  • how can anyone say that portishead isn't one of the most sophisticated music creators of our generation? we are not comparing them with pinkfloyd, led zeppelin and janis! this people started performing in 95'. what else is out there except radiohead and some others/ Gibbons ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • very beautiful. with a better and more dominant rhytym section, this would have been a masterpiece.

  • Fuck*ng amazing.

  • I've only just gotten into Portishead, and something I've noticed is that they have a LOT of fucking band members. I think I counted like, 7. Three of them could just not be there and this song would sound the same.

Not hatin', I just don't get it.

  • @Burninghay I find your comment to be equally perplexing. Not even sure how to respond, specifically.

  • @Burninghay you clearly are an idiot.

    Not hatin'

  • portis y radiohead has nothing to do with, they are soo diferent why the conparation??, they are both good in their diferent way.

  • poesia pura.saludos salvajes caballos blancos

  • that studio coda was superb - damn i love their music.

  • i couldnt agree more Portis...them 'Massive Attack'-'Morcheeba' even DIDO live from Brixton Academy give me chills.I'm a drummer who's band 'Mindzeye' play alot heavier music but I'd LOVE to find some musicians to do some melodic 'ambient' rock so to speak.Ive started my own stuff called 'Guided Imagery' that I hope will attract other musicians to come on board so I can take it out live.

  • Was Good The Trip

  • ilove Portishead...

  • love this song. wish it was radiojead song. they would play way better

  • she knows..the pain n she sings from the heart

  • @malura40

    Thank you SHE KNOWS exacly

she could feel more than everyone here,

she feels so much of one emotion that it exile's every other feeling and just makes the one she was allready feeling ten times stronger and in this case sorrow apathy and well white horses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take us all away but i agree with you i love her so much she makes me the meloncholy person that i am.

personally if i did not have her i would brake down ambled and feel nothing at all!!

  • Beth Gibbons and Thom Yorke should do a song together.

  • thank you

  • strengthy as a cavalcade!

  • Portishead = Awesomeness.

  • I have so many images running through my mind, and all these emotions take over me when listening to them. Portishead will always be one of my faves!!!

  • antes de este video, ví el de arcade fire haciendo un bochinche enorme.

esto le pasa el trapo magistralmente.

  • That synth sound starting at 2'11'' is the most organic and best produced electronic sound of the early 21st century.

  • @ventouse oh ok. Thanks for putting is straight on that one.

  • Nothing but aural sex.

  • I really love this live version. What a band.

  • qué placer tan enorme descubrir esto...

  • mmmm..ponme a pel de pita!!!

  • I cried to this song 4 times in the past hour... I think it's safe to say they captured raw emotion and delivered it flawlessly.

  • Nicely put!

  • This is one of the most beautiful things I've heard.

  • Why does their singer always look in pain?

  • what do u expect from beth ? this is portishead ! meant to be like this take it or leave it mother fucker !

  • because it makes for better tone production uf you concentrate on each and every note. the result is a look of anguish of pain.

  • listen to the lyrics

  • @rockinlz2 jo

  • jpréfér thom yorke ow! casse twa pov fille...........

  • chill out mate

  • haha that made me chuckle

  • beth gibbons is amazing live. and this is the most beautiful song. Sad yet so true

  • This is pure art to me. Better than a poem or a painting or anything else.

  • You mean you prefer music...

  • @Portishatoday

I agree but more than art its self more than any feeling ever felt!!!!

BEYOND WORDS and beyond ourselfs to relate!

I could linger in her thoughts and not even give a damn to ever feel a single smile perhaps shine onto my blackened lungs agonising smoke forever SORROw

  • @Portishatoday poems and painting is not a pure form of art? the fact that you can compare art to art is pretty bold of you. Pretty dumb to be honest actually. Great song by the way.

  • @babaoriley8 I was not comparing art to art as general concepts. It was a subjective comment (like all comments): first of aIl, I do prefer expression of feelings and state of mind through music to poetry or painting (I am entitled to preferences, right?). And second, there are several kinds of music. This is one of the best, emotion and sensitivity delivered in the most artistic way possible.

  • @Portishatoday well said man.

  • @babaoriley8 he said to him/her it is pure art and to HIM/HER it is better tahn a poem or a painting.

pretty dumb of you to call the opinion of somebody dumb

  • @BSATheReApEr plz. dude we all have opinions and none of them really matter. I'm just sayin you cant compare art to art. But as portishatoday made clear he was not comparing, just expressing the feeling that it brings him/her to listen to an amazing song like this it reaches in places that other art forms cant.

  • @BSATheReApEr "I was not comparing art to art as general concepts. It was a subjective comment (like all comments): first of aIl, I do prefer expression of feelings and state of mind through music to poetry or painting (I am entitled to preferences, right?). And second, there are several kinds of music. This is one of the best, emotion and sensitivity delivered in the most artistic way possible." No thats what he said, dumbass, read the response he gave me.

    Portishatoday 2 weeks ago

  • @babaoriley8

all art is the same its just the medium that is difference, painters use paint, musicians use instruments, but its the same, its about creating something that allows the person to express themselves. distinctions are irrelevant

  • @SuperSimonuk That is utter crap. Unreflective, anecdotal shit. All art is not the same in the slightest, and you have made the most vulgar of reductions.

  • @stillceaser You must be a puritan...and i think you have missed the point I made.

  • @SuperSimonuk Not at all. I am no 'puritan' as you put it, but then what exactly do you mean by puritan if you are misappropriating the term? I just think your answer was anecdotal and ill considered. I don't really think you knew what you meant. If you actually engaged art then would not make such vulgar reductions.

  • @stillceaser Well as you said.."you think" what you have done is expressed is an opinion, not a fact. I also presented a point of view, i dont expect you to agree with me, but i dont really care if you do or not.

  • @Portishatoday all music is art..

  • @TenderHistoryInRust

    All art is art....

  • Is it Lost's Daniel on the percussion?

  • Titre lancinant et superbe qui, par certains égards, rappelle les grandes plages hypnotiques de Archive. Splendide voix que celle de Beth Gibbons qui oscille entre fragilité et gravité. Extrême sensualité...

  • I still remember watching this performance on tv and being mesmorised.

  • Good song. i cant wait for them to play in austin again.

  • Yeah, it sure is.

  • pure sweetness

  • utterly mindblowing

  • Singing like this is making love with the entire audience...I'm not saying Beth's a wh@@e, I hope it's clear :-)

  • nice post. brilliant live edition.:):) check out some of my portishead-esque originals..if u please..thanks for your time.

  • Beautifull! Beautifull!!!

  • yeah, that's terrific music. Portishead are some fine artisans.

  • With a heart broken... I must truly admit... as a great Radiohead fan since 1994... the original version of 'The Rip'...

...is far far better than Thom's... Long live Portishead.

(Still love you Thom E. Y.)

  • I think Thom's version was never meant to be better than the original, I actually rather see it as a tribute to another set of great musicians of a very similar nature to that of Radiohead

  • Yeah, you're absolutely right about that. I never said they aspired to be better than Portishead. I realize they just sat down and gone unplugged without any rehersal or else. I mean Thom always gets me on my knees even if he's not making a big performance but this time Beth did that :)

  • I'm sorry to say that... but I cannot believe Thom could ever say anything like that about Portishead. Maybe it was Kid Rock? ;) Not Thom?

  • What did he supposedly say??? I was under the impression Thom respected Portishead. Him and Johnny have a cover of this song on Youtube.

  • Read again.

  • My favourite one is a song called The Rip and then theres one at the end which sounds exactly like that old 70s band Silver Apples - just mental. - Thom Yorke, 28 April 2008. He definitely did that for pleasure, not to prove anything. I think he just loves the song. That's all.

  • Holy moly! This is the best song off the new album, and this is a mystically incredible version!!!!! This song feels ancient and alien, but comforting.

  • Que hermosa mujer.

  • fuck me...this is amazing! beth's voice is haunting. Is she using some kind of filter? sounds like an old micro

  • it is want they call a "warm" microphone.

  • inkia cche bbellu...

  • one of the coolest songs 2008 :-)

  • one of the few real musicians left

  • goony goo hoo

  • deberían de venir a guatemala yo los acojo con gusto, desde que salieron a relucir en mtv mandé a traer un disco de ese grupáso desde entonces tuve la tarea de enseñárselos a los que pudiera y lo logré

  • Completely devastating.

  • this song gives me an undescribable feeling.

  • Every Portishead song grows onto you and it chokes the living life out of ya. Nothing gets me out of my head as Portishead. After ive listened to Portishead i feel paralysed and numb.

  • I like Portishead, but bleady hell, get a fucking life will ya.

  • I can't express in words how much I love Portishead. Every album is brilliant!!

  • Simply Sublime...

  • portishead...is one of the few "original" artists of our time...think about it they have a serious education when it come to classical, electronic, and jazz.i would kill for a musical repritwar that they have

  • @alucardisdumb repertoire ?

  • @Thundermonk99 nah bro "rep pi twar"

i dont even have to use real words. ;)

  • i hear a bit of cocorosie in this

  • Or do you hear a bit of Portishead in cocorosie?

  • wow!!! amazing & fabulous !!!, i hope they come to my country !!!

  • Wicked!!!

  • i think making incredible music is easy - its just finding people who have the same mindframe as you - people who can make you have made better and then you again make it better - feeding off each other

  • man i totally agree with you

  • playing the guitar for this song is like Heaven.

  • i want to marry the vokal

  • ÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁÁ

  • lol....well if you look at the myspace page there biggest influence are the wurzles.....can really see the combine harvester coming through here!

wonder if radiohead are inspired by the bonzo dog doo da band?

  • Dumbass

  • Umm... it's a POrtishead original, covered by Radiohead

  • weird fishes?

  • Radiohead love this song and did a cover of it. It's silly to act like they're in competition with one another.

  • Totally agree

  • Why do people bother with the who is better?

    Radiohead - Awesome

    Portishead - Awesome

    Nuff said...

Who would win in a fight... now that's a question worth asking!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs from the latest album. It makes me think of being under a blanket by a window on a snowy day, smelling the scent of burning dust as the furnace kicks on.

  • I know exactly what you mean.

  • Love it

  • This band wants to be KISS apparently.

  • hahahaha

  • Idiotic, Portishead have always had "synth" music involved with them, and Radiohead started as a guitar based rock band. It was only really with Kid A that the whole synthesiser stuff started with them, but I am sure Portishead have always used synthesisers, I wouldn't compare the two. They both have different and unique sounds. This song is really great, I wouldn't always put the "drug" spin as a meaning to anything with dreamy words. It could be about anything if you listen to the lyrics.

  • this song rules. it has to be either about death or drugs. i think its about death.

  • This song is fantastic. My second fav on third...My favorite is Small that beat is so sick :)

  • they are pretty close to radiohead...considering Radiohead played this song.

  • This band is better than radiohead.

  • dont fool yourself

  • different bands.

  • You people are idiots...there are no comparisons between the two if your familiar with both bands...

  • We can see then that you don't know really what you're saying.

  • "this band wants to be radiohead apparently"

Portishead formed in 1991, "Creep" came out in 1992 - in other words, both bands came up more or less at the same time, more or less out of the same music movement. Both are great bands who push the boundaries of music and create great art.

  • Yeah, what are you talking about?

  • are you gay?

  • what the hell

  • what are you talking about??

  • Its ironic that people think portishead wants to be like radiohead when the radiohead´s music in its evolution has become similiar in SOME aspects to Portishead´s sound. However they are so diferent yet...

  • And so great!!

  • another odd aspect to that theory (that being that portishead want to be radiohead), when they released dummy, radiohead were still doing alright alternative music (see pablo honey)

  • Yeah that's right...

  • ...when portishead released "dummy", radiohead were doing ussual brit-pop. there was many similar bands in 90th years. but now the both of bands are the most interesting in the whole world. because i'm truly thinking they have got a crazy vision of making music. radiohead's having it since 1997, portishead - since 1994.

  • yeah, i mean i'm not putting down either bands, they're both amazing, i'm just merely speculating that the theory that portishead want to be radiohead isn't true.

  • I respect the fact that, instead of putting out something half-way decent, they took the extra time to make a great album. Too many bands make pre-mature records and end up ruining their sound. It's too bad the industry treats musicians like cash machines and pressure them to put out material.

  • aca de fallecer mi perrita lluego de 8 años en una escena muy dolorosa.. aun lo estoy asmilando.. y escucho esta cancion... no se..

  • best song in history pwnage love the album

  • Fanatastic -- Thought I'd had it with Portishead. Wrong! Clive Deemer swings baby!!

  • Adrian and Geoff said in an interview that the music they've played on the new album is just an extension of the music they played before. Their sound has slightly changed, not the rest. And you can't say you dislike that one tune in the video...

  • FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No me acaba de convencer el final con bajada de volumen.. pero aun así es la mejor canción del disco, junto con Magic Doors.
