Do you have an opinion on the double shot trick? Also, do you know you can do it on (I would think most) emulators without much trouble? :)
I personally enjoy it, because it is more like an option to mode 1 only than a full blown cheat like the Game Genie would allow on later systems. (not that I am against game genie, it made hard games fun for us when we were kids ).
Just wondering. Nice play, very paced and relaxed.
This is one of the best game in atari the grandfather of all game consoles. I love it.^^ Thanks Riki9999 by the way what is your record score in one player mode
i could easily make a game like that, and then make the guys shoot back, and give special power ups, and allow the ship to improve over time. Its a good-basic game i guess
I heard there is a story on the creation of Space Invaders. It´s like this... the game was creatd in the middle of Cold War (USA x URSS), so the creator (an american) said the shooter represented the americans and the russians were the space invaders.
that explains it, atari rushed all of their arcade ports because they were huge sucesses. but when the final version was released then the game itself wasn't even worth buying. was the same true with all other games?
Often, yes, especially in the case of Coleco (although some of their games were actually fairly playable). According to AtariAge's profile on Coleco, some people thought that Coleco deliberately made bad 2600 ports so buyers would get a ColecoVision.
A simple Google search for "atari 2600"+rushed revealed some Wikipedia answers to this question. Atari seems to have rushed their Atari 2600 games. That would explain why Pac-Man and E.T. were spectacular failures. One of many factors causing the video game crash of 1983.
The Atari 2600 market was pretty chaotic, with everybody trying to make and sell their game, regardless of quality (Except for Activision, which actually seemed to care about its customers). I'm surprised that most of the Atari 2600 games are actually quite playable.

I wish YouTube would go beyond 30fps. This isn't the only game video where strobe-flickering stuff comes up invisible.
My ship gets hit at 2:37. Obviously this wouldn't happen if the invaders couldn't shoot back! XD
riki9999 3 years ago
yeh you can even see the shields getting damaged by the invaders shots..

Oh pff - they didn't even shoot back! Try doing this on game 16! Definitely NOT easy!
In fact, here's a challenge: Just beat levels 1 through 3 on game 16. That's it.

Rock on! XD
There are no 360, PS3 or Wii titles (other than Virtual Console stuff) that interest me. DS and PSP are a much different story though. XD

How come they don't shoot back? That makes it easy.

The enemy shots flash and flicker, but the movie's frame rate is too slow to pick them up.
