  • Nubia looks sensational.

  • Comment removed

  • Nubia was in the older DC comics...briefly...but she was there...but why the black kid have to be the "foe"...? What up wit dat???

  • I've never seen Nubia before, wow, they should put her in the current comic!

  • I remember this ad. I thought it was cute how they showed a boy playing with the dolls too.

  • I begged and begged my mum for this doll , but she knew my dad would go ape shit if she got me a "girls toy" lol.... ;P

  • I hate youre dad for that. What a bumhead. And your mum as well, if she had any guts she would have got you it.

  • LOL alas the price of peace ....

They actually did me a favor as it made me obsessively creative , involving kidnapping my twin sisters Sindy doll (Barbie was blond meh! She had to be Black Canary with biro pen fishnets ) and going mental with a lot of gold nail varnish and stickers lol....

  • Wuh-wuh wo-wan HUH-WEE!! I was too old for thr toy at the time, but laughed my butt off at that kid. Playing dolls with two girls!! Every Dad's wish!!

  • I wanna play with the real Wonder Woman(Lynda Carter of course).

  • i just saw this old commercial...it brought back memories,..then I saw the comment "Sit on a knife!",...lol,YOWCH!!!....

  • LOL I had this wonder women barbie This brings all the good times back, thanks 4 posting

  • I begged my parents for this doll and never got it. It still hurts to watch the commercial 30 years later....

    ;-(

  • did you check ebay..its not too late

  • @firmingitup Lmfao...me 2 :D

  • @TheDigitalGeisha Haha. You always remember the ones that got away :-)

  • @firmingitup buy it now...Im the same and have the whole set.

  • @firmingitup I have the same 'pain' over the Frosty the Snowman shaved ice maker that 'wasn't suitable' Parents, WHAT A CROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Nubia doll likes like Storm from the X-Men.

  • I understand why blacks might be annoyed since the black girl is probably the first, if not about the only, black girl I've ever noticed in a toy commercial and she gets to have her doll tied up by a white woman. It's kind of like stepping on someone's fantasies.

Imagine all of a sudden you'd see a Pakistanese little girl in a Barbie commercial and her doll's called Partie Pooper and she's like carrying a bunch of nails to throw at the other dolls.

  • I'm not saying that with anger in my words or anything, just an observation.

  • Yeah I did mean to piss on your face on purpose! So the fuck what that you read comments that you didn't like - get over it it's called life! I wasn't fucking talking to you anyhow nazi! Who the fuck was speaking about the n- slur?! Try to stay on the same page. Don't dare bring politics into it b/c I bet that you would have voted for that inbred name bush if you did reside in America. *The doll Nubia is eye catching & others think so as well. That was our whole point! So sit on a knife!

  • As I recall Nubia was actually W.W. twin sister kidnapped at birth- she was W.W. equal in everyway. During their battle Wonder Woman took the ring off Nubia and released her from the mind control that made her evil - Growing up in the 70's it was great to see a powerful woman of color (Storm came along later)DC never developed the character further. I had always hoped that they would have bought Nubia to life for the 70's TV show Casting Jayne Kennedy in the role as Nubia

  • OMG I didnt realise she was WWs twin!!

Nubia would look great in a wonder woman outfit

  • great response & all correct but remember Nubia is turned away from her hatred of Wonder Woman by the end of the story. The toy Co. took advantage they used the same head mold for both Nubia and WW they were twins and why Nubia was chosen for the line. This only shows a few secs so you can't explain Nubias whole story but looking just at the commercial I can see how it looks pretty bad to those who don't know her story. I loved these dolls as a kid but I had the comics and knew Nubia was good

  • i love wonder woman doll the best thankue!

  • Nubia is a BABE...

  • I'M ADDRESSING ALL OF YOU NAIVE FUCKING INBREDS WHO REFUSE TO FACE THE FACT THAT RACISM DOES EXIST & WILL CONTINUE TO! SO AS I'VE SAID WHEN A ASS WIPE SAYS SHIT LIKE 'who would want that Nubia doll' WHAT'S THE REASON FOR THAT THAN THE DAMN OBVIOUS 1?!?! SO WHEN YOU CYNICAL FUCKERS STOP BEING RACIST THEN PERHAPS THIS SO CALLED 'RACE CARD' WOULD NOT EXIST, BUT THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE RIGHT! CARRY ON.

  • ew. you are ew.

  • pussy-pirate you can eat shit & die!!!! Fuck any of you inbreds who my posts applies to! Die!

  • i want a Nubia doll. shes hawt!

  • Yeah I know this krakken, Nubia is that exactly & no one on here or any where else is going to change that!!!! Yeah I said! Thanks!

  • judging by your potty mouth doll face, i dont think you are Still mature enough to play with dolls. you need to have your mouth washed out with soap and sent to bed with no dinner. As for Racism .ususually its people like yourself who create it.

  • Seeing how you claim to know the demeanor of every poster that you disagree w/ further proves you are ignorant! Besides stupid you are the 1 who admittedly named yourself A PUSSY, therefore that's exactly what you are & a filthy 1 @ that! As for Nubia (the doll) she's wonderful - now go & play w/ your toys & bet you are a coward ass racist... Hm I bet it sucks to be a shit like you!

  • i think you just pissed on your own foot doll face. you seem to think you know my demenor and you are wrong. im not racist , but i dont use a potty mouth on an all ages website, and as a i said its people like yourself who create it becuase of all the unnesseary hysteria you generate OVER racism starting with DOLLS. ending with the forbidden N word. focus on the real issues, there are ppl black and white pissing on the streets in USA, while we spend trillions bombing innocent -iraqis. go figure

  • read the comic- its great!

  • Love it!!!

  • Thanks for posting this sideshow, nostalgia setting in heavily. *Only a ass-sucking bigot would ask 'who would want Nubia', my question is who WOULDN'T want her?!?!

  • I would definitely buy her for my girls! Too bad they don't make Nubia anymore. Toy companies like Mattel, Hasbro and others should reissue this doll.

  • Thanks for your honest/mature response 'mrmoore', & I agree... Why the hell did they ever stop producing "Nubia" in the 1st place (other than for obvious reasons)?!?! She will be worth something in about 30-50 years later. Wish that I could have 1! The very fact that we're having this conversation proves that most of those bastards in charge has no fucking taste! I mean clearly!

  • you can get all these dolls on ebay.

  • there are lots of instances in commercials of racism. Very interesting. Lets love one another.

  • Yeah, that really is racist.

  • thats some racist crap!! Why does "Nubia" have to be the foe?

  • Nubia was the foe in the original comics, she was the Amazon gone bad...Kinda like Demi Moore in Charlie's Angels movies LOL

  • @Defensewhiz no she wasn't she was the baby that was stolen by mars and taken away to live on a floating island.she came back to get the title of wonder women and beat Diana.the queen later relieved what had happen in the past but Nubia left before she could say any thing.she went back home to her island where mars regained control over her and wanted her to kill ww but ww stopped him and told Nubia the truth.Nubia is the upgraded version of wonder women.but their still sisters.

  • I can't stand people who yell the race card over any damn little thing. Grow the hell up!!!!!!

  • I'm supposing to give Wonder Woman a female enemy to fight.

  • Damn it, Major Steve Trevor ain't a very good soldier, is he?.

I mean he always needs Wonder Woman to rescue him LOL.

  • cool

  • I still have these dolls

  • I had THAT doll hehehe

  • isn't this racist look at the bad guy or women or girl whatever

  • In the original comic, she is Wonder Woman's sister, but she was kidnapped and raised to be her nemesis.

  • thanks for the info i dont know mush of ww but does she really fly or is that the new version

  • Wonder Woman couldn't fly in the original comics, but she could glide on currents of air, and so could Nubia. I think Wonder Woman can actually fly in present day comics, but Nubia can't.

  • did u know ww was made up by a psycologist

  • Yeah William Moulton Marston .He was a femanist theorist, inventor and based Wonder Woman on the two women he shared a polyamorous relationship with he was an amazing man.....

  • Also an interesting fact....Wonder Womans Lasso makes people tell the truth , and Marston was one of the first people to develope the polygraph test...He also wrote alot about bondage and submition

  • sorry! * Submission*........

  • WHAT YEAR WAS THIS?

  • The show that these dolls were based on aired 1976-1979, so I would guess these dolls were released sometime around 1977-1978.

  • Nubia looks like the actress Jayne Kennedy who was popular during that time. Gina Torres would make a perfect Nubia if that character was used in the movie-if it ever will get off of the ground.

  • I agree 100% - a pity the nubia character was never developed to her fulliest potential she could have been Wonder Womans Greatest Nemesis/or Ally- when I was growing up I wanted to see Jayne Kennedy portray Nubia - Now If they eeever get this Wonder Woman movie off the ground I think Gina Torres should play Nubia-

  • I think Nubia is georgous...I just don't think she should always be the bad girl. May be she should spank her!

Apparently, Major Steve Trevor (the doll) is not an enabled guy!

From what I can remember the Deluxe Edition for his doll had a small emasculation kit! LOL

  • I'm so happy to see this comercial , i have this doll and its great ... so much THANKS!!!

  • FYI In the 1970's DC comics, Nubia was Wonder Woman's long lost sister. At first they were foes but soon became best friends.

  • I can attest to that. I HAVE the comic where they do become friends.

  • Ever hear the phrase "black Irish"? Its nothing to do with Africans but rather Irish people with dark hair and eyes rather than the acceptable red hair and blue/green eyes. "Black Irish" were considered lower than the rest of the Irish. I guess in the absence of minorities we whites then turn on whites to feel superior to, LOL.

Its not that the villain happens to be black that is objectionable, its the fact that the only black woman in the series was a villain.

  • tomte1978 You make me smile. If Greeks in 1941 weren't considered "white", what were they then?

  • Greeks were twilight, like Italians they changed their names and assimalated. Read 'Whiteness of A Different Color" and you'll see how 'dark' people from Southern Europe were considered in the US once. I like this old school stuff just not the values. These dolls are great!

  • yeah but its the bad guy or girl

  • Why does everything have to be racist? Do I call my neighbor 'racist' because he/she's got a black Santa Claus in the front yard? No, because I DON'T TAKE IT OVERBOARD, like a lot of people do. It's a fucking toy.

  • yeah but its the bad guy

  • I'm black and I would have loved to play with Wonder Woman... the real one, not the doll... :)

  • major steve trevor is dying under that debris and he is getting squished but instead of helping him. she is standing there with nubia all tied up. anyway this is one cool toy

  • the RC cola commercial from 74 has a white girl giving a black man a sip of her rc cola on a boat. and hes rowing. One could see that as racist or a big step forward.

  • I see nothing racist about a black girl playing with a black doll. I'm perverted, so I would play with the Wonder Woman doll take her clothes off and make her do the splits. What would be more stupid is if a black girl were playing with the white doll, because it would be obvious the producers weren't trying to look racist. PC sucks, I'd rather have reality!

  • I'm just loving being able to see this old commercial. That's why the 70s was a better time. No one would be having these ridiculous conversations. When we were kids we just played with our damn toys. I had WW and Cher, and my brother had those KISS dolls, remember those?

  • I see nothing racists about a young black girl playing with a black doll, I am Greek, so I would play with the WonderWoman doll, I would obviously want to chose the doll that was most like me, it's just more fun...I see nothing racist in that.

  • Its no secret that kids choose dolls (action figures) that they can identify with. The name "Nubia" is cheesy, sure, but we are talking about a 1941 COMIC BOOK CHARACTER LINE!!! WonderWoman was Queen of the Amazons, so she's Greek which in 1941 was often considered "not white" anyway. She was a strong female character (why are people not noticing that WonderWoman saves Steve Trevor.. what a breath of fresh feminist air before people even talked about feminists!).

  • I think it's funny. I don't think it's racist. If I was black, I'd play with the black doll too.

  • I guess it's okay cuz the boy was playing with Steve Trevor. And I guess it's okay for the black girl to be playing with a black doll? who the hell cares?!? Just play with a toy, a toy's a toy! hehe

  • Wunduh woman howeee

  • Beneath that uniform... oohhhh, man!! Lynda Carter was one hot mama!

  • I'm surprised no one has said anything about the boy playing with dolls... er.. I mean action figures.

  • Thank You! Ya hit on the nose! I mostly identify with the boy playing with the doll-LOL.

  • Its funny you say this , because back in 79 when I was about 4 year old boy, I saw this WW toy in a shop and begged and begged my mum to buy me it , but she wouldnt as she knew my dad would FREAK at me having a doll.....This doll would have made my childhood !!!It came with a navy uniform FFS!!!LOL.....

  • @sideshowcarny Don't try to defend that shit, that was a DOLL! Plain and SIMPLE!

My BIGGER question: WHY was "Nubia", her "Super Foe", a SISTER?! I don't REMEMBER her having any Afro-decended enemies, and I was a fan of that show!

  • If one was conditioned to see racism in everything then yes one can see racism here. Yes, it is pretty corny that they have the black girl playing the black doll. Yeah, that's out there. However, is there anything wrong with a black villain for WW? Should her nemisi only be white? Wouldn't that be racist? A black woman can't be pissed at WW? Nubia is stereotypically "black" name, yes, but not racist. All that aside, that Nubia doll was pretty damn cool.

  • Nubia?? That's mighty white of them isn't it.

  • It's only racist if you make it that way...I just see 3 kids playing with dolls ..but I guess that would be too easy.

  • LOL did you guys see how racial that advertising was LOL We did'nt even know it was going on bad like that back then LOL. But still it brings back memories...

  • "Nubia"? They could so NOT get away with that now!

  • "Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor and Nubia doll sold separately."

Bit o' racially charged dollmaking there huh?

  • I love the way they gave the black kid the "Nubia" doll haha

  • WOW!! I remember that!! Thank you for posting this. I added it to my favorites. It was a pleasure watching that.

  • I want that Nubia doll. Great commercial.

  • Doesn't if figuer, NUBIA, wow what a world.

  • she is from "Nubania"
