I'm learning French, yet I find that djudeo-espagnole (aka Ladino) sounds similar to French. This could essentially be "Spanish for Francophones". Thanks et merci très beaucoup to bingo1941 for uploading this. Which Abraham Ferrera recording is this from?
@Dan1988A like french? i'm spanish and despite a few words I understand everything...i just dont see the french similarities, if you could explain that :D
The similarities are somewhat obvious to me - there are sounds in djudeo-espagnole and certain idiosyncrasies in the grammar that remind me of French. If I were a native French speaker (of which I'm not) and if I were to learn Spanish, it would probably sound more like this. This would be even more the case if I were a native French speaker in Québec or l'Acadie. I can understand much of what he's singing, anyway.
Ladino es realmente español....un dialecto judio de la lengua española hablada en el siglo xvi. It´s a miracle they kept their mother language from Spain for 5 centuries...
@3rdSamurai Actually many still speak Judeo-Arabic. And Ladino is many understood by Cubans, and Puerto Ricans since their spanish is highly influenced by Ladino, and Ladino is very good language to learn since it is very close and older than modern classical Spanish.
I did the research today. Most of the older generation speaks it. It's an endangered language unfortunately. I think it should be revived in Israel, just for the sake of culture.
@3rdSamurai it's in danger but only in terms of use...but there is literature in ladino here in Spain and other places...so it wont be fully lost. It needs to be spoken more and more but modern communities have turkish, greek and arabic influences...so we can speak about modern ladino and old ladino kept in books in spanish libraries. i call for unification in order to get a purest and universal version...
