Beware the Muslims! Don't upset them or their beliefs! If you want to talk about about a serious clash between religion and gay marriage, watch out for this one!
I am deeply confused. The video spends a minute talking about how important your own beliefs and traditions are... then goes to say being gay is not OK.
Yes, definitely. Homosexuals > religious people. Proud homosexuals > too superly overly religious people. (Well, I guess you could say any level of religion is "too superly overly religious," but still, you know what I mean.)
"The Church picks and chooses by what God picks and chooses. People are not choosing what God wants but God acts through people to tell them what he wants."
"How do you know what things are important and which are not?"
Science. Common sense. Not being brainwashed by religion. Things like that. Also, to reply further to your question with another question, how do YOU know what is important and what is not?
"It is contrary to the natural order to commit homosexual acts."
You don't choose to be gay. You're either born like that, or you're not. Homosexuality was not synthetically invented. Some births are just of homosexuals. It's always been like that. Sounds pretty natural to me.
I'm consider myself very lucky that I don't live in the US. Norway has its share of flaws and is by no means perfect, but at least everyone here is equal, independent of race, sex, religion and sexual orientation.
Wouldn't religious freedom then equally protect those who believe that homosexuality is okay? This argument just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Homosexual activity causes absolutely no harm to anyone. Lawsuits like those shown in this video may happen, but at that point it is the judicial system's responsibility. In the case of the refused artificial insemination, I personally see that as being akin to turning away black customers before the civil rights movement.
Consider the source for these allegations. WORLDNUTDAILY is about as factual as the National Enquirer's stories about alien babies or half human half bat sightings.
This is a rather perverse argument. Gay marriage certainly does not necessitate and "clashes" with religious freedom.
Prop 8 was about forcing religion onto people. Tom Paine and Thomas Jefferson would not have approved. Americans are lucky to have a secular constitution - in my country (Britain) our head of state is still head of church. If you're a "conservative" in America you should oppose religious legislation.
The passing of proposition 8 will probably prove FAR more dangerous to the religious right than gay marriage ever could. There is really no more legal precedent in California now to stop any simple majority from banning something from a group of people that has been defined as a constitutional right. Hell, you could probably ban christian marriage now, among other things.
RoseEEOE you're right. Someday this law may come back to kick them in the ass big time with a totally different issue regarding religion. They just might have their religious values and view put up to the vote of the will of the tyranny of the majority of the people. Karma can be a serious bitch sometimes.
"If a homosexual union is defined as marriage, every Christian, Muslim, and Jew will be open to legal persecution just for practicing their beliefs."
If you harass them, forcing your religious trash down their throats constantly, you should be sued!
What if there was something you lived your life by, that went against another's religion, and they forced their beliefs onto you? If you were protected, you wouldn't think it to be "persecution."
Our laws are secular - free from religion. Do we have to gain permission from ALL THE CHURCHES each time a law is passed to see if it lines up with their beliefs? We don't live in fricken Iran.
Well the "Talevangelicals" "Evangelical fundamentalists" definitely think we should live in a Christian nation just as much as the Muslim extremists and the Taliban think that Afghanistan and other middle eastern countries must be Muslim nations.
What do you think of the will of other people who disagree with marriage being defined between any two consenting adults? Someone is always going to be left out.
What if there is a religous person who believes it is ok to kill? Is it ok to protect the religious freedom of all to ensure that he doesn't get left out? Maybe there is a denomination of people who believe in polygamy? Of course, under religious freedom, not all religious people are going to feel included.
Should government have a say to change the definition of marriage in a Christian society (a highly Christian society, not fully) when marriage is a sacrament from God and not something created and protected by the state? For instance, Christians believe that man and woman come together and become one flesh. It is recorded in the Old Testament, by Jesus Christ in the Gospels, and in a letter from St. Paul. The definition of marriage to Christians is fully dependent on the gender of the person.
You can say that this is a "highly Christian society" .. which, in many regards, I do believe .. but you are still allowed to not hold Christian religious beliefs in this country. This is not the theocracy that people left Europe largely to escape
"The definition of marriage to Christians is fully dependent on the gender of the person."
Some Christians don't believe this.
BTW, who did God create hermaphrodites to marry? What about an XY male with female genitalia or an XX female with male?
It's true that there are Christians who don't believe that this statement is true. But, why believe in Christ and not be true to his word? A Christian accepts God at his word. Can a person be American and not believe in the Declaration of Independence? It's contradictory to follow Christ and be against his teachings, or misconstrue his teachings.
There are dozens of things in the bible as or even less vague/conditional that I am almost certain you do not follow (yet you demand this particular thing on everyone, not to mention other Catholics).
How do you know what things are important and which are not? Before Christ, Jews followed the law given by God through Moses. When Christ came, he said that he came to fulfill the law (of Moses), not abolish it. There are things that Christians are not held accountable for now that the Jews were accountable for. Paul argues in some of his letters (in the New Testament) against Jews who insist that Christians need to be circumcised. Christ fulfilled the law of circumcision with baptism.
"How do you know what things are important and which are not?"
The church picks and chooses, mostly, concerning the larger modern society. Some of it is "fulfilled" in the new testament, but much of it is not even mentioned. And that, of course, does not account for the shockingly disproportionate attention given to this topic and forced on even non-Christians (often, which is a huge farce, by people that have been remarried at least once).
The Church picks and chooses by what God picks and chooses. People are not choosing what God wants but God acts through people to tell them what he wants. God has promised this through the giving the Holy Spirit, that he will teach all things to us after Christ has ascended to the Father.
What do you mean by shockingly disproportionate attention? Is not Marriage a sacred institution blessed by and through God? We protect the meaning of Marriage just the same as the importance of Baptism.
"The Church picks and chooses by what God picks and chooses"
Well, perhaps what they interpret as to what God would want at any point in time. There are plenty of pretty direct laws they do not follow today.
"is not Marriage a sacred institution blessed by and through God?"
All cultures, even secular ones, have forms of marriage ... though I am sure this is your belief. Even within Christian marriage though, your focus is shockingly disproportionate and hypocritical.
@heroSaltenOspedale doesn't the bilbe say, that you should love every human being, and doesn't every human being include gays? stop being so homophobic. the gays don't hurt anybody. and who cares whether there are some gay married people? I mean a marriage should be about 2 people truly loving each other and wanting to live their lives together and raise a family, your faith shouldn't matter.
That's a good question about who God created people to marry. What about people who are born handicap and are not able to marry physically? Being created does not make anyone less of person, but being created with a gender is specific. It's hard to think that God applies gender in marriage and yet there are people with different genitalia. But, God cannot contradict himself, since he is Truth. So, really, hermaphrodites can marry people as long as their of the opposite sex. They would be chaste.
Well, the problem with many of those people is that you can't really say if they are one gender or not (at least physically, which is all you seem to care about). The body, brain structure, and genetics does not always match and/or can't be classicaly male or female)
True. Killing someone goes against nature, since it is natural to be alive. You could say that killing someone goes against nature's freedom to act properly. Ergo, committing murder contradicts the natural order and is thus illegal. The same can be said of homosexual acts. It is contrary to the natural order to commit homosexual acts. One might argue that in committing homosexual acts a person takes away the freedom of nature to act properly in procreation.
It depends upon what you call natural. By most meanings, its definitely 'natural' in not only humans but all mammals ... and not only that but serve a natural purpose (and seemingly has a quite natural and amazingly consistent cause / driving force).
Protecting the "religious freedom" of separatism by actually BANNING the execution of the religious beliefs of others?? Or is that banning itself on their religious grounds their claimed "religious freedom"??
lets see by using darwins theory, animals that form homosexual couples shall not be selected by the natural selection process, They shall become extinct. And in no way can someone come and tell you if people remain gay for a few million years, by evoltion they shall adopt to it because their race won't even perpetuate. Being gay is evil and against nature and steps need to be taken to stop it.
Just like having sex with other Aniamals is wrong (maybe thats the next things coming on) so is this.
ugh. you cant be serious. evolution dosnt apply to being gay because its not hereditary. how is being gay evil? how does it go against nature and even if it did who cares? its not like we follow nature.
and bestiality and homosexuality are two completly diffrent things, they have nothing in common
"evolution dosnt apply to being gay because its not hereditary"
Well, it appears to be about as hereditary as a few other things (like height). I don't think there is/are really a gay-gene(s) per say, but more of a disposition that may re-enforce the effects of other causes (be it hormonal, environmental, or something else) ... kind of like most things.
what I am saying is that if all people become gay mankind shall become extinct is this not enough to show what is wrong with gay.
Then if you say that being gay in this way is fine then lets see even having sex with dogs (and other animals) is 100% ok as long as the dog and the human agree to do it.
"if all people become gay mankind shall become extinct is this not enough to show what is wrong with gay"
OMG. That applies to celibate priests as well! We better stop those "perverts" too before humanity ends!!!
BTW: The ratio of homosexuals has appeared to have little changed, in any culture, for pretty much all recorded time regardless of their treatment. Its not going to happen, and even if it did, they can procreate just fine through surrogacy and other methods.
And on top of that, helping to provide ways of comittment and giving gay kids hope / models of comittment for the future isnt going to prevent homosexuals ... its only going to slow abuse, depression, and promiscuous lifestyles / temperments.
Sexual prohibitions (cultural or legal) invented western pornography and prostitution back in Victorian times, and it still promotes an underground world of sex here today.
there is a proper and an improper way of sexual activity. One leads to constructive effects on the society and the humanity as a whole over long term while the other does not.
There will always be some people in the society that can be considered as having improper behaviour for whatever reason over wide things but to call that as being normal is must plain sick. Right now you may say that a human going into a dog is plain sick and immoral but on pure secual grounds this is acceptable too.
There is a lot more to sex, and positives / reasons for sex, than simple sexual release / pleasure (which I am sure your viewpoint only applies to men anyway). If you don't understand this, then I feel truly sorry for you.
Besides this, If sex was ONLY for reproduction, our biology wouldn't be set up to crave or even allow it at the times in which it does. The function of the vast majority of it is bonding, which is FAR removed from most animals.
yes this does apply to priests as well and priests should stop being calibate.
Besides that priests are a few individuals of the society. what I am talking about is widespread homosexulaity. The reason why homosexuality is wrong I have mentioned it
"what I am talking about is widespread homosexulaity. The reason why homosexuality is wrong"
Homosexuality isn't going to get any more "widespread," only attitudes will change. There is no history, evidence,or logic to suggest otherwise and every couple reproducing is not an inherently good thing anyway (only about 40% of all humans in history reproduced, and our population is HUGE now) ... and homosexual couples reproduce fine (surrogacy) when allowed to by law.
"Then if you say that being gay in this way is fine then lets see even having sex with dogs (and other animals) is 100% ok as long as the dog and the human agree to do it."
Animals can't really "concent" to relationships like that, and you are talking about ANIMALS here ... its absurd that you are trying to relate human relationships to relationships with animals just because of a gender / physical difference you don't agree with.
pedophilia n. an obsession with children as sex objects. Overt acts, including taking sexual explicit photographs, molesting children, and exposing one's genitalia to children are all crimes. The problem with these crimes is that pedophilia is also treated as a mental illness, and the pedophile is often released only to repeat the crimes or escalate the activity to the level of murder.
The Father in heaven set up the family structure for people. (There was actually a lot of begetting in the Bible) Anyway in a marriage it is explained that two flesh become one, which is evedent when you understand sex. Male and female have offspring, whereas gays only pediphile and fag out. Satan confused one third of the angels of heaven, so its no surprise that people can be confused too. Gays should be quaranteed from children.
dude do you know what pediphile means? im serious what do you think it means? ok look can you give me ONE GOOD SECULAR REASON why gay marriage is wrong? because forcing your religion down others throats dosnt work.
lets see by using darwins theory, animals that form homosexual couples shall not be selected by the natural selection process, They shall become extinct.
God will accept them just the way they are but to remain a part of the church they must live the way God says. Many churches have lied to gays saying that it is okay to be gay, but on the contrary the Bible speaks strongly against gays and even against associating with them. Therefore indocrtinating children to accept gays is not only a pediphile act, it is also bad luck to have gays around.
dude im serious. get a dictionary and look up what pediphile means. look at what you're saying. how is telling kids thats its ok to be gay is a pediphile act. should we teach them to be intolerent?
Boys kissing girls on the playground in the second grade can get reprimanded and even charged with sexual misconduct, but if the boy were to kiss another little boy the teacher in order to indoctrinate the children to be acceptable of gays laughs and nothing more is said or done.
2nd graders getting charged with sexual misconduct? dude seriously.
ok first of both situations would be taken care of because its a P.D.A. (public display of affection). also i dont see how teaching tolerence should be called "indoctorinate" and they wouldnt allow a P.D.A. to go unpunished do teach kids.
I know it sounds bizare and even unbelievable, but when the truth is known it is stranger than fiction! Also, if a boy is bullied by 3 other bigger boys on a playground and he verbally threatens them that he might kill them, the victum can be charged with a terrorist act, as violence on school grounds can be considered a terrorist act.
It is very relavant because children are the future and if one or two generations are taught that Sodom and Gamorah is the way things should be and that the individual doesn't have the right to defend himself from oppression and weirdness I think society will have many more problems.
I consider indoctrinating children to accept gay behavior as normal is opression don't you? How about laws against everything natural and normal, don't you think that is oppression?
"I consider indoctrinating children to accept gay behavior as normal is opression don't you? How about laws against everything natural and normal, don't you think that is oppression?"
Probably not any more than them suggesting that people from other races/cultures/etc should be treated respectfully.
Exacatly! Marriage is betsween a man and a woman, whereas a homosexual union is not a marriage any more than bestiality or some other sick perversion.
It isn't about restricting, it is about choice. We have the right to choose a gay union or a hetrosexual marriage. Seems like the gays and their pediphile advocates are the ones pushing the issues being intolerant.
excuse me. gays have nothing to do with pedophilia.and dont you think they would be intolerent of others intolerence, you would, wouldnt you? .i just think they deserve the right to marriage
gays pushing gayness on under age children teaching them in preschool that gay is acceptable is pedephilia. Gays want gayness indoctrinated in the textbooks. Gays rape children. Seems to me gays have everything to do with pediphiles and should be quarantened.
A gay union beetween a child and a fag is not a marriage, but who knows why a pediphile does anything? I would say their urges drive them to do whatever they can get away with. If a man rapes an adolecent male that is a pediphile, it is also a pediphile if he rapes an adolescent female, but I think the males are less likely to tell. The girls might even boast, so they do males instead.
We don't need you're word interpretation; you need to understand that marriage is between a man and a woman, and a gay union is not a marriage. A lot of gays seem to want to live in Egypt (They are in de NILE; pretending to be straight etc. , and gays have a propensity towards weirdness and pediphile acts.
thats not my word interpretation thats webster's. gays dont pretend to be strait because they're in denile many pretend to be strait because of intolerent people like you. yes they look weird to you and thats your opinion and like i said before gays and pedophiles are completly unrelated.

In Matthew Chapter 22 (v.34-40), Jesus mentions the two greatest commandments: Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself. Notice in verse 40, he says that "On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets". When Jesus said that the first two greatest commandments are Love God and love your neighbor, he covered the full ten commandments that God had given in the law which he gave to his people by Moses. You break the two when you break one of the ten.
I am not a practicing Christian, or maybe I am, but I do see value in the scriptures even if it is tainted by the politics of ancient Asia and the Roman Empire. One thing we know is that the Council of Nice tossed some of the most important scripture because it was in conflict with the idea of a state religion. Jesus instructed that there be no new rites or churches, no evangelism. He said to go out and live the Two Commandments, to lead by example rather than force. Let your light so shine ....
I could never place anyone above my God. It's hard to understand that you have to lose the world to gain true life. Jesus said that he did not come to bring peace but rather division within families (Luke 12:49-53).
The council of Nice? Did you make this information up? Please, send me your sources (honestly).
It's hard to understand "Let your light shine before men" if you don't understand the light. The truth of salvation that God has revealed is the light. Jesus Christ is the light (John 1)
I am so glad that my parents weren't bigots. Gay people are a unique minority because the vast majority of our parents aren't gay. Even a black child with a white mother, has no fear of her mother finding out that she is black. As a rule, we are the only minority betrayed by our own families. It doesn't happen as often as it used to, and the man in this video might not turn out to be a bigot when he discovers that his son is gay, but he will have already harmed that son by his vote for Prop 8.
I disagree with you. The man in this video will harm his son if he lets him choose and define his own morality. The father who lets his son be what he wants does not understand what it means to teach and protect his son. Does a father not teach his son that stealing or lying is wrong? My parents are not bigots because they taught me right from wrong.
If a man believes in the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ, he has every right to teach his son the truth which God revealed to his people.
Sexual acts are not the same thing as different skin color. Supporting homosexual acts is pushing an agenda of immorality on others. Would it be wrong to condemn people who believed stealing was wrong? Lying? Killing? How about acts of pedophilia?
If a father found out his son had homosexual tendencies, he would not treat him differently. But, if he cared, he would tell him that homosexual acts are wrong. The father loves his son in doing so. He isn't swayed because his son doesn't understand.
If the father cared more about his son than his own pride, he would look to those who know more about homosexuality than he does, and he would learn that his opinion or instruction on the matter of his son's sexual orientation will make no difference in that sexual orientation. All it will do is push his son away from him and the parts of the scriptures which actually have value.
So, if the father knows an act is wrong, he should be quiet because he feels that he doesn't know how to articulate the reality of it? A father can push his son away if he goes about it the wrong way. But, a good father knows that he must teach his son wrong from right. Why would a father be prideful because he tells his son that homosexual acts are wrong? Are you trying to keep the father from telling his son the that a tendency is wrong even if he doesn't understand how it exists?
If God does exist, is it hard to believe that he can do these things and more? It's hard to think that these things can happen. Don't be troubled because it's hard to understand how it happened. Look into why it happened.
Many people don't believe in God because they cannot understand how he works. The real question is why he does the things that he does. What does he care about? What did he reveal to us?
He is not all about miracles, like parting the sea. God is about saving his people.
heroSaltenOspedale, thank you for your attempt to respond. fortunately, a yes or no is all that is needed to answer. please respond back with a yes or no to my question. regards, xzrhsb
Yes. God told Moses to stretch his hands to the sea. By the power of God, it parted. A woman came from the rib of a man. (Doesn't mean you are going to find man with one less rib bone than the average woman). Moses spoke to God who's presence was that of a burning bush.
heroSaltenOspedale, Over time, the number of preachers emphatically holding --- The earth was made in 6 days, and is approx. 6,000 years old, has decreased while those preachers believing the earth to be over 4 billion years old and constantly evolving has increased. Do you agree with the 6 days, 6,000 y.o. , the latter, or an interpretation not mentioned?
Thanks for the question. This is always debatable by many Christians and non-Christians. Based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, there is no definite time period that we have to believe in. The writings of the early Church Fathers (leaders of the early Church), who were much closer than we are in time and culture to the original audience of Genesis, varied in their opinion of how long creation took. Some said only a few days; other argued for a much longer, indefinite period.
In the second letter of Peter, the apostle Peter writes, "That with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Pet. 3:8). In Genesis chapter one, light was created on the first day, but the sun was not created till the fourth day (Gen. 1:3, 16). Also in Genesis, Adam was told that he would die the same "day" as he ate of the tree, yet he lived to be 930 years old (Gen. 2:17, 5:5). It's obvious that Genesis is not meant to be read like a scientific textbook.
It doesn't matter whether I believe it or not... The point is that people should have the right to believe it if they want to, and not be persecuted for it! Religion should not have to pass a test in order to be protected under the law!
Honesty, truthfulness, kindness, hard work, charity, and compassion are values. Sexual orientation is not a value. You cannot teach your gay son to be heterosexual, in attempting to do so, all you will do is instill a fear in him that your love is conditional on him pretending to be straight. Now you can respond with the "love the sinner" crap, but that's exactly what that is. If you truly love your children then you will place them above your religion.
Are you picking the parts of the scriptures that you can agree with? Have you done the research to know that the same God who created the world, who judges the world, spoke about the gravity of sins and how some sins will make someone unworthy of eternal life? You can't pick and choose. It's either all or nothing. The history of God's revelation to his people has shown that he has consistently condemned homosexual acts. (The scriptures, Rabbinic writings, The fathers of the early Church)
Honoring God with your body is a value. Many people might disagree, in thought and by action. If someone has homosexual tendencies, he has to avoid the acts. Just as someone can easily have tendencies to get drunk, lie, or have premarital sex, they still have to avoid it. My love is not impartial or conditional even though I know that my son loves his sin, that which is wrong. Love the person whom is important because God made them, but you don't have to support their wrong acts.
For the person who said whats gonna happen next if we allow a man to marry an orange, are you freaking kidding me? An orange is an object that doesnt have feelings. A man is a human. That is such a horrible example
No one has the right to tell someone they cannot married based on THEIR religious beliefs. Not everyone believes homosexuality is a sin and you have to respect that
What do you think about people trying to protest against the proposition?
52% of CA voted for Prop 8. Now, less than 48% are protesting that it is still inequality. Does it not limit the 52% who voted for it and that fewer people can take that away? It happened once already when 61% of CA voted Yes. Is it not inequality and injustice if two times in a row the majority of CA was silenced for what they fairly voted for?
I think they should protest against them. They have every right to be upset as am I. Im not even a lesbian and it is very upsetting to me because it just reitterates what a hateful world we live in. People who voted yes obviously dont know about the separation of church and state, either that or they dont care. Its no ones fucking business if a gay couple wants to get married.
if parents should have the right to object to all teachings then if i'm a racist or a sexist i should then be allowed to withdraw my child from learning about inclusion? don't think so!
second of all the rights of preaching the Bible won't be eliminated.
This is messed up people are making you believe that you have to choose between religion and discrimination laws
third of all, don't talk about muslims b/c in right now the US is all about anti- islam so don't act like you give a shit!
Freedom is the ability to make the right choice, even it means making others feel left out. Do I hold a grudge against someone who is drunk when I tell them not to drive? Do I hate people who steal because they choose to steal? To love someone is the choice to tell them the truth about what is wrong and what is right.
If Prop 8 is about hate, then why use such harsh language for something that, you say, is purely wrong?
Do you hate people who are for Prop 8? How about religious people?
JPoCDLoJTop, what is that name, a gang or something? Anyway, you are incomplete in addressing freedom. Proposition 8 is hatred, and it is bigotry. That is harsh, but you should accept who you are. As for religion, mostly it is used to justify bullheaded ideas and claim some sort of superiority by those who are insecure, and to that, you fit the bill.
So, freedom implies that we make everyone satisfied and feel good. It's impossible. Someone is always going to get left out. For discrimination issues, it's discrimination to say that couples of 3 can't get married. They are going to get left out and they could call it discrimination and bigotry. Same thing if a couple was blood related, maybe a brother and sister. They could love each other and want to get married. It is also discrimination for them. In all honesty, you have to be equal.
If we allow hetersexuals to continue to marry, what's next? Men marrying an orange? Women marrying male elephants for their endowments? Boys marrying thier mothers? Can't you just get real?
About your claim on religion, are you sure that makes sense? Say, the believers in Jesus Christ, from the early days of persecution, only were using the religious advantage to show superiority. So, why did they die for their faith? They were tortured horribly. Yet, they had many chances to deny the faith. Would you call them insecure? Maybe they just had bullheaded ideas? Those same martyrs would do the same again to fight for the truth.
Religion really is the problem. Lessons from establishment religions can only use myth, stories, metaphor, and tropes to try to communicate what it means to see clearly and open up your heart. The most wretched need orthodox religion the most in order to hold on tenuously to reality. good luck.
NO on 8! wut if one day one of ur children is gay and wants to be married? would u kik them out? then tht would make u truely heartless...btw No on 8 bitches
Would I kick them out? My adult children can do whatever they want - hopefully I've formed them in such a way that they make good and roper decisions - but if they want to go against my beliefs they, as adults, have every right do to so. Hopefully they're not still living with me when they get married either - so I wouldn't have to kick anyone out.
David Blankenhorn,a life-long, pro-gay, liberal democrat who disagrees with the Bibles prohibitions against homosexual behavior. DESPITE THIS view, Blankenhorn makes a powerful case against Same-Sex marriage in his book "The Future of Marriage". He writes, Across history and cultures . . . marriages single most fundamental idea is that every child needs a mother and a father. Changing marriage to accommodate same-sex couples would nullify this principle in culture and in law.
It is a source. It did happen. You can look it up on google if you would like. It was important to list a place that had the articles. There are many other places on the web that have the articles. I didn't use WorldNetDaily because they are more conservative. I used them because they listed the story. All three events took place, no matter how it was worded or if they had an opinion about it.
Beware the Muslims! Don't upset them or their beliefs! If you want to talk about about a serious clash between religion and gay marriage, watch out for this one!

This is possibly the most moronic campaign ad I've ever seen. It makes no sense (to an intelligent person that is).
LightoftheWest7 2 years ago
The passing of proposition 8 will probably prove FAR more dangerous to the religious right than gay marriage ever could. There is really no more legal precedent in California now to stop any simple majority from banning something from a group of people that has been defined as a constitutional right. Hell, you could probably ban christian marriage now, among other things.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago

TransylvanianWinter 2 years ago
You can still practice your religion, but don't force it on other people. Not being allowed to force your beliefs on someone else is not persecution.
And yes, we were founded on religious freedom, but you want is religious tyranny!

Our laws are secular - free from religion. Do we have to gain permission from ALL THE CHURCHES each time a law is passed to see if it lines up with their beliefs? We don't live in fricken Iran.

Banning the religious freedoms / beliefs of one group is "protecting religious freedoms" ???
Freedom extends past just YOUR will.

Paul. The definition of marriage to Christians is fully dependent on the gender of the person.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
You can say that this is a "highly Christian society" .. which, in many regards, I do believe .. but you are still allowed to not hold Christian religious beliefs in this country. This is not the theocracy that people left Europe largely to escape
"The definition of marriage to Christians is fully dependent on the gender of the person."
Some Christians don't believe this.
BTW, who did God create hermaphrodites to marry? What about an XY male with female genitalia or an XX female with male?
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
It's true that there are Christians who don't believe that this statement is true. But, why believe in Christ and not be true to his word? A Christian accepts God at his word. Can a person be American and not believe in the Declaration of Independence? It's contradictory to follow Christ and be against his teachings, or misconstrue his teachings.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
There are dozens of things in the bible as or even less vague/conditional that I am almost certain you do not follow (yet you demand this particular thing on everyone, not to mention other Catholics).
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
How do you know what things are important and which are not? Before Christ, Jews followed the law given by God through Moses. When Christ came, he said that he came to fulfill the law (of Moses), not abolish it. There are things that Christians are not held accountable for now that the Jews were accountable for. Paul argues in some of his letters (in the New Testament) against Jews who insist that Christians need to be circumcised. Christ fulfilled the law of circumcision with baptism.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
"How do you know what things are important and which are not?"
The church picks and chooses, mostly, concerning the larger modern society. Some of it is "fulfilled" in the new testament, but much of it is not even mentioned. And that, of course, does not account for the shockingly disproportionate attention given to this topic and forced on even non-Christians (often, which is a huge farce, by people that have been remarried at least once).
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
The Church picks and chooses by what God picks and chooses. People are not choosing what God wants but God acts through people to tell them what he wants. God has promised this through the giving the Holy Spirit, that he will teach all things to us after Christ has ascended to the Father.
What do you mean by shockingly disproportionate attention? Is not Marriage a sacred institution blessed by and through God? We protect the meaning of Marriage just the same as the importance of Baptism.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
"The Church picks and chooses by what God picks and chooses"
Well, perhaps what they interpret as to what God would want at any point in time. There are plenty of pretty direct laws they do not follow today.
"is not Marriage a sacred institution blessed by and through God?"
All cultures, even secular ones, have forms of marriage ... though I am sure this is your belief. Even within Christian marriage though, your focus is shockingly disproportionate and hypocritical.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
@heroSaltenOspedale doesn't the bilbe say, that you should love every human being, and doesn't every human being include gays? stop being so homophobic. the gays don't hurt anybody. and who cares whether there are some gay married people? I mean a marriage should be about 2 people truly loving each other and wanting to live their lives together and raise a family, your faith shouldn't matter.
metalbillyboy 1 year ago
That's a good question about who God created people to marry. What about people who are born handicap and are not able to marry physically? Being created does not make anyone less of person, but being created with a gender is specific. It's hard to think that God applies gender in marriage and yet there are people with different genitalia. But, God cannot contradict himself, since he is Truth. So, really, hermaphrodites can marry people as long as their of the opposite sex. They would be chaste.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
Well, the problem with many of those people is that you can't really say if they are one gender or not (at least physically, which is all you seem to care about). The body, brain structure, and genetics does not always match and/or can't be classicaly male or female)
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
"What do you think of the will of other people who disagree with marriage being defined between any two consenting adults?"
Then don't get married to someone of the same sex ..... it still doesn't affect your right to get married to someone of the opposite (legal) sex.
"What if there is a religous person who believes it is ok to kill?"
Your freedoms only go as far as taking away from others. Killing someone else takes their life.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
One might argue that in committing homosexual acts a person takes away the freedom of nature to act properly in procreation.
heroSaltenOspedale 2 years ago
It depends upon what you call natural. By most meanings, its definitely 'natural' in not only humans but all mammals ... and not only that but serve a natural purpose (and seemingly has a quite natural and amazingly consistent cause / driving force).

RoseEEOE 2 years ago
what I am saying is that if all people become gay mankind shall become extinct is this not enough to show what is wrong with gay.
Then if you say that being gay in this way is fine then lets see even having sex with dogs (and other animals) is 100% ok as long as the dog and the human agree to do it.
MatrixOfDynamism 2 years ago
"if all people become gay mankind shall become extinct is this not enough to show what is wrong with gay"
OMG. That applies to celibate priests as well! We better stop those "perverts" too before humanity ends!!!
BTW: The ratio of homosexuals has appeared to have little changed, in any culture, for pretty much all recorded time regardless of their treatment. Its not going to happen, and even if it did, they can procreate just fine through surrogacy and other methods.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
And on top of that, helping to provide ways of comittment and giving gay kids hope / models of comittment for the future isnt going to prevent homosexuals ... its only going to slow abuse, depression, and promiscuous lifestyles / temperments.
Sexual prohibitions (cultural or legal) invented western pornography and prostitution back in Victorian times, and it still promotes an underground world of sex here today.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
there is a proper and an improper way of sexual activity.
MatrixOfDynamism 2 years ago
There is a lot more to sex, and positives / reasons for sex, than simple sexual release / pleasure (which I am sure your viewpoint only applies to men anyway). If you don't understand this, then I feel truly sorry for you.
Besides this, If sex was ONLY for reproduction, our biology wouldn't be set up to crave or even allow it at the times in which it does. The function of the vast majority of it is bonding, which is FAR removed from most animals.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago
yes this does apply to priests as well and priests should stop being calibate.
Besides that priests are a few individuals of the society. what I am talking about is widespread homosexulaity. The reason why homosexuality is wrong I have mentioned it
MatrixOfDynamism 2 years ago
"what I am talking about is widespread homosexulaity. The reason why homosexuality is wrong"
Homosexuality isn't going to get any more "widespread," only attitudes will change. There is no history, evidence,or logic to suggest otherwise and every couple reproducing is not an inherently good thing anyway (only about 40% of all humans in history reproduced, and our population is HUGE now) ... and homosexual couples reproduce fine (surrogacy) when allowed to by law.
Mute argument at best.
RoseEEOE 2 years ago

Imaginefree69 3 years ago
God will accept them just the way they are but to remain a part of the church they must live the way God says. Many churches have lied to gays saying that it is okay to be gay, but on the contrary the Bible speaks strongly against gays and even against associating with them. Therefore indocrtinating children to accept gays is not only a pediphile act, it is also bad luck to have gays around.

dude im serious. get a dictionary and look up what pediphile means. look at what you're saying. how is telling kids thats its ok to be gay is a pediphile act. should we teach them to be intolerent?

Boys kissing girls on the playground in the second grade can get reprimanded and even charged with sexual misconduct, but if the boy were to kiss another little boy the teacher in order to indoctrinate the children to be acceptable of gays laughs and nothing more is said or done.
dennisservaes 3 years ago
2nd graders getting charged with sexual misconduct? dude seriously.
ok first of both situations would be taken care of because its a P.D.A. (public display of affection). also i dont see how teaching tolerence should be called "indoctorinate" and they wouldnt allow a P.D.A. to go unpunished do teach kids.
xlrxlr 3 years ago
I know it sounds bizare and even unbelievable, but when the truth is known it is stranger than fiction! Also, if a boy is bullied by 3 other bigger boys on a playground and he verbally threatens them that he might kill them, the victum can be charged with a terrorist act, as violence on school grounds can be considered a terrorist act.

dennisservaes 3 years ago
dennisservaes - if gays are pedophiles, then why aren't they asking for the right to marry children?
jfsfrnd 3 years ago
A gay union beetween a child and a fag is not a marriage, but who knows why a pediphile does anything? I would say their urges drive them to do whatever they can get away with. If a man rapes an adolecent male that is a pediphile, it is also a pediphile if he rapes an adolescent female, but I think the males are less likely to tell. The girls might even boast, so they do males instead.
dennisservaes 3 years ago
since you obviously dont understand what and gay and pedophila means here it is
gay: of, relating to, or used by homosexuals
homosexual: of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex
pedophile: one affected with pedophilia
pedophilia: sexual perversion in which children are the preferred sexual object

We don't need you're word interpretation; you need to understand that marriage is between a man and a woman, and a gay union is not a marriage.

Gulfporter 3 years ago

Gulfporter 3 years ago
I disagree with you. The man in this video will harm his son if he lets him choose and define his own morality. The father who lets his son be what he wants does not understand what it means to teach and protect his son. Does a father not teach his son that stealing or lying is wrong? My parents are not bigots because they taught me right from wrong.
If a man believes in the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ, he has every right to teach his son the truth which God revealed to his people.
heroSaltenOspedale 3 years ago
Sexual acts are not the same thing as different skin color. Supporting homosexual acts is pushing an agenda of immorality on others. Would it be wrong to condemn people who believed stealing was wrong? Lying? Killing? How about acts of pedophilia?
If a father found out his son had homosexual tendencies, he would not treat him differently. But, if he cared, he would tell him that homosexual acts are wrong. The father loves his son in doing so. He isn't swayed because his son doesn't understand.
heroSaltenOspedale 3 years ago
If the father cared more about his son than his own pride, he would look to those who know more about homosexuality than he does, and he would learn that his opinion or instruction on the matter of his son's sexual orientation will make no difference in that sexual orientation. All it will do is push his son away from him and the parts of the scriptures which actually have value.
Gulfporter 3 years ago
So, if the father knows an act is wrong, he should be quiet because he feels that he doesn't know how to articulate the reality of it? A father can push his son away if he goes about it the wrong way. But, a good father knows that he must teach his son wrong from right. Why would a father be prideful because he tells his son that homosexual acts are wrong? Are you trying to keep the father from telling his son the that a tendency is wrong even if he doesn't understand how it exists?

Do you also believe that a man raised his arms and a sea opened up, a woman came from the rib of a man, and another man spoke to a burning bush?
xzrhsb 3 years ago
If God does exist, is it hard to believe that he can do these things and more? It's hard to think that these things can happen. Don't be troubled because it's hard to understand how it happened. Look into why it happened.
Many people don't believe in God because they cannot understand how he works. The real question is why he does the things that he does. What does he care about? What did he reveal to us?
He is not all about miracles, like parting the sea. God is about saving his people.

Do you agree with the 6 days, 6,000 y.o. , the latter, or an interpretation not mentioned?
xzrhsb 3 years ago
Thanks for the question. This is always debatable by many Christians and non-Christians. Based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, there is no definite time period that we have to believe in. The writings of the early Church Fathers (leaders of the early Church), who were much closer than we are in time and culture to the original audience of Genesis, varied in their opinion of how long creation took. Some said only a few days; other argued for a much longer, indefinite period.
heroSaltenOspedale 3 years ago

Religion should not have to pass a test in order to be protected under the law!
aarongatescarlton 3 years ago
Honesty, truthfulness, kindness, hard work, charity, and compassion are values. Sexual orientation is not a value. You cannot teach your gay son to be heterosexual, in attempting to do so, all you will do is instill a fear in him that your love is conditional on him pretending to be straight. Now you can respond with the "love the sinner" crap, but that's exactly what that is. If you truly love your children then you will place them above your religion.
Gulfporter 3 years ago

DancetotheMusicxxx 3 years ago
No one has the right to tell someone they cannot married based on THEIR religious beliefs. Not everyone believes homosexuality is a sin and you have to respect that

What do you think about people trying to protest against the proposition?
52% of CA voted for Prop 8. Now, less than 48% are protesting that it is still inequality. Does it not limit the 52% who voted for it and that fewer people can take that away? It happened once already when 61% of CA voted Yes. Is it not inequality and injustice if two times in a row the majority of CA was silenced for what they fairly voted for?
heroSaltenOspedale 3 years ago

JPoCDLoJToP 3 years ago 2
JPoCDLoJTop, what is that name, a gang or something? Anyway, you are incomplete in addressing freedom. Proposition 8 is hatred, and it is bigotry. That is harsh, but you should accept who you are. As for religion, mostly it is used to justify bullheaded ideas and claim some sort of superiority by those who are insecure, and to that, you fit the bill.
jerrydoubleu 3 years ago

Can't you just get real?
jerrydoubleu 3 years ago
About your claim on religion, are you sure that makes sense? Say, the believers in Jesus Christ, from the early days of persecution, only were using the religious advantage to show superiority. So, why did they die for their faith? They were tortured horribly. Yet, they had many chances to deny the faith. Would you call them insecure? Maybe they just had bullheaded ideas? Those same martyrs would do the same again to fight for the truth.
JPoCDLoJToP 3 years ago
Religion really is the problem. Lessons from establishment religions can only use myth, stories, metaphor, and tropes to try to communicate what it means to see clearly and open up your heart. The most wretched need orthodox religion the most in order to hold on tenuously to reality. good luck.

Yes I do hate people who are for prop 8 and religious people. Yes I do.

NO on 8! wut if one day one of ur children is gay and wants to be married? would u kik them out? then tht would make u truely heartless...btw No on 8 bitches
sheelagirl 3 years ago
Would I kick them out? My adult children can do whatever they want - hopefully I've formed them in such a way that they make good and roper decisions - but if they want to go against my beliefs they, as adults, have every right do to so. Hopefully they're not still living with me when they get married either - so I wouldn't have to kick anyone out.

Stop forcing your "social-moral beliefs" on everyone else by trying to amend the constitution and deny equal rights to people.

YES ON PROP 8!!

Wingnut Daily is your source?
isn't that the website that makes fox news look liberal? Didn't they have a known gay porn star and male prostitute as one of their reporters?
cryan71 3 years ago
It is a source. It did happen. You can look it up on google if you would like. It was important to list a place that had the articles. There are many other places on the web that have the articles. I didn't use WorldNetDaily because they are more conservative. I used them because they listed the story. All three events took place, no matter how it was worded or if they had an opinion about it.
heroSaltenOspedale 3 years ago
And all three have nothing to do with Prop 8.
