  • It's a well-known fact that more than 80% of anonymous internet comments are retarded. You don't have to look any further than this thread to see that.

  • The Marines fought for islands hardly anyone knew about, in conditions no one would tolerate. Yet one by one each was taken, by brave men who would not accept defeat from a determined enemy that did not tolerate defeat. These battles were hard fought and earned in blood.

  • @iLikeSportz1 not much just about a tenth of it. and a coin. The man that brought it back was Medal of Honor winner Sgt Bordelon's best friend. They were at Guadalcanal and Tarawa together. The flag came from a Jap beach defender routed out by flamethrowers.

  • You won't find Leftist Liberals watching the Heroic Marines in this documentary as Leftist Liberals are COWARDS! God Bless the Marines! God Bless America!

  • @Halftrac I'm a "Leftist Liberal", and I've seen this film three times. BTW, my uncle (RIP) was a Navy Corpsman at Iwo Jima who was saving the Heroic Marines (and a "Leftist Liberal" as well). I think you should should check your attitude at the door.

  • @prinznevsky BULLSHIT!

  • @Halftrac ...is precisely what you spew out of you mouth. Seriously dude, you need to check your facts. These men fought and died fighting FASCISM (or a Japanese form of it) which is RIGHT-WING. You obviously don't have a clue, so I will cease to sully this movie's comments section with any more dealings with your insulting stupidity.

  • @prinznevsky Your polluted juvenile LEFTIST brain needs a LOBOTOMY as the damage done by the public school system in this country is nonreversible!

  • @Halftrac well unless you aren't actually a US citizen (hmm...) than you too were educated in the same system. And I'm not the one being juvenile, if you would take a look at your posts and see your own display of such behavior. Actully, I'm now convinced you aren't even from the US, and you know nothing about the history of World War Two in the PTO.

  • @prinznevsky Typical LEFTIST lying bullshit!

  • @prinznevsky The Marines and Corpsmen at Iwo Jima were great.Salute to them!!!!

  • This is an outstanding instructional materials for our Philippine Marine Corps especially to the new recruits. Amphibious operation is the trademark of the Marines all over the world

  • This is an example of many battles fought in the war in the Pacific and an example of the bravery of the US military. I'm proud to have served my country and hope that anyone who feels like I do stands up for her and her military members. They never know when they will give the ultimate sacrifice, that makes them all heroes in my book.

  • hey I m from Tarawa, My grandfather told me about the Wars...Thank you American Marines for defending us...

  • they fought alot harder than they madeit look like tarawa was a meat grinder

  • they should use this at recruiting offices

    lol

  • suicide snipers are cool!

  • That's some amazing WW2 footage right here.

  • USN-78thru84, USS ConserverARS-39 USAF-95-03. I wonder if riverside496 ever served in the military, by the way he talks you'd think he was in WW1. Talk is cheap, and when you start hating, you disrespect those who served, and those who gave their lives. Learn to love...TM HT2, H.C.F. High Max Prison Oahu, Hi.

  • lol last 2 tags best ever

  • They are savage fighters, their lives mean nothing to them - Oh yeah? There was incredible heroism on both sides.

  • @kevinastraw dude, it's a 1944 propaganda film. We didn't have all the background knowledge of the Japanese viewpoint at this time. When this film was produced, all the U.S. saw the Japanese as people who fought to the death even when the situation was hopeless. So what im saying is that in this time period, this statement was considered true.

  • My Pa (Grandpa) was in it all over the place from 1938, along with all 3 of his brothers, (my Great Uncles). They all survived all of it. From The South Pacific to Africa to Egypt and Europe. And then later in Vietnam and Korea. They never spoke of it. My Nan would wake up and find my Pa screaming under the bed for years after. They were all so young ! All he ever said to me was "The bloody Army. Jeezuz I hated the bloody War". They gave everything even when they survived. RIP diggers.

  • The original was almost all color. This so-called restoration is mostly black and white. I have 2 copies of the original, 1 VHS and one DVD, and no they are not "colorized".

  • My father was at Tarawa and many of the other island battles. He was a Navy Vet that was in it from day one, 7 Dec 1941, serving in the USS Dewey, DD-349, off the coast of these islands providing close gun support for the Marines. May God bless all the men who served and fell during the 2nd World War. Fair Winds and Following Seas to all the men of the Naval Forces who served during this horrific war.

  • Thanks for uploading this World War II classic!

  • We've never ever spotted the motion picture and therefore went to set eyes on this one located at thisisawesomemovie, coom and simply my hubby and i said? that it appears to be outstanding. you actually obviously would need to fully understand who the actual 3 most important characters are and therefore anything else definitely will be logical.

  • The marines are fucing awesome. If not for the marines, not USA

  • Semper Fi! Yat-Yas!

  • I love mushrooms. 2,5 gees and fond myself here in the internet.

  • semperfi!

  • I had not heard of this battle until I was watching an episode of 'The Sopranos' in which Tony was watching footage of the battle on the Discovery Channel. Then I came across this incredible little film. It still shocks and amazes me and makes me so grateful for the sacrifices made by the members of the USMC and other Allied forces.

  • But if a film about the sacrafices made by U.S.Marines for freedom were shown, there would be less time to concentrate on transgender issues and self-esteem!

  • to anyone that thinks this is goverment propaganda, i can tell you this. my father fought on tarawa and was wounded by mortar fire, he had metal shratnel in 40 pct of his body and was never quite right obviously from the constant shelling that these brave men had to endure. he was 35 years old at the time, his name was john dembowski

  • @iLikeSportz1 not much. maybe about half a foot by half a foot. It had a coin sewed onto it. It really gives you thought on how bad it really was. The description says the Japanese Marine was in the bunker and was hit by grenades and flushed out by flame throwers.

  • i got a burned jap flag from this battle...came from a guy that won the silver star. It brings the history to life and gives a real insight at what these US Marines had to do to take this island.

  • hey halo/machima...fuck you. "these men of the 2nd Marine Division" dont give a crap about your terrible 3 min ad that goes no where. so why dont you take it the hell down. they didnt fight and die for video game sales.

  • HBO should have included TARAWA campaign in THE PACIFIC mini series.

  • @mdcsun They couldn't and keep the story. Tarawa was taken by the Second MarDiv and the Pacific story was based on the First MarDiv.

  • @Toddinfantry But HBO covered the landing of IWO JIMA by 5th Marine Div "Death of Sgt. Basilone". Anyway compared to Tarawa 3,000 USMC death/missing more than 6,000 USMC death/missing in IWO, which made IWO JIMA the most fierciest battle in the Pacific.

  • @mdcsun Yes they did break away from the 1st MarDiv to follow Basilone. Tarawa had 1,028 Marines KIA not 3000. Iwo was 6,821 and if you figure just casualties, Iwo was the fiercest. But in all honesty, is one battle any more fierce than another, was Iwo more fierce that Peleliu or Okinawa?

  • @mdcsun AGREED.

  • 7:56 did that guy get shot?

  • general patton said making the other guy die for his country is better

  • as a former marine i'm proud to have served in the 2nd marines. all high school students need to remember that lots of these guys were fresh out of high school.

  • @dcarrero26 yeaa back then alot of those boys werent even 20

  • the more things change, the more they stay the same...........japs/taliban, both believe that dying in combat is a glorious end to a glorious life - let's leave 'em to it and concentrate on the real issues, like fat bankers, multi national arms companies robbing the public purse, health care for all. instead we believe the bs about a 'terrorist threat', one that we helped create in the first place in our 'war' with the soviets and perpetuated by a media that plays on our fears for better ratings

  • This movie was directed by actor Louis Hayward, originally from England, but who enlisted in the US Marines and was put in command of the photography unit which filmed this epic battle. Hayward never fully recovered from the horrors he witnessed on Tarawa.

  • 8:26, one of the most amazing pieces of film ever

  • This is amazing footage, the scene where the Japs run out of their bunker is one of the only pieces of film that has both the enemy and the marines in the same frame.

  • one day i hope to be doing the same brave thing as these men.....

  • what dying

  • One of the amazing things about this assault was that the marines had wade about 700 yards to the shore because the shallows weren't deep enough for the landing craft which needed 4 feet of water. So they tread through waste deep water for 700 yards in the face of machine gun fire... amazing! This documentary was allowed by Pres. Franklin because his friend Robert Sherrod was there as a correspondent and talked him into it. It proved to be the largest war bond raiser of the entire war.

  • My Grand Uncle. Pfc. Quinten G. Nelson saw combat with I Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Tarawa. He was a heavy machine gun crewman and was awarded the Navy Cross Medal exceptionally and meritoriously at Saipan on June 16, 1944. Although he saw two days of combat on Tarawa he told me before his death in 1998 that Tarawa haunted him dearly. He remembers dragging two wounded Marines out of a enemy trench onto a stretcher and carrying them away.

  • God speed Pfc. Quinten G. Nelson,,, thank you sir.

  • Outstanding PFC Nelson!

    Rest in Peace Marine.

    Semper Fi!!

  • Zappasaurus, did you know that this documentary was consider so graphic that all the American censors said it could only be shown if it were heavily edited. It took a decry for President Roosevelt himself for this film to be shown unedited and to the United States Public. This was like no propaganda film before it and few since. Propaganda films usually do not show the grim toll of war quite like this film did.

  • This was an interesting view of the fight. It leaves out much of the ugliness of this three day dreadful fight. I guess all propaganda films are like that. When I was a child my best friend's father (old man at the time) was a vet. He was a SeaBee at Peleliu and at Tarawa. He always refused to talk about it. But we kept pestering him about it (you know how boys can be). So he agreed to speak with us about it this one time. Unspeakably grim, graphic, and detailed, we never asked again.

  • So much death. So much horror. I will never fully understand or know how much sacrifice there truly was. God bless these men with all my heart.

  • "These are the Marines that took Tarawa." They are the faces of ordinary folks, doing and extraordinary job. Wonderful men we owe much!

  • "They're savage fighters, they're lives mean nothing to them." Really? lol

  • Advertisements shame the sacrifices these men made for all of us.

  • Thankyou for this. God Bless the Navy and Marine Corps!

  • Great video. Thanks to all the vets.

  • ok fine

  • GOD loves "The Marines" !!!

  • I have posted photos I took in 1973 of Nauru Tarawa, Tuvalu and Fiji. The photos of Nauru show the guns captured by the Japs in Singapore and transported to Nauru.. The photos can be seen on Webshots by doing a search on "coopec100"

  • This Film should be shown in every high school in America. Never forget what has been sacrificed for our freedom.

  • Yes it should. It's a damn shame how many folks don't know what has happened in the last hundred years.

  • Comment removed

  • @rukkee22 I agree with y'all.

  • @rukkee22 Maybe every high school in our world ! - " Lest We Forget " The incredible ANZAC's -

  • May God Bless, The United states Marine corps. Semper Fi.
