@DualofChaos I don't think so. High-end proper European supercars will still use V12s. Turbocharging has its disadvantages as well, and there is a limit to how much power a V8 will give.

I think many are forgetting that just because a car company wants to use a extremely powerful v12 in their car, doesn't mean they can. The governments of different countries will place more stringent emission laws in the future. Will the v12s make it to meet those laws? Well we can only hope.

Everyone in the car industry and motorsport are using smaller engine's but with turbos now. Mainly because the technology we have today make's these engines much more efficient and still they produce more power than the old one's. WTCC 1.6 turbo, same with WRC, and F1 next year going with 1.6ltr V6 turbo, it's all about emissions now and being enviornmentally friendly.

Bentley's don't have to have any particular number or formation of cylinders as long as it's not diesel. @golferchin76 probably wont ever happen. with increasing regulation on fuel economy and emissions, manufacurers are hard pressed to build large engines when smaller more economical engines can make the same power.

also, smaller engines are cheaper to build in the long run, and are lighter.

the only reason for v10s and v12s is power, but when you can engineer a turbo six to do the same, there is no point other than nostalgia.

it does make me sad however.

@an50331 True, the reason why manufacturer went back to force feed is only for one reason, much more efficient burning of fuel. Merc has been doing this with supercharger, and Bimmer went turbo with the 335 if I remember correctly.

But that's for large manufacturers who need that "green" image. smaller supercar manufacturers don't need that burden.

The NA v12 in the Aventador can only do so much right? what if it needs another 300 horses to compete with future competitors?

@DualofChaos I don't see it as a problem. For cars like this, the engine wasn't really part of its heritage, so it's no big loss as long as sound and performance are still good.

Big Ferraris, Lambos, and Astons will come with a V12 for a long time, I'm confident of that. The engine is part of what makes them special.

But for every other car that just had a big engine for performance, engineering innovations can give them better performance out of smaller engines, which is a good thing.
