  • Can I say that you're just awesome ? So cool to know how to speak all those languages. I think it's a great way to open yourself to other cultures around you. I mean I'm french and your accent is very good :) I would like to be able to speak as many languages as you. I speak English and Spanish. I'm currently learning portuguese and I love it !

  • why did you learn esperanto ?

:D "Teach yourself Norwegian!"

  • Benny, why dont you study Russian? Try it, if you have so great possibilities .

  • @irishpolyglot

I'm from India and can currently speak 3 languages fluently-English,Marathi and Hindi.I also know some Italian and Spanish. Right now, I'm trying to learn Italian by reading text-books, learning new words daily and watching interviews and reading Italian e-papers. For Spanish, I'm using Pimsleur Spanish. For French, I learn from my grandfather (whenever I go home) and I have lots of e-books and audio lessons. Could you suggest some methods to improve my learning speed?

  • Are there any languages you just would not care to learn? I think Arabic is horrible and Dutch. Not sexy at all. The sexiest languages aside from the Latin ones are probably Hungarian and Greek. You should do them next :P

  • @Sambucca Have a search on my blog and you'll be surprised what you see! I wrote about Dutch in great detail while I was learning it last year, and wrote an article especially to encourage those learning Hungarian, when I learned it 2 years ago.

Arabic is on my list. I don't find it horrible at all. No language is horrible when you appreciate that it's just people chatting to one another.

  • @irishpolyglot

Ugh, but it just sounds so aggressive and throaty, like they're fighting with each other. I don't like it. Anyway, I'm teaching myself Japanese at the moment and might try Spanish after I get a bit better at it. Phonetically they are very similar so it should be an easy transition.

Fair play to ye though on launching such a brave venture.

  • @irishpolyglot

Is there any reason you chose to learn Brazilian Portuguese and not Portuguese Portuguese?

  • tell me this, what do you use when you go to a country and start learning? do you use software or books or any other resources??? i speak italian but now im learning tagalog. mainly because my girlfriend is Filipino and i really want to go to the country for a while. for learning i use rosetta stone and the pimsleur approach.

  • @stefomate It seems you have the best resource in the world right under your nose before you got expensive software and audio and you don't realise it...

  • @irishpolyglot i know but i want to learn on my own without her. and then when i feel comfortable enough i will practice with her. as for the audio and software i torrented it all so no money was involved ;) lol

  • @stefomate she'll appreciate your learning the language and she'll help you out, trust me. she really is the best resource so don't be shy!

  • @iambigga i know. i was just trying to surprise her. she speaks the language every day with her family but in general she is more used to speaking english now. we plan on going to the phillipines in the future for a nice holiday and i want to train with the doce paris so i hope to be a decent speaker by then

  • I wish I was like him, but I wish I were like that with English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Arabic, Japanese and Cantonese.

  • benny youve got balls ill give you that and you are making good money! its looking albert einstein may have a hero. you. benny your great!

  • I am amazed. I would love to learn so many languages, its so beneficial for all of us.

  • Continuation of previous comment which was cut off:

poster also speaks are being hypocritical when they complain that he speaks with an accent or does not speak the language perfectly when they themselves are complaining about it in imperfect English. When someone can post a video of himself or herself speaking eight languages as well as Benny does then maybe the criticism will be better received.

  • I am surprised by and disappointed with the many negative responses to this video. I am fluent in both German and Spanish and I think that the poster of this video does a fine job of speaking both of those languages here. I am also fluent in Russian, and as a native English speaker who has learned multiple foreign languages I believe that the negative comments posted here are hypercritical and unfounded. I especially think that the native speakers of some of the languages that the video's poste

  • I didn't know the Irish had its own laguage I alwasy thought they spoke English with a different accent.

    excelent demonstration btw.

  • the most difficult language to learn in Europe is Danish

  • @anyalify Have you tried Polish?

  • If you are happy just learning "street language".....

  • Wow! You're a pretty inspiring person to someone (such as myself) trying to learn multiple languages. I speak English and Portuguese fluently, am conversational in Spanish and Japanese, and understand light amounts of German Italian and French. I had the blessing of being raised multilingual, so I feel like I'm wired to pick up languages with more ease than others. Hopefully I'll be able to live in Europe by the time in 22. =]

  • Can you speak Greek?

    Μπορείτε να μιλήσετε ελληνικά;

  • todavía hay que mejorar tu pronunciación

  • I wish you the best. However, I am very skeptical of your claim. You are asking people to hand over a significant amount of money, yet have not been very forthcoming with your abilities. Please post more videos of you actually speaking these 8 languages. Furthermore, I think your pronunciation in French needs much improvement. I am very skeptical of your claim and book, and would love to be proven wrong.

  • @Nolalinguist I have way over a hundred videos of me speaking these and several other languages on this same Youtube channel. Search for "Quebec" to see me speak spontaneously with a native in French for twenty minutes. Why not look actually at those a while, or on my blog explaining how I learn languages for FREE, before commenting on the first video you see...

  • @irishpolyglot First of all, I'd like to say that I really enjoy your website. It's a place on the web where we language enthusiasts can go to amuse ourselves with everything that has to do with language learning. I myself have found your blog googling "Irish English" and read many things about the English language (as spoken in Ireland) that I didn't previously know, however, as interesting as your website (and youtube, facebook, etc) might be I do agree with our fellow youtuber that your...

  • @artienp2 ....claim about speaking 8 languages FLUENTLY sounds a little far-fetched.I'd like to emphasize that never did I claim you didn't actually spoke the 8 languages you claim you speak I just pointed out the "fluent" factor. I say that as a native speaker of the Portuguese language.

All that however was just a little remark...

  • @artienp2 ...and in no way did I intend to be offensive, the porpuse of my repply was just some constructive criticism. All in all, I'm a big fan of your work, keep it up!

  • @irishpolyglot Could you take on Croatian, I would love to hear you speak it :P

  • this is awesome i wanna learn french but in the quebecois form im doing it next year in college cant wait !

  • why not trying indonesian?? it is one easiest language which has many speakers

  • Man, I've never heard Irish being spoken before. That was wild! I'm excited to start reading your blog! I just starting taking German ad would love to be fluent at it. Possibly making my classes much, much easier!

  • Why not try some non-European languages for extra challenge?

  • @georgianagina Please read the blog. This year I've taken on Tagalog, Turkish, American Sign Language and Quechua and in January I'm onto another non European language that I'll reveal after the new year. I made this video a year and a half ago. A lot has changed since ;)

  • @irishpolyglot If you're a native English speaker, the non-Latin based languages are the challenge.... Good luck with Tagalog!

  • Man, you are awesome! Two thumbs up!

  • I'd say 46$ is a bit too much, srsly (however I appriciate your efforts)

  • Espectacular!!!!

  • you have NO idea how much i want to be fluent in at least 5 different languages. considering 50% of my friends are foreign or have foreign parents, they speak more than one language and me being a international culture buff, this drives me insane that i only know English. I've tried to find ways to learn different languages but my methods won't work. *sighs* i'll try harder, and hopefully i'll be as successful as you Benny :)

  • So has anyone used this program and can vouch for it working?

  • It's interesting the difference in the pitch when speaking in Brazilian Portuguese ( 1:22 ) versus speaking in German ( 2:15 ).

  • So jealous... o.o

  • you are great fella

  • I'm so glad you learned to speak all those languages so well having started at 21. I'm 16 and I've been learning English since I'm like 5 years old and I can say I'm quite good at it but it did take all of my childhood. And I really want to speak more languages well. I love languages so much. I'm learning Japanese and I also want to learn a language with declensions like German and if I can an agglutinative language, like Finnish or Quechua. But people say it's harder as you get older. Thanks!

  • @ArturoStojanoff BTW awesome Spanish. Really Spanish (as in from Spain)...

  • Comment removed

  • I like the fact that rather than being nay sayers, people are saying you can do it. It's a nice thing.

  • He is definitely right. I've been in Germany for 2 months, not completely full immersion but 15 hrs a week of German class/home study and many hours of speaking German with au pair host family. I try to make the absolute best of what I can say with the level of vocabulary and grammar I know. I'm not afraid to make errors and be corrected. I've probably got to the same level in 2 months as I would with 5 years at school.

  • tu a un bon francais

  • Muito bom Português :)

  • You sound like a caricature, especially when you say ''muito bem'' in Portuguese...

  • benny man up. learn ancient greek

  • 8? I only know 3. Nice tres bien

  • I was wondering if your Language Hacking Guide is avaliable in stores? Or can I get it only via the internet? Thanks for the answer! And keep up the good work! :)

    Cheers

  • just pointing out that was the union jack, probably should have used the St. George's flag for England

  • dude, i admire you. my dream, no, my goal is to be a polyglot. (since it's my first language) i speak fluent spanish, and my english is kinda good. i'm currently in québec learning french. i also speak a little italian and practice everyday with an italian girl from my school. (she said my italian is very good). in addition, i studied japanese grammar and can read and write both hiragana and katakana and a few kanji, plus i can make simple sentences in jap. i also can read greek. - i'm 16 btw :p

  • @pachonman95 No kidding, i'm almost in the same situation as you! I'm peruvian so my native language is spanish, i'm fluent at english and in process of learning italian. Also, I'm going to Quebec/Ontario during summer (well, winter over there) vacations to learn French and improve my English. I'm even 16, too.

  • @elqtjode woahh, seriously?

  • @pachonman95 Yeah, where are you from?

  • Ar fheabhas! Go hAlainn! Go raibh maith agat, A Bhenny! Nior chuala me aon duine ag caint Gaeilge san idirlion riamh. Shilfea go mbeadh moran daoine ag caint e. Beannacht De leat agus beannacht De le hanamacha na marbh. Taim a Ghra ar teanga fein. Tiocfaidh ar la. Slan

  • His spanish is from Spain, but still I can understand it (: I speak spanish as first language and his spanish is reaaaaaally good. Congrats for that, I wish I could learn more languages some day till now I just speak Spanish, English and Swedish.. I'm going for the Portuguese and French! You have motivated me man, thanks =)

  • brazilian? ppl, its portuguese... n in Cuba, its Spanish

  • @sigridenid Not Cubase :D?

  • @sigridenid But I'm told there is a great difference between the Portuguese of Portugal and that of Brazil (much greater than the minor differences we observe in Spanish or English between Europe and the New World countries.) Personally, I don't know, as the only Portuguese I ever hear is from Brazil (and it takes a little getting used to, but after about 10 or 15 minutes, I find that I can understand what they're saying just fine, and they understand me when I reply in Spanish.)

  • Comment removed

  • @sigridenid yes, you're right, brazilian portuguese, we don't speak spanish.

  • SRSLY.. BRAZIL? OOH Sooo wonderful! You speak Spanish and you can speak "Brazilian"? Maan, U mad? !

And you sure couldn't speak the language of Cuba and the others..?

  • It's good that you've learned all the languages! Good job, although I think after English you speak French the best, you speak the other languages with a funny accent. Keep up the good work!

  • wow really!

i love brazilian, i have read your article.

and now I'm still learning portuguese. at first I did not know why I was interested to learn but I found that I liked the language and I was born to speak in portuguese :)

  • I was put off of learning a new language for quite some time because of my Spanish class in high school being tricky to focus in, due to being 15 at the time, and also due to the bad structure of the classes.

I'm definitely taking several of your tips to heart for learning Russian. Thanks.

  • Does this make you a Boondock Saint?

  • omg i had to watch your video twice. the first time, i was too gobsmacked by how many languages you speak to simultaneously read the subs

  • you're very talented! But can you speak Chinese?

  • Benny, you are awesome!!! I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I moved to the US when I was 13. It was difficult to learn English for me because of the human aspect you talk about. Americans have a little of a Parisian attitude about their language and I did not feel at ease. I still have an accent, although I learned the language young. I learned Portuguese at age 21, and Brazilians where warm and welcoming, I learned it quick, and my accent and pronunciation is perfect. My next goal is French.

  • He is the man......

  • Where's russian? lol

  • This is AWESOME. Bennys the man.

  • Super hero!

Greetings from Brazil.

  • lol, his voice totally changes with every language. haha

  • I'm 23 and trying really hard to learn Spanish, this is some real inspiration for me!

  • haha, awasome skills ! he reminds me of a particular character in a QTarantino movie :D

  • I learn speak monkey, ooh ooh ah ah! Give me banana!

  • Nach ndearna tú Gaeilge nuair a bhí tú sa scoil? An as an Tuaisceart thú?

Right now my goal is perfecting my english, learning japanese and then esperanto. Your technique has been working quite well for me since i'm able to speak a little japanese in the course of a month.

I salute you, y ojalá que te vaya muy bien en todo.

  • Your pronunciation in French is way better than in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Lol I wonder what will Portugueses think when they see Brazil instead of Portugal as the representing image of Portuguese language.

Great job, keep it up! ;)

  • @technolife1815 I completely agree!! I speak English & Spanish, although I understand some French, I'm not really a French speaker, just "learned" it as a kid in elementary school in Canada.. and the first time I watched the video I thought you were French!

Although I was confused because you said when you went to Paris vs. France... that's when I stumbled on this video and found out you were Irish! haha Awesome!!

I love languages, good for you!!

  • @LAcocoloco

Huh, were you talking to me? I have no idea what your comments are all about.

lol I think you have replied the wrong person.

  • Nice job dude. btw what's your favorite language ?

  • I was just waiting for him to start speaking Welsh after he used Irish but I was dissapointed... Although, can't really complain when there were 7 others :P

  • @kriszkrs I never said he could speak 12 languages... He speaks 8 (or rather, he MAINTAINS 8). Great, 4 languages are enough for you, fine. I find it curious that you are so convinced he is cheating because you've seen him moving his eyes. Your argument is ridiculous because it's based on potentially inaccurate evidence. I also admire Luca (who is amazing especially when it comes to accent, he's like a language chameleon) and Richard very much. I also admire Benny. No fanboying from me at all.

  • very good!!!! I like so much it, I'm brazilian and I only speak more and less 3 language and I'm studing 4 years....... but I don't speak very well and I study for a long time,,,,,what' the secret????

Você falou portugues muito bem, parabens!!!

  • You are adorable. The video is a delight - very encouraging - you are making a believer out of me. :)

  • There really was no mistake, at least no grammar mistake, but it still doesn't sound very good. Benny, you've got the melody wrong. I don't speak a Romance language, but the melody of these sentences reminds me more of Spanish or Italian or even French. Still, I think your very inspiring, thank you for your website :)

  • He should be recruited by the government and becoming secret agent :P Or maybe he is a secret agent LOL

    Awesome!

  • @Yume666ify Now that you know my secret, I'm afraid I'll have to kill you!

  • @irishpolyglot omg!! you are like my hero!!!

  • @irishpolyglot Congratulations You are so smart Learning a new language is not an easy task for anybody it takes time and effort .

  • I saw you on TV today D:

  • @SummerKingdom Thanks :D

  • should of put pig-latin

  • @kriszkrs That's not exactly proof... even if he IS looking at something it may just be bullet points, eh? So you speak 4 languages, but don't speak 12? Suffering from an inferiority complex is definitely reason to accuse someone of cheating with absolutely no real proof whatsoever... I see...

  • @kriszkrs I'm not reading anything - don't be silly! I agree with @EmeraldNK - you've got a weird inferiority complex. The idea of me reading in this video is so ridiculous that I made an April Fool's joke about it! Search my site for "Benny's confession" to read it :)

  • @kriszkrs In fact, he isn't... Unless of course you can prove it?

  • i am disappoint

  • 12 boring people want everyone to speak just one language ;)

  • @irishpolyglot ahahhaa fortunally i'm not one of them :) Hey I'm very interested in reading your guide. I was wondering, is it possible to buy it? Or Do I just have to download it? I admire you so much just becuz you like language, buddy ;)

  • Awesome! I've always dreaming about speaking fluently in other languages (including English). My Native tongue is Tagalog. Fluency in Tagalog makes it very hard for non-native speakers because it is known for having a very much stiff accent. All non-Filipinos are having a hard time in speaking straight Tagalog with diction and tone. I challenge you to speak Tagalog fluently. haha. Nonetheless, you've just fuel up my passion for speaking different languages. Thank you. :)

  • your italian is magnificent! Cheers from Italy

  • SENSACIONAL o vídeo, Benny, ganhou um fã!

  • wow

  • Man you have to admit you've got talent! Anyways, I'll show this video to every people I know that is currently mastering a second language. I'm a native Spanish speaker, from South America, but I can say you have a really good, traditional Spanish accent. Congrats dude.

  • I absolutely love your Italian accent :) I have been study French for one year now and I can't speak it yet, that's so frustrating! I will read your tips hoping it may help!

  • @urbanfantasyfan I'm from Austria (which means my native tongue is German) and he speaks it pretty well and there was no mistake

  • I'm from Austria and your accent while speaking German is sooooo cute!! I love it!

  • Wow what an amazing job. You speak portuguese really well. I just have a question. So you are from Ireland so you are European. I would like to know why did you learn spanish from Spain, french from France, and then, portuguese from Brazil? Wouldn't be more obvious if it would be from Portugal? Just asking...

  • id kill purchase his boook but im fourteen and alas credit cardless

  • very good brasilian portuguese voce tem acento de sao paulo e ate engracado mas da umas quebradas em algumas palavras hahahha, falow rapaz.

  • This is a really good video and clarified for me what I had been thinking for the last number of years: Language learning is not a measure of INTELLIGENCE. I agree with a lot of what Benny says, I also have more ideas and opinions to add. I am going to attempt to learn Spanish and Italian together within 6 months. If you want to learn more about this then look at my video, fluent6months: 4 language introduction.

  • Ceapaim go mbeadh píonta dubh níos oiriúnaí chun Éire a thaispeáint.

Maith thú, ar aon nós. Tá blas maith Fraincise agat.

  • Your Portuguese is the Brazilian version. I am going to look at your guide cos I am struggling with Japanese :(

  • Your German accent is so cute n_n

  • do they teach gaelic in Ireland?

  • @lalo1989cm since irish gaelige is a dying language, irelands taken it upon themselves to make it a mandatory part of the cummiculum

  • @nnpurple thanks

  • I've got a question Benny: Did you write the German subtiles of this video for your website?

  • @TomSFox No. I added in the text of the subtitles in a set of files for the translator of the Language Hacking Guide for each language. Why? Is there a mistake? Let me know and I'll correct it ;)

  • @irishpolyglot Well, one thing that bothers me is that they refer to speaking languages "flüssig," when everybody knows that you speak languages "fließend." I've seen this before when somebody who wasn't a very good translator tried to translate "fluently," though this word doesn't seem to appear at the corresponding spot in the English subtitles, so I don't understand how that could have happened. I hope you didn't just pick some volunteers on the Internet to translate your book.

  • @TomSFox No, it was a long-time reader of my blog ;) He had the book proofread to remove mistakes, but not the subtitles. I can make that correction myself.

  • @irishpolyglot So he doesn't speak German natively?

  • @TomSFox People make mistakes, and a proofreader corrects them. I also make spelling or incorrect wording mistakes on my blog in my native language. Your question is quite silly. I only had natives translate. The one thing they all had in common is that they are human. If you don't like one particular word he translated then no need to jump to conclusions about him not being native...

  • @irishpolyglot As I said, it was ONE of the things that bothered me. And imagine somebody said they spoke a language liquidly. Wouldn't you think this person probably isn't a native speaker? Or at the very least unfit to work as a translator?

  • Hi!! :D ahaha I'm italian! you're very nice !!! very very very!! :) I think you've got talent ..because it needs talent also to do and to learn it :) I like your soul that you put inside..:) ! ahahaha I liked so much Colosseo and Pasta Barilla ahahah :D do you like it?? byee!

  • @StefaniaDCM3 Of course! I'm a big fan of Barilla - I eat them all around the world ;)

  • I've been living in Finland for 10 years a hardly speed a word. It's very frustrating for me. I've recently tried to learn Esperanto to 'hack' my brain in to accepting other languages, but I'm not really doing so well in that either (It's only been 2 months though). Speaking of which, it seemed you had a little difficultly with the Esperanto on the video and I was wondering what you thought of it as a language? How do you rate it in comparison with other languages? What do you like dislike etc.?

  • @r3bol Other people have commented about my Esperanto in the video. I got distracted at that moment; normally I'd speak it with the same fluency as the rest of my languages ;)

If you search my blog (or google "2 weeks of Esperanto") you'll see my thoughts on it! :)

You can definitely have a fresh start on your Finnish! Best of luck!

  • @Medievalwarrior89 Grazie!!! :D

  • Hi Benny, I love your video, you really inspire me because I would love to be able to do what you do! For the past four years I have been studying Spanish on my own and have reached an intermediate level. Earlier this year, I started studying French as well. There is something that always concerns me though, I am kind of old :( I am 29, and if I continue to learn it will have to be through my thirties, what is your feeling about learning languages as you get older?

  • @pazuzu126 If you search my blog you will see I wrote a post in great detail about this! The title is "Why adults are better learners than kids" ;)

  • at 0:23 you said ____ casi nada i have no idea que dijiste

  • @uniquetricks "sin aprender casi nada"

  • LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE this

  • LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE woooooooo

  • Caramba!

Wow, I've never seen a foreign guy speak so well Portuguese, almost without accent.

    Congratulations man!

  • I nearly busted a gut when I heard you speak Spanish! You accent is perfect; it is so distinct from the Latin American Spanish I'm used to!

  • cool but since when does an orange represent spain

  • @mediumrarekrew Spain is famous for its oranges. Many Spaniards have told me they are so glad to see me use that as the representing image rather than a bull of some sort. It really is a good representing image, and is used on the cover of a lot of tourist / language books about Spain.

  • nice video..your french is very good!

  • @jeshan25 merciii :)

  • its true, i know people in spanish 3 Honors who know less spanish than me even though im in spanish 2, pero tengo familia que hablar en espanol y visité mexico. its true the way they teach you in class and the way you speak around others is soo much different

  • At last, some COMMON SENSE in language learning!

You got the secret in plain view, I believe, that so many teachers forgot to deeply value, because of their excessive attention to empty "forms".

Bravo!

    p.s. Irish is coool!

  • Your German was nice. Rough pronounciation but still quite good gramar and openness.
