I can't believe how much i love traditional animation. Seeing things like this just raises my hopes to become an animator one day and bring back wonderful and wonderfully animated cartoons again; bring back the sentiment in actually animating and not just cheaping out and making someone else do it!
This is absolutely great!! I love to look at this pencil-tests because you can clearly see what is really necessary for the creation of real emotions!
it depends on the frame rate... most animators use 12 fps, in which case it would be about 120 frames, but if they inbetweened and did 24 frames per second, it's be 240 drawings...
Actually, most animators use twenty-four frames per second, so that would be two hundred and forty frames. Numbers don't matter, though; it's the drawings themselves that we care about.
hey i got a question, going by what you have stated then 9 seconds of film woould be equal to 108 frames, 12*9 right?and on 24 fps it would be 216 frames am i correct?
oic then thanks for explaining that to me because our teacher never did therefore my animations went by EXTREMELY fast,I didn't realize that there were mathematics involoved with animation, but it does make sense.
Although there are 24 frames per second for the vast majority of feature animation, that doesn't necessarily mean that there are 24 drawings each second. In this shot the majority of Doppler's movements are relatively contained. In scenes like that, an animator can use a drawing ever other frame (12 drawings a second) and still have good results. Thats most likely the case for the majority of this video.
But I've also heard that Disney largely requires its animators to animate on ones because it achieves a smoother look. Just putting that out there. ^^
The studio really pushes for that during the second golden age and today, but during Walt's reign of terror, he tried to minimize the amount of ones because it could quite literally double the amount of work down the line. You are quite fantastically right. Ones almost always looks better than twos. (the reign of terror thing is a joke :).)
I laugh every time he swears. [/immature] Dr. McCoy references for the flippin' win! XD And the drop dead fantastic animation owns on so many levels as well~
