This is a wonderful performance. It has such clarity in its lines. And the reprise of the theme isn't played too fast like many pianists do (starting at about 3:00).
they say the straighter the pinky more fullsome the tone when it is carying this melody here- but thi sclarity in both hands is near impossible sounds so diff fromHorowitz.BOth INCREDIBLE!
Happy new year too, full of good wishes and good music! I sent the comment directed to you because of your former post of Freire´s Etude version: "No problem here". It seemed you were judging from a pedestal. No ofense, please, but there was very much more in his performance.
Sorry, if you can. I think I took you in a wrong way. Maybe because I love this version of Rach´s Etude... In Brazil we are somehow crazy of Freire´s playing. It´s something like passion for football. Unfortunately, I have no words to define how both things _football and Freire_ work on in our hearts :-) Best wishes. Julio.
I don't quite like this Etude, I think it is a little messy... but Freire can sometimes, in the middle of that thunders, play the melodie (that is beautyfull!) so wonderfully!
Piano playing before the era of large rubato - quite refreshing. Interesting that his hand position is so high over the keys. Not a great sounding piano, but the playing is very nice.
Interpret: above average.Quality of pianist:excellent..I did not say that only Volodin is gay, there are many proud pianists/in closet.Nothing wrong being gay, I`m one.Sometimes you can tell by looks and signs. Or by person.
Already a master even in his twenties. Superb Rachmaninov playing. Total control of the keys and nothing showy getting in the way of the musical logic of this great etude. Freire is a GREAT pianist.

Did you hear him play the Schumann concerto in Los Angeles? Me and a friend of mine had the privilege of witnessing him play it at the Walt Disney Concert Hall a few months ago -- beautiful concert.
No I've seen him play here in Brasília, I am brazilian too XD. He played with the Petrobras Orchestra with Isaac Karabtchevsky conducting. Really beautiful, and it was free...
