if you put your leading foot more forward you wont get kicked back as hard. although this vid was from a while ago so i'd guess your probably another 30 pounds now anyways.
I was under the impression that it was illegal in Australia to own any type of firearm. What are the laws over there concerning private firearms ownership?
@VikingRaider793 You can still theoretically get most types of guns. In my state (Victoria) if you get a longarm licence you can get a shotgun (not semi or pump) and a rimfire rifle. To get a centrefire (non semi or auto) rifle you theoretically need to give reasons why you need it i.e. to shoot deer. To get semi-auto rifles or pump action shotguns you generally need to be a farmer and give reasons. Anything better is another category and very hard to get. Handguns are for competitions only.
Is that a CZ 550 "Safari" because I am thinking of getting one for NT Buff. One thing, how does it chamber/feed and waht mounts do you have/recommend. By the way, good video mate, and one lucky young fella.
@highlandparkdram It is a CZ 550 Safari. It's got Warne quick release rings and I also still have the iron sights on it for back up. No problems with chambering/feeding but the bolt was a bit "sticky" when new and required a bit more of a shove to close it, but cycling the bolt a number of times has smoothed it out fine. I understand the .375 H&H is used a lot on buff in NT. You can load single rounds, and load it upside down if the worst happens! Thanks for the comments.
Good job kid but the father should teach him the correct stance for shooting a rifle. We aquired our first 375 H&H when i was 14 or 15. A model 70 winchester. It wasn't a claw extractor model so it didn't really feed rounds that well. It didn't make my feet move at all because my father taught me how to shoot properly. Lean into the shot that way you will rock wiyh it instead of losing your footing cause your weight will be forward. Don't get me wrong they do have a nice kick to them.
@strummerlv My main concern in giving Chris a shot was that he did not get his face cut by the recoiling scope, which is why I took time to explain how he should hold it. On the other hand, how he chose to stand and how he felt the recoil was a good learning experience which did him no harm, and he now knows how to stand when handling such a calibre!
@Lurch1858 Good i am very glad to hear that..My uncle has a nice cresent moon scar from the scope on our 375. I hope the best for you and your son and you definetly seem to be on the right track raising him. Good luck to you guys!
There is no more powerful and addictive drug than love and involvement of a father with his sons and daughters. Its these moments, long remembered, that with a narrow path and high expectations will raise the sort of young men and women who will provide the stewardship of the Western world. Considering the assault our heritage, culture and way of life is now under, we will need those young men and women who know that honor, duty, country and family not only runs in the blood but is priceless.
If he can handle such a gun that well at 15 year of age, then Id say in a few years when he has finished growing, he should be able to shoot that gun like a champion.
Very nice son - you gotta love the .375 Holland & Holland. Only suggestion would be to lean a bit forward with that much gun, tuck it way in tight to the shoulder - this works also with .30-06 and other larger calibers - that way the upper body absorbs the recoil and doesn't throw off balance to the rear. Good on ya mate.
Hell the kick sent the boy back a good two feet and he still came back for more with a smile on his face. I kind of wished more children were like him.

It's awesome that he is encouraged to start using heavy rifles so early. I guess he'll be treating them like bb guns later on!

did he have whip-lash after that day of shooting? haha

@strummerlv for a lightweight 15 year old holding a 10lb gun they may have to lean back a little bit to keep their balance while holding it.

In my book your not a man untill you shoot the handgun i got, (Thompson contender 45-70) Then you are truly a man.

Nice job! Just widen your stance a little; placing one foot a bit in front of the other reduces the effect of the recoil.

Many a large man cringes at what your doing in this video, nice shooting! Love the .375 h&h excellent round
JtsGreene 2 years ago
Not bad! Keep your nose over your toes and your bodyweight will help control the recoil. :)
