Scary stuff...I grew up in WV but now live in the Southwest where we don't get snow. My Mom still lives in Welch, though and she told me all about the huge snowfall. Thank goodness you were driving a Highlander, don't know if a smaller vehicle could have made it as far as you did.
I got out of school early that day. went to the DMV in Beckley, then to Captain D's at the top of raleigh hill. started snowing while we were in Captain D's. Got out of the parking lot and got stuck right there. Traffic was at a standstill. We decided to just pass everyone and get on interstate. We started towards Ghent (i live in Shady Spring) Made it about 3 miles past the I-64 I-77 split, and hit another wall of traffic. stayed there from 4:30 PM Friday until about 9AM Saturday until
we were stuck out in this for eight hours! i have never seen anything like it. we got out of school early and my mom wanted to run out and get a few things at walmart. we saw two wrecks and saw 31 cars stuck from beckley to daniels. we were stuck on raleigh hill for almost six hours. it was insane!
umm... i don't want to sound like a douchbag, but thats an average day for us in the winter. A snow storm for us is when you can see 2 feet in front of you and getting 6 - 7 ft. snow drifts :S
Dude, my wife and I were driving from Newport News to Colorado that day. We made it Princeton WV by the grace of all brotha. Fcking semis sliding all over the damn place, people freezing to death on I-77. took us 12 hours to travel about 42 miles. We found some good ole boys to plow a path for us with 4x4s and got us to safety. Jack and Mickey, you guys prolly wont read this, but we'll never forget you. Prayers are with the families of those who weren't so lucky in this monster storm.
