@TheElectron504 Didnt see an answer to your question so; Brands dont matter but the best thing is to match cards from the same series (like say two 5850) because the weakest card will set the overall max performance. Also, and im not 100% sure, it is best to match specifications such as clocks and VRAM. Hope it helps :).
See how your motherboard and PSU arent in a case, can you buy setups like that? i dont like cases because it gets too hot and doesnt have enough ventilation where it is atm.

600w psu (continuious)
2.9ghz phenom II quad core

The pc tec at frys said this card ALONE rquires 600watts, when i showed him my psu fan had a scratch on the coolent he said that didn't matter. He also said i need a copper platted psu fan instead of an aluminum psu fan. He said to get a 5670 and nothing more. I'm thinking 5770 or 5850. ANY SUGGETIONS?
CAN SOMEONE ANSWER THIS. IM STRUGGLING BEWTWEEN 5770 AND 5850. BECAUSE I LOOKED AT ALL THE SPECS OF THE 2 CARDS AND THEY ARE BOTH SAPPHIRE BUT THE 5770 HAS BETTER CORE CLOCK SPEED AND STREAMING UNITS THAN THE 5850. BUT IN EVERY VIDEO IT SAYS ITS BETTER AND HAS MORE FPS THAN 5770. BECAUSE I HEARD THAT THE HIGHER THE MODEL NAME THE BETTER. BUT THE SPECS ON THE LOWER MODEL CARD ARE BETTER. IM SO CONFUSED?
@caydn2 cards are confusing thats why its best to watch/ read reviews because it all comes down to what quality components and how its put together that makes the difference.
@FRURMELLL wow bullshit... your eyes dont see in frames per second but just absorb all of the light that come in contact with them... for a seasoned gamer can easily tell the difference between 60 and 150 fps
I can tell more than 60FPS. The human eye can see more generally - there's no exact amount like anyone's hearing frequency range. I'll admit, you mainly feel the difference than see it. I like having 60FPS as I'm one of the few who feels nauseous if I play under 40FPS for a little while and get nauseous and feel dizzy and sick if I look at halogen lights for a while too (hmmh, like [Ubisoft] Gabe Graziani's wife... he told me - shouldn't mind me saying that).
@FRURMELLL "Not visible to the human eye" you do know humans dont see things in frames.. right?
Also, its not about what you see you retard. The higher the framerate the less input lag you have, this applies to ALL games. Also I think you should read up on what "laggy" means, lag is related to connection, ping in multiplayer games, not framerate.
@FRURMELLL In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to "see" the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to percieve 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS.
@FRURMELLL I thought the human eye can see 70 fps. bu anything higher than 40fps is great. your normal enduser screen extends the frames to 60 (60hz) 120 (120hz) .... last time is saw 1600hz tvs. it is totally crazy to sell the enduser 1600hz tvs .
@TheGMIM It's really relative to what's being displayed on screen. 60 FPS is really all you need though, it's really really smooth. The guy is wrong to say you can't see higher though. Also, if you're running crossfire, you're going to run into microstutter in games once FPS go below 25 - 30 FPS. Keep that in mind.
@FRURMELLL But if you have 120hz screen you can get 120fps, and you can DEFINETLY see a difference :) but not much, i would say 50-60 fps good... 40 laggy.. 30 or less is unplayable for me :) PERSONAL
for SLI,, u need to have the same card, it has to be clocked at the same speed but it doesnt need to be the same brand, eg u can have evega card and a sapphire card,
for crossfire, you don't need to have the same card but cards from the same generation,
eg u can crossfire 5850 with 5870, BUT the higher card will be downgraded to match the clock speed of the lower cards,,
im looking at buying a second 5850 for my system but i have a 700w crossfire/sli ready psu but the recommendation is 750w? will i be able to run 2 5850's and i5760 overclocked without issues?
@PoisonedSorrows Wattage means 80% nothing, give us the specs of the power supply, number of amps on the 12 v rails, model of the power supply, number of connections etc... Then it'll be a pleasure to answer your question :)
@CallOFwar100 i saw the 5870+5850 benchmark its almost the same as 2x5850 lol like 3% diffrerence.... my advice is 2x5870 wait for 6xxx series and the price will go down... im planning to buy another 5850 too just waiting for price drop...
I dont see how you think buying 2 radeon 5850s is "not an expensive investment" the card is still 250-300 dollars, so 600 dollars for your graphics solution ALONE is not that expensive? fuck i wish i had as much money as you guys
i got a problem. when i play starcraft 2 or some other game my game crashes and then i get blue screen. i have updated to the lastest driver, any ideas?
Yeah, um... my computer can play every game out ther.
3.25gb system memory ddr3, sapphire 4670 512mb, AMD Phenom II x3 720 black edition, WD caviar black 640GB 64mb cache, and some AM2 socket gigabyte mobo(forgot model), plays crysis on ultra high settings at 1440x900 no AA at an average 23 FPS, MW2 max settings 2x AA at about 18-25 FPS, and empire and napoleon total war max settings no AA at about 20 FPS constant.
@CripEastSide You have to use two of the same card, like a sapphire 5770 and an xfx 5770, not two different models, for example a 5750 and 5770 would not run together. I have a 4670 and am going to upgrade to a 5850 within a year unless those damn 6xxx series come out. Also, unless you have the MSi fuzion mobo, you can't run an nvidia and ATI together.
@klote2314 Yeah I know, I just need some research and benchmark reviews on them before I really know if I should get a 5850 or something of the same price in the 6xxx series. I just want to know if the 5850 will take me through 2011 maybe 2012, like the 6xxx series will. So I have to wait and see.
@GoldenMurderer 6xxx aint so much of an upgrade ati card will release their beast cards in 2011 not this year... crossifre 5850 is the best choice for now
can anyone tell me 5770 corssfire worth it or not.. i have a 5770vapor x now.. planning to have another one...u think it will beat the performance of 5850?
@KHONObakayaro just buy a sapphire vapor-x 5870, it will outperform the 5770 crossfire and you have a lower power reguirement (i have 1, on idle, stays at 30 or under ´C, annd when on load, havent gotten over 60, also good clockability)
You wont waste so much money and you will have a good card that isint that expensive theese days (i got mine at 300€) so sell your 5770 and go buy 1.
wow superb performance...but the price of vapor x 5770 couldnt go any higher...and i even heard that 6000 series is coming out not so soon but yea..so i thought i could hang on with the 5770 but rlly thanks for the reply..cause i would change my mind
@KHONObakayaro in most specs yes but for the future i would get a 5850 and get a second later for crossfire, it would pwn them, but apparently 3 hd5770 vapor x oc's in crossfire will be in a 5970 range almost
bro pls tell me this...right now im using 5770 vapor x and a silverstone 560w strider... which is corssfire certified... and im really worry bout getting a 2nd gcard which is the msi hawk 5770.. because i heard 5770 seires has lowpower consumption
One 5850 can play Crysis on Very High at 1920x1080 without framerate drop except for rare moments with particle effects and enemies clogging the screen.
@kornskydiver It has to be said that the 5970 has the performance edge, but although I know ATI cards are relatively well priced, the 5970 is kind of expensive so the two 5850's are more worth it IMO.
Hey guys please help me i have choose ati radeon hd 5850
and 790gx mother board well which should i choose is amd phenom IIx4 955 black edition of amd phenom II x6 1090t black edition (should i buy it now or should i wait and upgrade it later).!!!!
I've been looking at the 5850, looks nice, will last a long time, but I found that the gtx 285 has double bit power.. do you really need 512 bits? And do the bits make it more future proof. (I'm looking for a budget card) Also which would work with an AMD Phenom II x2?
@pewpewmigoo Do you know if I could run 6 monitors with the dual 5850 crossfire setup? I trade stocks at home and need as many monitors as possible. thanks
@TMNoob3 well it isn't such a stupid question, ibuypower are selling a 5850 and Phenom II x2 (550 i think o.o) computer, so i think they put bottlenecking in consideration. I'm gonna try and get the x4 945, 955 or 965 though depending on my budget
i own a sapphire hd5850 it goes fine but ever since i got the card i get kernel power errors in the form of a blue screen when this happens my system locks up the only way out of this is to press the reset button
so i will be taking this back 2 moro for a replacement
awesome card but ild say rushed and some not built well so u will have problems companies need to stop rushing
seems nvidia have a more stable setup drivers and cards
2:07 not very expensive investment my ass, not everyone can spend 600 bucks on video cards while building a pc lol, i plan on getting one of these and i think that will be enough ;)
@Tehbarrel Considering that the minimum required supply for 1 card is 600W then no. I have 2 5850's in Crossfire mode and have a 750W Corsair PSU which is like the lowest you should go to keep at least some margin between what they need and what you can supply...
@no1doesitlikeme um ur a fool i have 1x 5850 and 600 watts powersupply but powersupplies arent perfect so max 80% use it will get so 480 watts requirement for 1x 5850
@Tehbarrel Yes but you cant buy a 480W PSU and expect to run a 5850 on it...retard. Go onto the website, like I said, the minimum you can use is a 600W supply. For two, you needn't double the number to 1200W...but 750W or above by a good brand, will do fine.
@Tehbarrel i got a 600w 40 dollar cheap powersupply and i run my phenom II X4 oced and my video card oced too with stock volt.. honesyly this card doesnt need a lot of wattage and runs very very cool... 58xx series FTW!!!!
@keyzin it's a mobility radeon (pile of shit) a 5750 would have similar performance. It Is only good cause of low res / small screen size. I have 5650 and it is ok but compared to even an 8800gt not amazing
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5850 with up to 4901 MB of HyperMemory™ (1024 MB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM, up to 3067 MB of shared system memory), supporting Unified Video Decoder (UVD), OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 5.0, Microsoft® DirectX® 11, OpenGL® 3.1, OpenCL™ 1.1
@Tehbarrel No, the mobility radeon hd 5850 uses GDDR3 and I was talking about stream processor cores. Stop trying to prove me wrong, when clearly you are absolutely clueless about this kind of thing.
@Tehbarrel Yes the 'normal' 5850 uses ddr5 but firstly you said 'ALL' 5850's use ddr5, which is WRONG, and secondly, we weren't talking about ALL 5850's, we were talking about the mobility version. Keep up, fucking hell.
I currently have a 9800GTX+ Asus GPU, and I am thinking about upgrading to a 5850 Toxic by Sapphire. Could anyone tell me if it would be well worth the upgrade?
any one can tell me wat the difference between xfx, gigabyte, sapphire on these ati radeon hd sereis, im planning to get a hd5670, but these xfx stuff, makes me confuse to choose
@manutube8080 the entrance 5850 is about $250. you could build a complete system that will run any game out there for about 1600 dollars, which does include windows 7 and a case. here are the items I used. (item numbers on new egg.) N82E16811129043 N82E16822136544 N82E16820139034 N82E16813128442 N82E16832116716 N82E16819103849 N82E16814127500 N82E16827106300 Note I didn't take more than 5 minutes looking, you could find better memory and stuff and fans, but this is a general idea.
what,s better GTX 460 SLI OR ATI 5850 xfire please answer

FPS chart:
60 fps=completely smooth. Higher than this framerate is not visible to the human eye.
50 fps=it may be a tad bit slower than 60fps.
40 fps=Really fast. Almost buttery smooth, but still a tad bit jittery if you look very very closely.
30 fps=Not entirely smooth, but 100% playable in nearly all games.
24 fps=Minimum requirement for optimal gameplay
15 fps=Laggy
Below 15 fps=unplayable
Below 1 frame per second=enjoy your slideshow!

GoldenMurderer 1 year ago
@GoldenMurderer 6xxx aint so much of an upgrade ati card will release their beast cards in 2011 not this year... crossifre 5850 is the best choice for now

can anyone tell me 5770 corssfire worth it or not.. i have a 5770vapor x now.. planning to have another one...u think it will beat the performance of 5850?
KHONObakayaro 1 year ago
@KHONObakayaro just buy a sapphire vapor-x 5870, it will outperform the 5770 crossfire and you have a lower power reguirement (i have 1, on idle, stays at 30 or under ´C, annd when on load, havent gotten over 60, also good clockability)
You wont waste so much money and you will have a good card that isint that expensive theese days (i got mine at 300€) so sell your 5770 and go buy 1.
justmymage 1 year ago
@justmymage
wow superb performance...but the price of vapor x 5770 couldnt go any higher...and i even heard that 6000 series is coming out not so soon but yea..so i thought i could hang on with the 5770 but rlly thanks for the reply..cause i would change my mind
KHONObakayaro 1 year ago
@KHONObakayaro in most specs yes but for the future i would get a 5850 and get a second later for crossfire, it would pwn them, but apparently 3 hd5770 vapor x oc's in crossfire will be in a 5970 range almost
MrEasternelement 1 year ago
@MrEasternelement
bro pls tell me this...right now im using 5770 vapor x and a silverstone 560w strider... which is corssfire certified... and im really worry bout getting a 2nd gcard which is the msi hawk 5770.. because i heard 5770 seires has lowpower consumption
KHONObakayaro 1 year ago
he calls 2 5850 an investment ? i'd wait a bit more and get a 5970 ...tha's what i call an investment

can a single hd 5850 play 3d vision games
jeanp0190 1 year ago
3d vision requires u to buy a new screen 3d glasses etc so its better just to buy a very high end pc xD

can you use the a single hd 5850 for 3d vision gaming

WHAT THE FUCK WHERE IS CRYSIS!
YOTTR 1 year ago 31
@YOTTR
One 5850 can play Crysis on Very High at 1920x1080 without framerate drop except for rare moments with particle effects and enemies clogging the screen.
Two 5850s will crush Crysis on Ultra.

Hey Bud, do you think I will get better performance with 2 x 5850 or one 5970?
kornskydiver 1 year ago
@kornskydiver They are nearly equal but the price is not so i suggest getting 2 x 5850.
YOTTR 1 year ago
@kornskydiver It has to be said that the 5970 has the performance edge, but although I know ATI cards are relatively well priced, the 5970 is kind of expensive so the two 5850's are more worth it IMO.

@rpop996 dude 6 cores is quite a bit, id say the x6 if you really need it but if you dont go for the x4, its what i have and its a great overclocker.

so, can i use the HIS HD 5870 icooler v Turbo and a Sapphire/HIS icooler v turbo HD 5830 in crossfire in the same pc?
DevilGene66 1 year ago
I've been looking at the 5850, looks nice, will last a long time, but I found that the gtx 285 has double bit power.. do you really need 512 bits? And do the bits make it more future proof. (I'm looking for a budget card) Also which would work with an AMD Phenom II x2?
rctwik 1 year ago
@rctwik go 5850
pewpewmigoo 1 year ago

@rctwik Phenom II X2? Please tell me you have a core unlocking mobo...
TMNoob3 1 year ago
@TMNoob3 well it isn't such a stupid question, ibuypower are selling a 5850 and Phenom II x2 (550 i think o.o) computer, so i think they put bottlenecking in consideration. I'm gonna try and get the x4 945, 955 or 965 though depending on my budget

i own a sapphire hd5850 it goes fine but ever since i got the card i get kernel power errors in the form of a blue screen when this happens my system locks up the only way out of this is to press the reset button
so i will be taking this back 2 moro for a replacement
awesome card but ild say rushed and some not built well so u will have problems companies need to stop rushing
seems nvidia have a more stable setup drivers and cards

could i use 2x 5850's with a 600 watts powersupply?
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel yes but u should probably go with 650 or 750 and use one certified by ati for crossfire
abeershahid 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel
Depends on your entire computer setup, but highly likely, not..
Itoby2 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel Considering that the minimum required supply for 1 card is 600W then no. I have 2 5850's in Crossfire mode and have a 750W Corsair PSU which is like the lowest you should go to keep at least some margin between what they need and what you can supply...
no1doesitlikeme 1 year ago
@no1doesitlikeme um ur a fool i have 1x 5850 and 600 watts powersupply but powersupplies arent perfect so max 80% use it will get so 480 watts requirement for 1x 5850
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel Yes but you cant buy a 480W PSU and expect to run a 5850 on it...retard. Go onto the website, like I said, the minimum you can use is a 600W supply. For two, you needn't double the number to 1200W...but 750W or above by a good brand, will do fine.
no1doesitlikeme 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel i got a 600w 40 dollar cheap powersupply and i run my phenom II X4 oced and my video card oced too with stock volt.. honesyly this card doesnt need a lot of wattage and runs very very cool... 58xx series FTW!!!!
franzken 1 year ago
@franzken ive got a 600w intel i5 750 oced from 2.66 to 3.4 ghz with a 5850 so i do know the 58xx series is ftw
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@keyzin it's a mobility radeon (pile of shit) a 5750 would have similar performance. It Is only good cause of low res / small screen size. I have 5650 and it is ok but compared to even an 8800gt not amazing

@no1doesitlikeme all 5850's have gddr5 and 1 gpu its a single processor gpu
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel No, the mobility radeon hd 5850 uses GDDR3 and I was talking about stream processor cores. Stop trying to prove me wrong, when clearly you are absolutely clueless about this kind of thing.
no1doesitlikeme 1 year ago
@no1doesitlikeme i see what u mean with ur name and the normal 5850 uses ddr5
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@Tehbarrel Yes the 'normal' 5850 uses ddr5 but firstly you said 'ALL' 5850's use ddr5, which is WRONG, and secondly, we weren't talking about ALL 5850's, we were talking about the mobility version. Keep up, fucking hell.
