A P40 "Genesis" is a diesel powered engine, while a P42 is a dual-mode loco - which means it can run either on diesel power or electric power via third rail. NYC bans diesel emissions under their tunnels, hence the concept of a dual-mode locomotive came about in the 1950's with the FL9 and continues with the P42. This P40 you see was leased to MNRR for use only on the diesel shuttles such as Danbury.
NM I was half asleep! P32 is the dual-mode engine - I thought that was what you meant! P42s were next generation of P40s, P42s have higher horsepower (4,250 vs. 4,000) and higher top speed (110 MPH vs. 103 MPH). Sorry about the confusion!
MN engine should be pulling the shuttle to CT.
