i know this guy at my school whos about my age (16) and all he does when he works out is he lifts weights for bout 3 hours b4 school then when he gets home he lifts weights for 3 more hours. i think thats too much for him because he is in pain every day he comes to school and im not sure how to get him to stop doing SO much. any suggestions on how i should get him to stop?
@floyd2010ify well you have to push yourself if you want muscles, you can't stop when you get tired or it hurts you have to keep going, try to complete the full rep if not then do as many as you can, then take ten second breather then finish the rest of the reps
@NWright95 1) yes but cardio is better 2) it will take at least 60min including warm up and cool down 3) you will FEEL the results. when you are going to see them depends on your body fat percentage, but you will probably notice changes within a month

@FransisXavier: Yes but for some people (like me) they are... I live 8km cycling away from the nearest fitness centre and while cycling is healthy too, I already do that on a daily basis. I prefer the exercises to be basic so I can do them at home without any equipment before I take a shower and go to bed :-) And last but not least: If you are a teen (see title of the movie) you often don't want to spend a lot of money to go to the gym, certainly not on a regularly basis.
i'll give this a try ^^. I've lost some weight in couple past months... dropped from 91kg to 68 kg :D but i think i lost a bit of muscle. So we'll be back after a month and i can report if this worked ^^
thats just bullshit lal you dont need any cardio to burn fat, yes if you dont want to spend money and have time than running a.k.a. cardio is just fine, though if you want to build on muscles + loose fat big time than doing workouts in the gym with weights is allways the way. Both are correct and both give you results. But fitness is for getting extreme power while cardio does not do that, exept for the legs and your breathing you will loose fat and weight but slower than in fitness.

yah you wont build strenght and put on huge mass obviously its more for burning fat and such while gaining experience with different excercices that will help you if you ever get more advanced into pro strength building routines

i've been doing weights and since all i got is 20 and 10 lb dumbbells but cuz they're light i used to do BURNOUT types of workouts... now i don't see any progress and don't see any strength improvements. Im Junior right now in Highschool and need to really keep up with studying. If i can't get the heavier adjustable dumbbell sets til later, then should i just do pushups and pullups +dips/crunches (Full body workout) 3 tiems a week?

@deniablefrog do cardio, but not walking, run as fast as you can on short distances, this will help you burn the little excess fat and reveal your abs
@jadan18 The workout is excelent anyway, fat skinny or in between, it will build functional strength which is a very good thing but if what you want is to lose fat you must do INTENSIVE cardio which for me is sprinting,by doing that you'll burn fat very fast and in adittion to that add some muscle (take a look at the sprint runners) instead of jogging that can take up to 50-60 minutes or more, this takes less than ten minutes. @deniablefrog I started lifting when I was 13. Somehow I gained 25lbs in a couple months but there wasn't a noticeable difference in my appearance. At the age of 13 and in your situation, I'd say the best thing to do is cut fat. This may not even have to do with working out, it's usually a dietary thing.
@jadan18 Nah, you can diet and lift or whatever you want at the same time. You see, what happened to me is I gained muscle density as apposed to more "poofy" mass that other people get. The easiest way to cut body fat is to reduce carbohydrates in your diet. You want to make sure you don't consume more than 100 carps per day (it really works). I know people who work out every day, but their poor diets keep them from having that noticeable muscle that other people have.
3 SETS of all that? You're kidding right? This is supposed to be a TEEN workout. There's no way a teen is able to to 3 sets of all that! That's insane!
you can make the elevated shoulder press even harder by doing handstand pushups. you can also do tricep dips with a chair by your feet to make them harder :)

@deniablefrog do cardio, but not walking, run as fast as you can on short distances, this will help you burn the little excess fat and reveal your abs

@jadan18 The workout is excelent anyway, fat skinny or in between, it will build functional strength which is a very good thing but if what you want is to lose fat you must do INTENSIVE cardio which for me is sprinting,by doing that you'll burn fat very fast and in adittion to that add some muscle (take a look at the sprint runners) instead of jogging that can take up to 50-60 minutes or more, this takes less than ten minutes. @deniablefrog my friend (14-old) did much of jogging and trained her abs 4 times on week and he got quite skinny in 2months (not quite activa trainning)

And I want to workout and get skinnier, and start to get muscles, but I reallyy want to get abs, because alot of people at my school in my grade are starting to get abs, and six packs! @deniablefrog I started lifting when I was 13. Somehow I gained 25lbs in a couple months but there wasn't a noticeable difference in my appearance. At the age of 13 and in your situation, I'd say the best thing to do is cut fat. This may not even have to do with working out, it's usually a dietary thing.

@jadan18 Nah, you can diet and lift or whatever you want at the same time. You see, what happened to me is I gained muscle density as apposed to more "poofy" mass that other people get. The easiest way to cut body fat is to reduce carbohydrates in your diet. You want to make sure you don't consume more than 100 carps per day (it really works). I know people who work out every day, but their poor diets keep them from having that noticeable muscle that other people have.

you can make the elevated shoulder press even harder by doing handstand pushups. you can also do tricep dips with a chair by your feet to make them harder :)

In my opinion i would do 3 sets then move onto the next exercise but it's totally up to you :)
