The supermarkets steal off you every time you buy an apple or a loaf. Tesco are actively buying land all over the place, in preparation for wiping out yet more small businesses and retailers. They did this near me a few years ago after offering to put their own roads in and build volume parking for other businesses nearby.
The road they put in redirected traffic away from a dozen shops, four of which have now gone.
