Plowright is not unlike Souliotis. Re the 1983/4 Otello CG voice is still pretty impressive for a tenor in his 60's

Craig and Plowright made a wonderful team in Otello. I have the recording.

Too bad it wasn't made a few years earlier while Charles still had his

wonderful tenor.

I remember the first time I heard a Suliotis recording on London records.

She was an exciting artist. I wonder how many people told her she'd

ruin her voice by singing heavy parts while still in her 20s.

She did too. But she switched to the mezzo repertoire. In the 1990s

she recorded Il Trittico for London w/ first class casts.

This is indeed wonderful.I saw Charles Craig as Otello many years ago at ENO with Rosalind Plowright as Desdemona - it was one of my first operas and I still remember it vividly
