH worse
do agree with you on the game though, almost no mech games have those bright colors and all creators seem to love making their mech games almost impossible to advance on(died several times in many weird and unfair ways)
this makes it seem like just another tourny style show for kids
Exactly... KIDs tourney show, like the 100 others out there so they followed the formula and killed what could have been a good show with real story based on the North vs South. And BTW the original pc game and Heavy Gear 2 were not that hard, you just need to get used to the controls which were not much more different than any mech game. It's not like Armored Core (which was fun) where you mash weapons on and go, you had to make sure you equipped the right armor/equipment etc. Very fun.
Seems a bit off... I will agree the Heavy Gear games are about building the right Gear for the job, but so is Armored Core. The combat's the big difference- Heavy Gear is more of a combat simulator like the Mechwarrior games that Activision made before them, while Armored Core was a bit more on the arcadey side in terms of controls, due to its console origins.
But, yes, the game isn't that hard, until you get a decent ways into it. The difficulty curve's rather well-tuned.
True, I guess I missed pointing out that Heavy Gear is a sim type game while Armored core is more so like an FPS or arcade style experience. Different tastes/audiences.
