  • WOooowww... Holy cow..!!! thanks for sharing this video.. :)

  • wow!! that was awesome!

  • It's like God wanted them to stay on the ground.

  • Is this some kind of silly joke? Did NASA really release this crap video? Just asking - thanks for a kind reply.

  • Sweet storm.

  • Dont think the LORD Jesus Christ doesn't know what your doing.

  • haha...your name is man fluff...you fluff other men. Classic

  • Man that awesome to watch.

  • WOW!!

  • yeah so did i, i didnt like it when she had a bald head though!

  • Yeah, the lighting strikes are powerful! As you see in the video at the moment of the strike the interferences are very heavy and the videocamera is afected by the electromagnetic impulse generated by lighting strike. It almost deconects the camera.

  • did space shuttle died?......

  • ALERT...Earths upper atmosphere is dropping... triggering epedemic of disease, plane crashes,NASA hardships, increased violence, oxygen depravation and other things related... EL NINO effect has accelerated this began over Louisiana,California and Mexico ...see...The Day After Tomorrow.. .

  • i thought i was the only one. nice that you know too.

  • docks in 2 days

  • with what? another alien mother ship?...to unload more experiments to and fro?

    awesome stuffs!

  • russia's weather machine is working just great.

  • Im in the SE of Ireland and it looked like two objects crossing the sky,?

  • It had separated from the external tank, maybe this is what you saw? Was cloudy up north where i am, missed it.

  • Thats what I saw too! In Wicklow.

The tank and the shuttle above it!

  • I'm happy about it, but when will be the docking?

  • YES IT FINALLY LAUNCHED!

  • I believe that one day we will be able to control the weather on Earth.

  • Humanity vs. Nature: Nature wins again...

  • 5th attempt and still hoping.

    haha.

  • 5 attempt.

there will be less trips for you guys as 2012 nears.

enjoy knowing its the end of the world! YAY!

  • Comment removed

  • how about you, in 2012///useless moron.

  • nostradamus didn't predict the world would end, in the literal sense... he predicted that it would change, like a new world order or something. not that anyone with any sense would heed the warnings of someone who is millions of years old ;)

  • correct. the fat cats are finished, and they know it.

  • do you believe that?.

  • no.

  • didnt even hit it wow

  • Dont kid yourself.NASA is the best in the world.

  • Shocking!

  • Oh yeah, like anybody wants to be a cosmonaut. Do you even know that that metal rod the lightning hit was supposed to "catch" the lightning?

  • WoW HoW AmAzInG

  • Not really a problem, but wise to check if systems are running ok. As far as I heared, no damage at all.

  • They should have built a platform next to it a metre higher with a monkey trained to hold up an umbrella with a metal tip and have other monkeys trained to run on and pick up the umbrella if the previous monkey dies.

  • lol i agree?

  • Someone let Azula out of her cage.

  • houston we have a problem....

  • godophobe, its a fact that lightning tends to strike on elevated metal structures in a flat area during a thunderstorm...

  • this is why it's not safe to hold a metal rod on top of your house during a thunderstorm... lol

  • Irony paging P3dr08... are you reading me? Over.... silence....

  • 8D hah!

  • did it die?

  • I loled

  • Shocking video !

  • i like your comedy can i shag your face?

  • its not fake

  • It has been a month!!! since the first attempt!!!

  • THAT IS SERIOUSLY COOL!!!

  • Thanks again to Ben Franklin for the Lightning rod...

  • I luv Lightning storms their so awesome in 2005 their was a massive electrical storm here in Aus and and it was pretty cool even some had no thunder

  • orz.....

  • You think with the gazillion dollars they spent on the operation that they could have installed better quality cameras....

  • Hum? Where are we going to build a space shuttle launcher? In a good weather place? Of course not? Logically the best place must be a ridiculous stormy place...

  • Florida is used because it's the closest part of the east coast to the Equator. - East coast because they launch to the East, over the sea. - Equator because that way it takes less fuel to get to an equatorial orbit.

If that makes you think it would be better to be even closer to the Equator - yup, that's what the Europeans do, launching from Guiana, 5°N.

  • My grandma make another wafel again, yawn.

  • The weather was too bad for the Start of the Space Shuttle. The controller did the right way to stop the countdown. The astronauts had two days more of regeneration.

  • sry should have been clearer. i just meant coz of the state of NASAs ancient shuttles. i hink they have to stop being used really soon

  • Not to mention the money that you, as a taxpayer, would have to spend again should the shuttle be destroyed in the storm.

  • Pff, remember they are retiring them in 2010. They wouldn't have rebuilt a shuttle, just took his money and put it towards Project Constellation. Mm, love me some Project Constellation.

  • lol no wonder the yanks are falling behind ESA and the russian space agency

  • POOR

  • Is this what the American taxpayer is getting for their Kazillion dollar space program? The sound was great and the video right out of the 80's. I saw nothing out of the ordinary as for the behavior of lightning.

  • You can't launch into lightning retard, unless you'd like the lives of 7 humans on the blood of your so fabled taxpayer dollars.

  • Also! To add to your retardation, our space program receives 0.55% of your tax dollars. You can't assume that because it can go into space it's costing you, yourself hundreds of trillions of dollars. If you think about it, probably 0.0000000000001 dollars of yours actually went into the space program as a whole (which without, you wouldn't be using the computer to piss and moan on right now).

  • that would be because most americans taxes go towards their military, same with us british to much spent on the military very little on ESA. we've had 5 people in space all of whom had to be made US citizens beforehand. now ESA has a British astronaut im looking forward to seeing an astronaut with the union jack on his arm

  • All aircraft are designed to take it.. nice to watch though!

    nice job!

    5 stars from TheJapanChannel !

Check out our channel too if you have time!

  • They scrubbed the launch again today. I can just here the conversation.

    Astronauts: Can we go yet?

    NASA: NO

    Astronauts: Can we go yet?

    NASA: NO

    Astronauts: Can we go yet?

    NASA: NO...

  • lmao! thats jks

  • so this doestnt affect anything on the ship or communications between the ship and the control room?

  • its the tallest anything in the area, its designed to take umpteenmillion strikes.

  • umpteenmillion :O

  • The crew was not in the orbiter at the time these were taken, but they did cause the cancellation of the mission so engineers could check those parameters

  • can you repeat the first part?

  • no one died

  • dont think id drive/ride in that thing after it got zapped like 10 times by lightning.... o_o.

  • I have read about that they are using laser to create an ion channel, and the lighting is going down on that channel. WHY DONT THEY USED THAT LASER?

  • Great vid thanks NASA

  • Its cool to see the camera interference just prior to the strike, and if you look closely, you can see the base of the strike right in line with the base of the bad on the Right at the exact moment of the interference at .18

  • I can't believe how many open minds i am hearing.

excellent, you all must look at the night sky often....

i know i sure do, too much going on, to not

    these days.

  • The next launch attempt for the STS-127 mission is planned for 7:13 p.m. EDT Sunday, July 12.

    Good luck! ^^

  • had so much going on in my life and been some rough going

i had no idea this was going on

  • I don't think the aliens want more of you in their space.

  • "more of you"

are you not a human as well?

  • he considers himself a higher being xD

  • their? space is occupied by no-one but everything

  • Ahh,can you feel the swell and flow of the elements vs.technology.The elements so wide and all emcompassing.Technology,a frankenstein so precise.Neither accepting defeat.

Hey,Margolis,as soon as the lights come back on boot up the computer's wili ya?

  • If you look while the lightning hits the camera kinda messes up a little

  • do not launch sts127.

    -.-

  • It's official-god does not want the endeavor to launch :O

  • lol i'd hate to be on the sts-127 crew right about now. three aborts already, they have got to be a little jittery now for sure.

  • Wow crazy glad the shuttle is alright for hopefully tomorrows launch.

  • Wasnt this the same pad that Apollo 12 took off from?

Hope the damage wasnt too bad on the shuttle.

  • Wow..! You really get respect for the lighning, when you see something like this ! :o

I'm really stunned.. -I wanna say it's amazing, but it did breake something.. didn't it ?!? and that's not good..

-sucked that it hit Endeavour, so they had to delay it..

But I do like lighning, it looks so beautiful x)

  • I can't believe it, Endeavour's launch has been delayed almost a month now...

  • Get your facts strait please : NASA The updated weather forecast for shuttle Endeavour is 70% "go" for launch on Sunday at 7:13pm ET.about 6 hours ago from web

  • CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Space shuttle Endeavour's launch to the International Space Station has been postponed until Sunday to give technical teams more time to evaluate lightning strikes at the launch pad that occurred during thunderstorms Friday. Liftoff is scheduled for 7:13 p.m. EDT.

The Mission Management Team will meet at 8 a.m. Sunday to evaluate the latest data. Fueling of the external fuel tank is scheduled to begin at 9:48 a.m. Sunday.

  • amazing

  • awesome video! I love storms & space travel! This video is awesome LOL

  • So do EMR pulses from the magnetic field bursts from the low frequency waves.

Sorry, the physicist in me. Too bad, my buddy is there hoping to see it go off before he comes home.

  • need an electrician on this one maybe

  • 0:41 a lighning bolt strikes the lighning conductor on top of the space ship holder.

    how cool is that??

  • And whats cool is you realise the camera acts a bit funny the very moment the lightening strikes too..

  • I think that is in place so the lightning doesn't hit the spacecraft, am I wrong?

  • You are correct, but the lightning mast also protects the ET and SRB's.

  • It's a water tower in case of fire ~minneola24

  • It also hit the pad itself but it has a lighting rod
