Newt, as a historian, you should have known that even as early as the 1500s Marijuana has been used for textiles and fibers (rope fibers)... Do you even know what the original copy of the Constitution or even the Declaration of Independence was written on? Hemp paper, the stalk from the marijuana plant.

@kyrur Well, in that case I don't think you even exist because I would rather dismiss evidence than face something that challenges my indoctrinated belief system, just like yourself.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm washington and jefferson did not grow marijuana, they grew hemp, the most important difference being that the latter is not psychoactive, and has ridiculously awesome nutritional and textile properties.
@louis424 You're wrong about Washington, he grew cannabis for medicinal use, possibly recreational (we do not know for sure). Proof? There is a diary entry where he talks about growing the plant and separating the female, and male plants to late. Research before you attempt to inform people.

@louis424 Pt1) "The... Entries from George Washington's diary show that he personally planted and harvested hemp. As it is known that the potency of the female plants decreases after they have been fertilized by the males, the fact that he regrets having separated the male from the female plants too late (after fertilization) clearly indicates that he was cultivating the plant for medicinal purposes as well as for its fiber". "Sowed hemp at muddy hole by swamp. Began to separate...
@louis424 ... [sic] the male from the female hemp... rather too late" (May 12-13 1765) The reference is from Lester Grinspoon (Harvard University), I pulled it from one of his books titled "Marihuana Reconsidered".

“See, when I smoked pot it was illegal, but not immoral,” “Now, it is illegal AND immoral. The law didn’t change, only the morality… That’s why you get to go to jail and I don’t." Newt Gingrich. The worlds most ignorant and arrogant joke that's being taken seriously.
The thing is, people have this strange idea that legalizing drugs equals condoning drug abuse. Does not banning adultery mean that we condone it? Does not banning dangerously unhealthy food mean we want people to get obese? Legalization helps the economy, essentially strips the mafia of its financial support, enables us to focus our resources on helping addicts, eliminates health risks due to unclean products etc etc. The only thing it doesn't do is lead to a measurable increase in consumption.
I don't like how he states that Washington grew marijuana. He actually grew hemp for rope, paper, clothing, ect. There is evidence that he did also grow marijuana also, but I would like to see a supporter be able distinguish the difference. I strongly believe in legalization in marijuana AND hemp. Plus marijuana is sooo much less harmful than alcohol!! but either way i'll still be smokin = )
I disagree with Cenk on this one, Marijuana isn't good for society so it should be banned. Any form of poison should be banned and Marijuana is just that. The government should promote a healthy society.
1.There is no clear evidence that it is more dangerous than smoking or alc. Many independent rganizations (e.g. Cancer Research UK) agree that the health risks are overblown.
2.There are a variety of health benefits associated with it. According to recent studies from prestigious scientific organizations it contains several cancer fighting agents
3.Evidence suggest consumption and crime levels decrease
4.Banning sth because you can't see its use is dangerously anti-democratic
1. I support banning smoking, I live in the UK where the NHS wastes tons of money treating people from smoking related illnesses.
2. I support the use of drugs for fighting illnesses (prescribed by a doctor) i.e bought from a pharmacy not a cafe.
3- Yes making crime legal does reduce crime. Making murder legal would decrease the number of prisoners. Consumption levels increase as it becomes widespread like coffee.
1 Good for you. At least you are consistent in taking away our freedom. Do you also want to ban extreme sports, unhealthy food, movies/music with bad messages and other things that are "unhealthy for our society"
2 OK
3 No, that's not what I meant. It reduces crime related to drug trafficking and gang violence. Consumption levels do decrease because the millions of $ used in the war on drugs can be used for actually HELPING people. It has HAPPENED ALREADY in other countries.
1) A little fat should be allowed, the government should however regulate the types of food sold in fast food restaurants and make sure that places like McDonald do serve healthy food as well. Healthy eating should also be promoted in schools through education etc.
These types of movies should be rated as PG 18, only responsible adults that can tell the difference between real life and fiction should watch them
2) How?? gangsters would find it much easier to get their hands on drugs which increases crime. Your only replacing drug lords with corporates and lobbyists. One problem the US doesn't have a universal healthcare system and even if it did money would be wasted on treating the public, yes the public from smoking related illnesses and not just the gangsters and druggies. Just like smoking has now become on of the biggest challenges that the NHS is facing today.
Right now, you need to be a gangster to get your hands on large volumes of drugs. Most may get their drugs from friends. But those who need larger volumes or don't have friends who can provide them need to deal with criminals. Prohibition creates a market for violence and crime. This is exactly what happened after the alcohol prohibition. Crime rate increase dramatically and organized crime flourished like never before.
@1SapereAude1 Normal people don't take drugs, anyone who is addicted to drugs must be a regular drug user. Gangsters deal with gangsters it's a fact, legalizing drugs won't change that fact. All it would do is tell the rest of society (which isn't addicted to drugs) that drug use is acceptable, smoking weed would become as widespread as smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee etc. Instead of legalizing drugs schools and colleges should educate people, even children on drug use.
"Normal people don't take drugs, anyone who is addicted to drugs must be a regular drug user"
... ok, last comment. This is laughable. About 30% of the population have smoked weed. The percentage of users who are considered "problem users" is well below 1%. Decriminalization has historically decreased violent crimes and prohibition dramatically increased them. The latest example for the former is Portugal in 2001. You are putting your own sense of plausibility over plain FACTS.
@1SapereAude1 Look 70% of Americans don't smoke weed, 29% are casual smokers and 1% are gangsters/criminals. Instead of legalizing drugs thereby introducing weed to the CLEAN 70% we should work on the 29%. The 29% can be dramatically decreased with more compulsory education on drug use for children and college students + harsher crimes, life imprisonment for users death penalty for dealers etc. by keeping drugs illegal the government can save more money (less people to treat).
Legalization does not increase consumption and harsher laws are not effective. Unless we create a fascist control state of course. You need to accept the simple fact the historical evidence is against you. The 70% will not all start smoking suddenly (would you? would your mother?) and harsher laws will have a minimal effect, and that only if you are lucky and it doesn't backfire. All you have to offer are uninformed baseless assertions. You just assume your way thru this
@1SapereAude1 This extra money can then be used on improving the police force, and ultimately decrease the 29% as well as the 1% since drug dealers will all be sentenced to death.
@word2yourmogwai So why not legalize all drugs, freedom FTW! 100% freedom would be like living in the jungle i.e survival of the fittest. Health should come before freedom, that's why we stop people from committing suicide etc.
@moamin2015 I didn't say make every drug legal. If you make EVERY unhealthy thing illegal there will be more crime, more corruption, more killing. And heroin is legal while weed isn't. It's called oxycontin. That's got to stop. Deadliest drugs are in the medicine cabinet. Why are those legal?
@word2yourmogwai The US government is already corrupt, we should emphasize the importance on education about drugs instead of legalizing drugs. Like I said to the other poster here introduce harsher punishments such as life imprisonment for users and the death penalty for dealers. This would scare away the casual users meaning the government can focus their time & effort on the dangerous 1% (drug lords and gangsters)
@moamin2015 So you're saying that we as individuals should not have the liberty to make our own life style choices? Yes, people should be educated on drugs, but no, people should not be punished for making life style choice which do not harm others.You're supporting a corrupt system. Scare tactics are not the solution, either.Give people the choice, the ones that don't want to won't, the ones that do will.Simple as that. And to add, this war on drugs is getting us no where except further in debt
"Like I said to the other poster here introduce harsher punishments such as life imprisonment for users and the death penalty for dealers. "
You are absolutely fucking retarded. No, I'm fucking convinced. You must have severe atrophy or something. Life in fucking prison for smoking a harmless plant?
So it's okay to throw a fucking murderer in jail for 5 years, but someone smoking pot is worthy of life in prison? FUCK YOU.
@AliceNchainz011 A little fat should be allowed, the government should however regulate the types of food sold in fast food restaurants and make sure that places like McDonald do serve healthy food as well. Healthy eating should also be promoted in schools through education etc.
As for Booze and cigarettes, I'm all for banning those.
Increased crime? more DEPENDANCY? REALLY? There's a reason they don't have Marijuana dependancy program in the drug rehab centers.... wow he's just stupid as hell.
Let's support our troops and pick Ron Paul for our President!
(mainstream garbage propaganda media refuse to report this but Ron Paul gets more than 70% support from our troops) Go to adamvstheman web site and get some footage!

all right the next person who sends me a rant about how marijuana is safe and my cousin and/or his friend was stupid is getting reported for harassment. I hate to do this but I'm tired of all the flaming that is ending up in my inbox. Please just ignore what I said and carry on your arguments with someone else
To kill a lab rat from marijuana it takes 20 pounds....... dropped on it from 20 feet! Just when I thought Newt couldn't sound any dumber, he out does himself entirely.
@scg88 Did you watch the fucking video? He says EXACTLY that. Well, Cenk does. If you're talking about Gingrich, at least specify that before spouting out a vulgar, grammatical nightmare of a comment.
@NascarRCRFan There's always risks while driving. By getting into a car you assume the risks. Do you think anything is risk-free? That family should have told their kid to stop playing in the street.
corporate elites do not want u to see the news stories featured on CHANNELEDKNOWLEDGE:ORG.. why else would the mainstream media ignore such interesting stories? check out our archive and see for yourself..
@NascarRCRFan Go up to a family that their kid was killed my a drunk driver. Alcohol is wrong, but still legal.
Now go up to someone who has been sent to prison with just as long of a sentence as a murderer or rapist because he used marijuana to treat his cancer.
America needs to end these drug wars and restore our personal liberties.
@NascarRCRFan So is alcohol, so lets criminalize it too! Oh wait...we tried that. Let's also talk to people who have been killed by drivers who were sleep deprived, on medication, on cell phones, inattentive, reckless while sober, etc. I hope you see the fallacy of this logic.
@NascarRCRFan Pot does not impair motor function. See the piece the BBC did to show how a taxi driver would do after smoking a joint, he drove better. Pot is not wrong. It is wrong to tell people what they can or can not use in the privacy of their own homes. If you smoke pot and feel scared to drive, unlike booze you won't drive after getting high. You will simply chill out. Peace
Next time Newt has a glass of beer or wine or a shot of bourbon or whatever .... I think he should be executed. After all, alcohol's one of the most addictie and dangerous drugs in the world. I wonder how much Newt would like his own "logic" used on him like that? :)
Using drugs is a temporary solution to a real problem. People use drugs because they are in pain. They want to make it better by artificial means. We all have one need: God. There's only one way to make it better, and that is accepting Jesus Christ as saviour. You can curse and rebel against it all you want, but Christ is the answer. I know you don't want to hear that, atheists, but I don't want to to go to hell. Decide for yourself before you die. It is an urgent matter.
@Iceland1944 god can only befound when u are little and pure not after. the bible even says so. now that that's dealt with so is ur fictional deity and alcohol. i've heard that thousands of times its not true i don't use tree to get away from anything i face my problems and still smoke so do many other ppl i kno so don't use the blinded crap shoved down ur throat to make a point have validity or shut up on a topic u obviously have to clue about
@Iceland1944 No, people use drugs because they feel great. Yeah, they may have a "temporary" effect, but isn't everything temporary? At least with drugs, you don't have to surrender 10% of your wealth like you do with a God that can't possibly care about you as much as you think. So keep "God" out of our politics. This is a nation with freedom of and from religion. We don't need laws telling us how to live because some invisible magic man couldn't do a good job of making the world awesome.
It's funny how all these politicians seem to not know about Portugal. All drugs are legal and there is less crime, obviously, and actually less users than before the law was passed.
@TheAndiePerson They know about it. They just deny it. They don't want it to be true that decriminalisation works, so they deny it. They want and need their "war on drugs". I say "their" war, because millions of us do not support it and never wanted it in the first place.
Yet another example why Ron Paul is the best current choice for president. He's far from perfect, but at least he considers the Constitution and Bill of Rights before considering any legislation.
People: learn the difference between "legalizing" and "decriminalizing." Carrots are decriminalized, alcohol is "legalized." With "legalization," you get taxes, government control, etc. For instance, codeine is "legal." Tobacco is "legal," but just trying growing it in your yard and selling it at the farmer's market and see the gubment arrest you. Decriminalizing marijuana--and all drugs, even crank--makes sense when you consider that people should be free to do what they want to themselves.
I think he's right, but it still makes sense when you consider LIBERTY. Related, if we decriminalized coke, heroin, etc., the cartels wouldn't be making billions upon billions. They'd still sell drugs, no doubt, but it wouldn't be nearly as lucrative. Newt's answer could just as well be used to justify banning alcohol, coffee, chocolate, or sugar. (Oh wait, the leftists in office are trying to do that now!)
I don't get it. Why do Americans keep voting for these BLATANT conservative liars? The only guy who talks some sense sometimes seems to be Ron Paul. I guess that's not what Americans want anymore though, or maybe they just don't realize it yet because they've been brainwashed so long that they can't even tell the difference anymore.
What a bunch of uninformed American idiots they've once again selected for the Republican candidacy.
Experiments like Holland? It never was an "experiment", and even if it was, it certainly didn't increase crime. Crime rates have been steadily falling in Holland for over 30 years. The only tangible problem with weed we have here is that sometimes foreigners come and park their cars in the wrong places, which upsets angry old people, Gingrich' Dutch equivalents.
I was always a hardcore Republican, until I became a Libertarian more recently, and (I can't believe I'm saying this, but) I'm with you 110% on this one, TYT! I thought Newt was supposedly a history major? He's a malicious little sausage is what he is. Nothing better to do but to lock up all those dirty sinners, so the streets will be filled with nothing but Pat Robertson clones. What an idiot. Now, having left the Republican party, I see what everyone was talking about with Newt. Never saw it.
Nah, if all the smokers out there weren't criminals for buying their weed, there'd be probably be a significant decrease. Violent crimes = bad. Somebody doing something to their own bodies without harming anybody else should = a right.
i'm surprised they have been arguing this long. the europeans are doing it all the time and they seem pretty happy. people over there are probably laughing at us because of all this stupid stuff the guys in congress argue about.
@atlas42185 Newt needs a strawman to beat up, so he looks like a "tough on crime" "cultural crusader" to his voters. Funny, I think a lot more Republicans are waking up to this kind of crap, and turning Libertarian. I certainly did.
Here something nobody speak about marijuana: the quality of textile from marijuana is superior to most plants on the markets. Plus it cost less to growth and need less pesticide than cotton. Plus, we could make some good quality bio-diesel from the rest, which will be less pollutant than bio-alcohol from corn... However, it is still illegal because "could smoke the devil weed", and even if people are smoking it anyway!
Newt is a historian and I'm sure he knew that. You see, he can get away with lies, because the average American is a moron and doesn't know he's lying.
@Vyna80 good point. seems like even if they know better, nothing ever gets done. its crystal clear that obama lied and didnt change anything besides his stance on previous pol positions. and yet STILL nothing. not a peep. NDAA gets passed.. nothing. our votes are being obviously messed with in broad daylight if you will, and again, nothing ever gets done. if ron paul doesnt get ellected, than america and americans deserve whats in store for us. just dont dare come crying and btching 2me later!
@bistnenutte Yeah, the average American is stuck in a dream-like trance and all they see is the "R" or "D" next to a politician's name. Some people will always love Obama just because he's a democrat, regardless of the fact that he lied about what he'd do in the white house. Like you said, if Ron Paul isn't the next president, things are just going to get worse and worse, but at least we'll be able to say "I told you so." America deserves everything she has coming, if we can't stem this tide.
Newt is an IDIOT!!!!! Why do you "The Media" give him the time of day. The industrial uses of "HEMP" haven't even been given a chance yet. Wake the Fuck Up!
LMFAO XDXD you stupid arrogant IGNORANT fucking waste of life. "They grew HEMP not MARIJUANA"??? are you shitting me...Marijuana is the plant and hemp is made from trimmings and excess parts of the plant. Get YOUR facts straight....dumbass
To be fair, I also blame all the tobacco and liquor lobbyists who have him by the balls. I don't doubt he would still be anti marijuana even without the lobbyists, but I don't think he would be the lying filth he is now.
Look at him when he is saying what he is saying and read his face people. Look at what you can see and say what you see. I see lies spewing out of his face.
These politicions are stupid all one of the people running for president has to say is, "I WILL LEGALIZ MARIJUANA." And they will take over the world!
@ddisgdiertt1029 They need to rephrase "I Will Legalize Marijuana" to I will STRIKE THE LAW THAT BOUND THIS PLANT FROM THE FACE OF LAW!!! Does that make sense to all who want to legalize this plant when in fact it should not have been criminalized to begin with.
Newts a BAD TRIP... I'm real tired of well-heeled political incompetants telling me what is good for me and what is not. The game is fixed, the playing field is not leveled, they're certainly screwing us and it is time to stand up to them! Gingrich is the political equivalent to Jerry Falwell, the crooked evangelist. The bastards have turned our democracy into a circus and assholes like Newt Gingrich are looking to become the ring-master. It's a freak show indeed! Screw them!!!
We need Newt not only as POTUS but as permanent World Savior. Here's a gentleman who was a leader all throughout grades 1-!2 as well as in college. Was a star athlete: football, wrestling and track, always the captain. When it was time to serve in the military, this guy volunteered without hesitation. Is known as the Mensa of Mensas whose IQ is so high it is off the charts. Is right about everything, has been for 68 years. Cal T is almost perfect. This guy is a divinity.
Newt stands behind big pharma, you know them, they are legalized drug pushers. Newt wants to keep filling our prisons with non-violent marijuana users, cancer patients and increase the job rolls for jailers, judges and avaricious cops. Gingrich is part of the Big-Boy network, you know, those clowns who have been misguiding America unto our ruination. He isn't fit to be dog catcher in a one-horse town. Yes, your stoned and joking, my misperception, my bad.
Gingrich calls himself a historian yet didn't even know (or purposely tried to mislead) that they grew marijuana? How is this guy credible?

I don't like how he states that Washington grew marijuana. He actually grew hemp for rope, paper, clothing, ect. There is evidence that he did also grow marijuana also, but I would like to see a supporter be able distinguish the difference. I strongly believe in legalization in marijuana AND hemp. Plus marijuana is sooo much less harmful than alcohol!! but either way i'll still be smokin = )

I disagree with Cenk on this one, Marijuana isn't good for society so it should be banned. Any form of poison should be banned and Marijuana is just that. The government should promote a healthy society.
moamin2015 1 week ago
@moam
1SapereAude1 1 week ago
@1SapereAude1
4.I'd rather be ant-democratic than inhumane
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin

These types of movies should be rated as PG 18, only responsible adults that can tell the difference between real life and fiction should watch them
moamin2015 6 days ago
@1SapereAude1
2) How?? gangsters would find it much easier to get their hands on drugs which increases crime. Your only replacing drug lords with corporates and lobbyists. One problem the US doesn't have a universal healthcare system and even if it did money would be wasted on treating the public, yes the public from smoking related illnesses and not just the gangsters and druggies. Just like smoking has now become on of the biggest challenges that the NHS is facing today.
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin2015
1SapereAude1 6 days ago
@1SapereAude1 Normal people don't take drugs, anyone who is addicted to drugs must be a regular drug user. Gangsters deal with gangsters it's a fact, legalizing drugs won't change that fact. All it would do is tell the rest of society (which isn't addicted to drugs) that drug use is acceptable, smoking weed would become as widespread as smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee etc. Instead of legalizing drugs schools and colleges should educate people, even children on drug use.
moamin2015 6 days ago
@m
1SapereAude1 6 days ago
@1SapereAude1 Look 70% of Americans don't smoke weed, 29% are casual smokers and 1% are gangsters/criminals. Instead of legalizing drugs thereby introducing weed to the CLEAN 70% we should work on the 29%. The 29% can be dramatically decreased with more compulsory education on drug use for children and college students + harsher crimes, life imprisonment for users death penalty for dealers etc. by keeping drugs illegal the government can save more money (less people to treat).
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin2015
You just assume your way thru this
1SapereAude1 6 days ago
@1SapereAude1 This extra money can then be used on improving the police force, and ultimately decrease the 29% as well as the 1% since drug dealers will all be sentenced to death.
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin2015 criminals will make more money, the government will get bigger and waste more money, and people will lose freedom. terrible idea.
word2yourmogwai 1 week ago
@word2yourmogwai So why not legalize all drugs, freedom FTW! 100% freedom would be like living in the jungle i.e survival of the fittest. Health should come before freedom, that's why we stop people from committing suicide etc.
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin2015 I didn't say make every drug legal. If you make EVERY unhealthy thing illegal there will be more crime, more corruption, more killing. And heroin is legal while weed isn't. It's called oxycontin. That's got to stop. Deadliest drugs are in the medicine cabinet. Why are those legal?
word2yourmogwai 6 days ago
@word2yourmogwai The US government is already corrupt, we should emphasize the importance on education about drugs instead of legalizing drugs. Like I said to the other poster here introduce harsher punishments such as life imprisonment for users and the death penalty for dealers. This would scare away the casual users meaning the government can focus their time & effort on the dangerous 1% (drug lords and gangsters)
moamin2015 6 days ago
@moamin2015 So you're saying that we as individuals should not have the liberty to make our own life style choices? Yes, people should be educated on drugs, but no, people should not be punished for making life style choice which do not harm others.You're supporting a corrupt system. Scare tactics are not the solution, either.Give people the choice, the ones that don't want to won't, the ones that do will.Simple as that. And to add, this war on drugs is getting us no where except further in debt

HomelessOnline 1 week ago
People: learn the difference between "legalizing" and "decriminalizing." Carrots are decriminalized, alcohol is "legalized." With "legalization," you get taxes, government control, etc. For instance, codeine is "legal." Tobacco is "legal," but just trying growing it in your yard and selling it at the farmer's market and see the gubment arrest you. Decriminalizing marijuana--and all drugs, even crank--makes sense when you consider that people should be free to do what they want to themselves.
HomelessOnline 1 week ago
I think he's right, but it still makes sense when you consider LIBERTY. Related, if we decriminalized coke, heroin, etc., the cartels wouldn't be making billions upon billions. They'd still sell drugs, no doubt, but it wouldn't be nearly as lucrative. Newt's answer could just as well be used to justify banning alcohol, coffee, chocolate, or sugar.
