Flaring on approach is just instant flare mode, but indeed, you shouldn't do it to much. And what most big aircraft do; above the runway flaring a little bit, and after touch-down they
pull-up and after a while they slowly drop the nose.
Nice work on your landings. Keep working on getting those touchdowns as close to the thousand foot marker as possible. If you can do that then your a really good pilot.
There is no "key" Flaring is the same as taking off, except the angle is MUCH less and your speed is at the appropriate area. It's basically the elevator trim
nice video friend, my problem at landings is nearly always to fast!!! but the good thing at it is that if i can see it imediatly i can just do a touch and go!!! and i try it again!!! ;)
a question: do you know the PERFECT speed for a landing???
you never mentioned timing for throttle pull at all in this video...critical in keeping a flare from becoming a landing attitude demo due to ground effect (assuming you fly in real life at all)
Keep to the right speed on aproach and the flare will be so much easier..if you come in at a greater angle you're too slow . if the plane goes up when you flare, you're too fast.. to know when to flare, keep your eyes on the horizon (end of the runway) and you'll have a better perception of altitude.. I know, on the simulator is more difficult because it's not 3D. keeping to the right speed is the key though.. get to know your aircraft and you'll be fine ;-)
@YagoRj357 no, if you need to use your spoilers just before touchdown it can be dangerous, the plane could drop fast and crash in the ground. If you are going to fast for touch down dont use your spoilers just before landing instead go around and try again and try to maintain a constant speed.
@aferguson182 for a smooth landing it is always better to flare, while descending to the runway you can however use your pitch to get you to the right speed.
Don't forget that conventional wings only fly well under a max angle of about 15 degrees.. you increase the angle of attack too much and they will stall as he said on the video..
Any bad flare in FS is forgivable, because FS does not give you all the visuals or sensory feedback to name a few that you need in order to properly flare. It's close, but not 100%. Any real world pilot will tell you the same. What counts is that you are practicing correct procedure.
@timothyngim It means you do not have the accurate visual perceptions of distance to name a few visual drawbacks nor can you feel what the aircraft is doing, etc. It's the equivalent of eating a food you can't taste or smell.
@RicardoNY1 Agreed. There are types of flying that can benefit from flight simulator (helped me by running through procedures for my instrument rating), but landing isn't one of them. Getting close to your touch-down point, bringing the nose to the horizon, feeling the plane slowly sink and gently bringing that nose up and washing off the speed, hoping you've brought it level just a few feet above the ground so the plane just kisses the ground... none of that (really) can be practiced on FSX
I´m not a professional pilot but I have quite experience in FSX, another recomendation to do a normal landing is put slowly the power into 35 to 40% then put the nose in 10 max 15 degrees, thats what I do and its seems good for me, just check the appropiate landing speed for your aircraft. by the way thanks for the video.
on 0:40 with the 747 with his ''to much'' flare thats how im always flying idk why but if im on 30K feet on a normale speed of 230/240 im always flaring...

hey your cool at this game i need to know how to line up with the runway im allso last and i have to make sudden turn this over streesed my aircraft ( boing 737 800 ) can you help
what i usually do that helps me a lot is come in sometimes a little bit faster than touchdown speed like in a 737 ill come in 150 then throw it to idle at the last couple feet above the runways and increase flare each time it starts dropping faster thts how i do it sometimes the best way is come in but make sure your not going to slow its better to go a little too fast than slow you can always idle it wen you nee dto if so or go around but if too slow well your screwed
i will post a video of my flares in a few days please check out my channel or subscribed or leave a comments my flare video will be on my channel thanks.
@ashfaquramin 100 feet per nautical mile = approximately 1 degree. So if you are on a 3 degree approach at 2 nautical miles then you will be at ~600 feet. Additionally, a 3 degree approach = 20:1 ratio (20' forward for every 1' down). In 'real world' aviation in a prop plane you'd be at around 500' on 1/2 mile final. Any lower and you wouldn't be able to glide to the runway if you needed to. Most pilots don't look at the altimeter though. Practice and you won't need it.
@sporealanw that is not a warning, these are normal call outs and there not available in the default aircrafts of fsx. I recommend VasFMC, google it. Its a fully working FMC and includes callouts.
@sporealanw well, the call outs are not available in the default airplanes of FS9 aswell :D so download the VASFMC! ;D it has call outs and its working with FSX and FS9.
@myplus18yearsaccount After touching down, only after, then the reverse thrust is available. so, after touching down long press F2 until you see the reverse thrust is fully engaged.
@KjandRhi What aircraft do you fly? If you go up when flaring you either have too much speed or you flare too much. If you flare too much you will go up a little then loose speed and stall. Use the prefered landing speed for your current aircraft (737/A321=135-140 kts, 747=150-160 kts) and flare just about 5 degrees
@ACIsrock Just because you can't see the end of the runway does not mean you are above the runway. If you look left and right you should be able to tell you're over the runway before touching down :)
question sometimes my plane goes flaring with autpoliot on you know om 30,000 hight 330 knots in a long flight he goes out hiself go flaring and then i go stall YEAH FINE 3 hours FLYING FOR NOTHING
about 2 3 weeks ago i was on jetblue flight 78 MCO-JFK The pilot landing in jfk flared right when we hit the ground the freaking pilot bounced off the runway twice and stalled the plane the 3rd resulting in A Very freaking hard landing Worst part of all he taxied off the runway at 45 knots. And he braked pretty hard.
@MrRockchopper1989. flaring is about the most appropriate and suitable altitude.attitude and speed in relation to ground proximity.forget buttons go-around and practice other wise you'll it'll sink hard right in you bum
@haoobpunk there is no freaking button to flare the aircraft! Why would there be!?. Do you think there is a button that just lifts the front of the plane off!?!?!?!?!?!?
My flaring technique is part of making a soft landing. I don't flare to simply get the rear down first, I flare to reduce the impact the plane has on the runway.
Doing it this way is much easier, it simply requires you to watch you v/s indicator during finals and changing your pitch accordingly. Obviously your approach speed is important, just check you kneeboard for stall speeds with flaps before your approach. Just stay about 10-15% over the stall speed and cut engines when over the runway.
i want to download Flight Simulator X,

i sometimes land alittle to soon, can you help me
ACIsrock 6 months ago
@ACIsrock Help yourself, try it over and over again. I don't land perfectly either but I keep trying :) good luck!
Deltapilot96 6 months ago
@ACIsrock Just because you can't see the end of the runway does not mean you are above the runway. If you look left and right you should be able to tell you're over the runway before touching down :)

a lot of your landings are either too low or too high. Or was that part of the video beside showing it

about 2 3 weeks ago i was on jetblue flight 78 MCO-JFK The pilot landing in jfk flared right when we hit the ground the freaking pilot bounced off the runway twice and stalled the plane the 3rd resulting in A Very freaking hard landing Worst part of all he taxied off the runway at 45 knots. And he braked pretty hard.

haoobpunk 6 months ago
@haoobpunk there isent a button for flaring. you do it manuely(correct me if iam wrong)
MrRockchopper1989 6 months ago
@MrRockchopper1989. flaring is about the most appropriate and suitable altitude.attitude and speed in relation to ground proximity.forget buttons go-around and practice other wise you'll it'll sink hard right in you bum
TheRobaroba 5 months ago
@haoobpunk there is no freaking button to flare the aircraft! Why would there be!?. Do you think there is a button that just lifts the front of the plane off!?!?!?!?!?!?
baleanua 6 months ago
@haoobpunk there is no button to make your plane flare it's all done manually with your joystick.
SIRUS84 6 months ago
My flaring technique is part of making a soft landing. I don't flare to simply get the rear down first, I flare to reduce the impact the plane has on the runway.
Doing it this way is much easier, it simply requires you to watch you v/s indicator during finals and changing your pitch accordingly. Obviously your approach speed is important, just check you kneeboard for stall speeds with flaps before your approach. Just stay about 10-15% over the stall speed and cut engines when over the runway.
