Man, you're really smart! Good way to fight for your rights, no unnecessary arguing or yelling. If everyone knew how to talk like this, the world would be a better place. Well, I don't do slackline but I do parkour ( never damaged any property, though ) and I get similar problems often, I feel myself criminalized and I'm only practicing my sport. :(
you are a true warrior sir and i applaud your intellect and courage to stand up for your rights and stand up to the "men/women" who try to take those freedoms from us!!!
Same thing happened to me, more harshly though, here in Porto Alegre (Brasil). Unfortunetaly, there is indeed a rule (from my state's - Rio Grande do Sul - environmental department) stating that no one can attach anything to the trees, and need a permit to do so. I would have to elaborate a project etc. and as i'm lazy i just slackline illegally and fuck it. I am a biologist myself and am aware that i'm not damaging any tree in any way.
I have never done slacklining and just ran across this video by accident but I have to say, what an excellent job sticking to your rights and having the knowledge to go along with it, it's nice to see someone that dosen't resort to yelling.
I think the record is well past 700ft these days. I've personally seen 900. Good job on handling the situation! It's nice to see people realizing that working with the authorities is a lot better than working against them.
so it's damaging trees and causing a safety hazard, but if you go to a city office downtown and pay some money it's suddenly A-ok. You were a lot more polite to the badge than I would have been. also, the bike cop kept rocking back and forth, he have some kind of disability or something?
The issue with law enforcement: They don't know what their enforcing. This is particularly true with highway patrol. I've fought time and time again sticking up for my rights. I'm glad you did the same.
This is not a smart cop. He thinks it's illegal yet cannot back up why it is. Cops should be able to cite laws on the spot to why something is illegal. Don't give me this crap of "you need a permit" and then not be able to tell him where and why he should obtain this document.
Nice to see a video with cops that doesn't end in someone being beat within an inch of their lives, or tazed. There are good, smart, friendly cops out there!
I dunno, seems like all parties handled themselves reasonably and rationally. Nice to see people resolving their differences constructively for a change.
The "security officer" is obviously lying for the whole video. This kind of person makes me so angry - he is just putting his own ignorant opinion ahead of his responsibilities.
@Josiwe True, but that said, I think it's good that he swallowed his pride and was willing to come to a reasonable arrangement, eventually. Also, nice to see a video with some cops who aren't being pricks for once.
I chuckled at how when it was just you and the original officer, he was confidently stating that it was "illegal", but as soon as the SPD showed up, he stated it was a "gray area".
Great job being calm, reasonable, and respectful Adam. This is how the slacklining community should be.
I'm glad he's not one of the people who walk up to an officer, open carrying, to show that police are bad. He's defending his rights like a civilized human.
Fantastically adult negotiation by all. As someone who has seen slack-lining previously however, I think my only recommendation would be that the owner incorporate some kind of fluorescent flagging along the length of the line, particularly in this case where the line is quite lengthy and extends a good ways through the public use area.
(continued...) Applying flagging would allow others using the area to safely pass through with getting clothes-lined in the process - particularly children, who rarely take note of what is in front of them when they run, ride bikes, etc. Other than that, have fun!!!
