How do you have your DNA tested? And which side do you test? I have a ton of Sephardic surnames in my family tree and would like to confirm if I do indeed have any Jewish ancestry. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.
@lungleg nobody has their DNA tested. too expensive, besides your relatives have to be tested too. no lab is authorized to do this. when you hear people talk about testing, know they're lying...
My aunt went to the Diaspora Research Institute in Tel Aviv, and found out our family is a crypto-jewish family. (Colombia). I've always been fascinated by Judaism since I was a little boy. Interesting huh?
why they say for you to be a real jew you mother needs to be a jewish?if its the father that or male that keeps the dna intact... isnt that the other way around=? thru the female dna rthat the jewish dna is passed? maybe not maybe thats why the surname is passed by the father cause the genes are passed by the father... but if u have more races in your family or background are you still a jew or justg a mixed blood celtic roman jewish... specially ashkenazi many look euriopean white not semitic
Bring more Mexican Anusim and there will be a population explosion in Israel. LOL ! Bye the way I'm a Mexican American of a very rich Ashkenazi blood line and I also have Cohen and Levite markers in my DNA.
Brasil, The biggest catholic country in the world is probably also on of the biggest Jewish descendents comunity in the whole world. Half the people who attends to the Sunday mass in brazil has Jewish blood and many don´t know anything about it. Same families had discovered their past ties with Judaism. Many want to return to theirs forefathers faith but don´t know how. The video “A Estrela Oculta do Sertão” (The Cowntry hidden star), by Elaine Eiger and Luize Valente, tels more about it.

Both of my parents are partly descended from Marranos from Spain who came to America before the Am. Revolution. But they went to Holland first and then to the Colonies. They became frontiersmen with Daniel Boone.
America was our Promised Land. I am happy to stay here. I am a member of a synagogue, but everyone else is Ashkenazi. I never met anyone like myself.
Interesting story. I am also descendents of the Bassano, Lupo, and Nasi family originally from Spain who migrated as crypto-jews to Italy, France and later England and the US. There were always rumors that my mother's family was Jewish, We found out it was true when I did some genealogy for my mother. Wow, what a surprise. I am not religious at all, but there are so many aspects of Judaism I really love. I just wished I had a choice to decide between Judaism and Christianity.
Thank you Yonatan. Somehow, I always knew I was Jewish, at least in part. I could just feel it, that's how I knew. Years ago, I told my mother that somehow I felt a kinship with the Jews. She said she had always felt the same. Through genealogy research, my Sephardic ancestors are on both my mom's & dad's lines going back to Spain to Menem Ha Levi & others. Not sure I'll ever convert, but my heart is always with Israel & her beloved people. Shalom.
Can you tell me what to look for as far as geneology is concered? I just started and have always suspected a jewish conection but am not sure what i am looking for
pboisei, my Jewish ancestors came from Spain. To point you in the right direction, I can only tell you abt my search. It began w/a distant relative who did an ancestor search for a high school project. His search took him back to Northern Mexico. I did a google search on the earliest ancestor he had listed. To my surprise, I found many websites dealing w/hispanic genealogy that extended back to spain. Following those sites took me to ancestors that came from spain, portugal & italy. Continued
continued. I found my Jewish ancestors by accident from drilling down into the parentage of each ancestor as far as I could. I was amazed w/each discovery. If you're not hispanic I'm not sure how to direct you. But if you are, then try googling this site: Beyond Origins of New Mexico Families. But for validation you need to have direct ancestors that lead to those Jewish conquistadors. BTW, my wife is a direct ancestor of Luis Carbajal, burned in Mexico City by the inquisition, 1500s.
But the only way to return to Israel is to convert from Christianity to Judaism, right? That presents a problem for many descendants of Sephardic Anusim since they're Christian by birth & may not be willing to give up their beliefs. Example: Anusim of Northern Mexico/Texas/SW USA lost their identity & intermarried over the generations. They're well entrenched into their beliefs & many would probably be surprised to learn of their Sephardic ancestry. I was surprised. Now what?
They are christians by birth, but israelites by blood. They might have intermarried guatay but the identity is not lost at all, actually your DNA stays intact, the women's genes do not interfere with the Y chromosome and the male bloodline remains untouched, there are Kohanim genes in a tribe from africa, and those people are direct descendants ofr the holy priestline that lead the hebrew civilization our of Egypt .
The call is not yours guatay, God will actually call you when is time for you to convert, you will not resist no matter what. There is a world wide call for all the jews from all over the world, read Leviticus and Deuteronomy that will give you plenty of incentives to awaken and join the millions of jews that have return to Israel.
Thanks for your reply, ajua99. Yes, God is always in control & He knows about the Sephardic Anusim & their/our hope for recognition among our people, Israel. But here's a question I hope you may be able to answer: Since the Sephardic Anusim of Northern Mexico/Texas/SW USA mixed with the Spanish, are we still considered 100% Sephardic Anusim? Thanks!
@ajua99 - convert?? Why? Judaism is a tribal identity, not a religion. Therefore, you do not convert to Judaism but identify yourself as such. Just like the Apostle Paul who was a Jew by blood but professed Christianity. Further, there is no return to ''Israel'' as no such nation exists. The Bible clearly states that only the Messiah can establish the Kingdom. So far, I have not seen him nor gotten his instruction to return to the Promised Land.
Once a person finds out the truth, then he has to make some choices, it seems.
The repair of the damage of the past, the damage of trying to survive the hate, is to cling fully to the truth and move forward and to not be any longer afraid of anyone. Not neighbors, not Inquisition, not any force or any opinion, other than what is true.
so that, as the community leader said, people can stick together with others of a similar linguistic and cultural heritage, support one another, and find employment.....it's too bad it has to be deep in the negev....but i hope it becomes a thriving community
It it your understanding that the sons of Esau are mixed in with the Ishmalites/Arabs groups or perhaps some the or in the land of israel today possing as Jews? Iam trying to bring some clarity to this topic and any help/sources would be gladly appreciated
hey i think you make a really important point--i was at a soup kitchen in jerusalem and i was surprised to see a ton of peruvian people coming in....they said they were "found" jews who had been deep in the forest for 500 years that the JA "found".....they were really andino looking, i don't think they were just a hidden community of jews...and now they are living int he streets of jerusalem--not much of a promised land. i think it's great to have a strong community center
Yes... and their ancestors wandered forty years in the wilderness and were taken captive by Assyria and Babylon, were Hellenized, lived under Rome and were again scattered in 70 AD and died int he Holocaust,
scattered again under the Spanish Inquisition and now they are coming home as God promised.
No sir you represent the whole male ancestry line from your father and so forth
because you carry his ancestry chromosones as well as your mother's.
Before saying you are lying instruct yourself in this science.
