  • I mean 1:54

  • 1:57

  • If they stopped the race, the ambulance didnt arrived fast to the injureds.

  • 1:13

  • "Quick, look up to the sky!" "Is it a bird?, is it a plane?" "Arrgghh fuck it's an engine!!! Ahhhhh!!!!".

  • Those idiots should've stopped the race.

  • @4wheelerDJ The race was continued, officially in order to prevent departing spectators from crowding the roads and slowing down ambulances.

  • @Feanor89 still...the race continued for eight hours before finish...long after all over 200 wounded & 83 dead were removed and taken to hospital they still went on...Mercedes even approached jaguar to quit racing...Jaguar refused...and even celebrated their victory with smiles & champagne,...a disgrace!!!...it took both mercedes and jaguar 30 years to return to Mans.....

  • I'd rather watch this than 99% of what's on television today

  • dun get it why did they continue the race =.=

  • the healey that launched the merc is now on sale for 800.000 pounds

  • A crowd got hit by a 500 pound engine travelling at 125mph, that's nasty...

  • モータースポーツ史上最悪の大事故。ドライバー、観客、コースマーシャルを含め80人以上が死亡。

    ドライバーのピエール・レベーは即死だった。メルセデスの暗い過去。

  • I love how people are so retarded until a bunch of people die, i mean come on seiorusly letting people stand pretty much on the track, or being one of those people who are like "damn this spot is the shit I can almost touch the ca HOLY SHIT" right before their body gets shreaded like cheese.

  • fire men fight the blaze while the race goes on..... lol

  • here is the thing. final distination is not even exagerated badly at all. it was only this year that i found out people can easily get torn apart literally by moving objects. its almost as if i was in denial.

  • @ChickenCritters I called bull shit on final destination as well, its fucking crazy that its true

  • Noen andre som kom her fra VG?

  • @AkonRobinho ja XD

  • @AkonRobinho ikke jeg

  • Wow........um......yeah.

  • Death trap cars

  • magnesium,hahahaa,lol,realy stupid...

  • @gentleuterus this race isn't about cars going around in circle.

  • WOW

  • Funny how back then they always added dramatic music to everything.

  • Cars made of magnesium alloy? Even in the 1950s people knew that magnesium is highly flammable and almost impossible to extinguish once on fire.

  • have been reading about the austin healy that is for sale that clipped the merc that crashed, £1.000000 it is going for. such a sad day that must of been.

  • The fart dont kill, its the smell.

  • these trolls actually kept racing for money after almost 100 ppl were murdered during it... thats whitey looking out for his own for ya.. pathetic

  • @StatusBaddest I don't get why they continued the race, I agree with you there. The show must go on is a bit over the top in this instance, even by 1050's standards... but to say they were murdered and your "whitey" remark, automatically makes you a mindless animal.

  • the background voice clearly said that most of the drivers were unaware of the tragedy

  • @StatusBaddest

Nope, officially they kept the race going to keep all roads clear for the ambulances. Picture a quarter of a million people going on the road after canceling the race.

  • The #26 Austin-Healy that was involved in this wreck has recently been rediscovered this week and is soon to be put up for auction.

  • i wonder what it'd be like to see a 500lb object flying towards your oh so fragile face.

  • @bmassakre ask your mom lol

  • @madhatter0110 she said you damn near suffocated her and something about she should've been on top. :D

  • wow so this is where FD4 got the idea of a race accident

  • lol

  • pretty fucked to put an advertisement on this video

  • If you pause at a certain point, you see someone who has lost their head in a crash.

These people came for enjoyment. Imagine their horror when an massive pieces of the car fly at them. RIP to all of the deaths, condolences to their families and friends, and RIP to all other fatal accidents that have occoured, and will ever occur.

  • too horrific ><

  • Magnesium alloy? Yep that'll do the trick.

  • The Final Destination 4 :o race car crash scene

  • Pause at 1:20 that fucking kid had his head sliced off, thats horrible

  • Now imagine if they had HD and slow motion back then.

  • oh my god this is so awesome

  • I've never seen an accident quite like this one.

How in hell did the car disintigrate so badly? Spectators had no chance

  • @KevE63 in that decade, car performance doubled, but safety and rigidity stayed static.

  • OMG! The bits flying off the car and into the crowd look nasty even without being there.

  • @KevE63 included in those "bits" are the front axle, body panels, radiator, and the engine....a 500 lb. projectile.

  • the 50's voice makes it sound like a parody joke

  • this guy needs to get his head checked. dramatise the event with emotive words but a 'you saw it here first folks!' tone of voice, sadistic old fuck.

  • bath tubs filled with gasoline and 4 wheels

  • Jesus, I knew all about this crash but I'd never seen any footage of it before...

  • "The Mercedces-benz was made of a magnesium alloy the blazes like a furnace" Where are these commentators nowadays?

  • See them put water on the magnesium fire at 1:50 and whooosh!

  • @northroad1 chemistry major? :)

  • @dic3ful Geology major. It rocks!

  • Imagine your mum or dad died in front of u so for all of you disrespectful bastards think about that

  • safety barriers - check

Thank God, we learn from our mistakes

  • Its actually more than 80 spectators that died.

  • Pussies, are they gonna go cry to their mommy's now?

  • They must've been off their heads standing that close to the track.

  • How can car crash take the same amount of casualties as a terrorist attack? World is a strange place.

  • @goldbullet50 Because the bonnet of the car spun into the crowd and decapitated many spectators, the front axel and engine block also flew into another section of the crowd. Since there was no such thing as safety in 1955, the crowd was packed and fully exposed if anything flew into the spectator areas. Hope that answers your question. If it was a rhetorical question then sorry for wasting your time.

    Also read the description.

  • @rossy2by5 Well, it was supposed to be rhetorical question, but I don't mind about good replies :)

  • Officially, 84 dead, plus 120 injured.

  • Damm... it's Really Hard to see... I Don't recomend it...

  • Ouch

  • Damn

  • Have some respect!!!...

  • @PURE3DECO no its the le mans 24hours, same as today

  • Christ! A magnesium alloy body.... Did they pump the tyres up with hydrogen? and maybe stuff the drivers' seats with gunpowder?

  • 83 died in total, they continued with the race to allow all the ambulances to get away. If they'd stopped it, all the roads would've been jammed by spectators leaving.

  • There was also an medium-well done body in 1:26.

  • That was an awesome crash.

I cannot help but lol at the fact that they used a metal that burns so hot that even LOOKING at it is dangerous.

  • Speed kills.

  • spell right you fucking mong

  • FUCK SAKE - top comments regarding a fucking conspiracy theory! its captured on video.

These fuckheads who dont believe osama is dead and we landed on the moon.

  • Some have no doubt already said this in the comments but when you re-watch the video understand that spectators were decapitated before your very eyes when the bonnet hit the crowd. Absolutely shocking if you ever look deeper into this crash.

  • Most bad crash

  • I wondered why they do not use magnesium in motorsports. I guess thats why.

  • And they completed the race.

  • anybody notice they miss spelled crash

  • @Motoriceburner :) Thank you for having a sense of humor.

  • @BitchesLoveHardstyle I was not trying to be funny. Just asking a logical question.

  • my goodness never heared about this before i read it today.

    so horrible

  • As much as I hate to have to put this - to the idiot complaining that they didn't see any decapitated bodies there's some poor person missing his head at 1:32. Couldn't believe how close people where allowed to stand to the track!!! I know its a totally different era but surely just a smidge of common sense and imagination will tell you that standing that close to machines travelling at 150 mph is never a good idea?!

  • @JusticeShades Hindsight is always 20/20.

  • Betwen 80 and 120 dead

  • RIP.

  • 83 deaths!

  • The Mercedes engine was heavy making cornering difficult. Magnesium body made it even deadlier.

  • It's horrifying how safety was once an afterthought, far below looking good or being famous. No pit lane walls, no safety barriers or retaining fences, no thought for constraining cars as they neared spectator. Tracks which are "primitive" for safety today (e.g. Watkins' Glen) look state-of-the-art compared to how Le Mans once was.

This one accident produced half as much death as 30 years of the Dakar Rally combined, and Dakar is one of the most dangerous ever except for the Mille Miglia.

  • @BitchesLoveHardstyle I was watching Final Destination 4 with my mam when she told me about this .__. I came down after the movie... and this is just like it O:

  • @BitchesLoveHardstyle yes people dying is the "coolest fuckin shit dude"

  • @BitchesLoveHardstyle Wow, you're really a retarded piece of shit

  • @Schwammerl3k Oh come onnn it was a joke.

  • @BitchesLoveHardstyle You really need to learn when to tell a joke, there's nothing funny about this.

  • Nice vintage vid :)

  • I can't believe they went on with the race.

  • @Yougimpytube The official reason given for going on with the race was to keep the fans from leaving and being on the road at the same time as the ambulances. They figured it was better to keep everything clear for ambulances to be able to get to and from the track.

  • @buckeye1022 That makes a lot sense, I couldn't see why they would go on with the race either. Cheers.

  • @Yougimpytube They had gone on, to able the ambulances to reach the circuit, if they had stopped the race, thousand of people would leave the race, stopping the rescue. sorry for my bad english i'm italian x)

  • @davideforzalazio92 Why would they stop race.80 lives less, more .Who cares .ROFL.

  • That looked like hell to be in that car when it was summer salting in the air, he flew out of the car and went head first into the pavement, then his engine came off and hit people in the crowd, it's nice to see more protection these days in racing though

  • water makes metal fires worse........

  • @doodkabob The Merc was made of magnesium :/ someone put a load of magnesium powder into a cloth and set it on fire at school, someone put water on it and WHOOOOFFFF :(

  • I am always appalled by the human's sheer stupidity, even at today's motorsports, such as rallying, tons of spectators simply stand reallly close to the street where 400hp monsters passing them by at 200km/h, back in the 80's one crashed wrc car caused 10 death of spectators. Though much less deaths than 1955 LeMans, however these tragedies were repeated on and on....

even animals can sense the underlying danger while humans on the contrary couldn't.

  • @zhengjdc I don't think it's that humans can't sense the danger, it's that one the whole we don't care. There's something exciting about cheating death. That is until something tragic happens and you're among the dead.

  • Lol the commentator's voice makes it sound way less serious.

  • All I can say is that a crash like this probably would have happened sometime later, so we should thank all of the dead here for giving us the safety rules that make modern racing safe but still enjoyable

  • @WayfstrthnU Have you watched formula 1 lately?

  • FAKE!! lol... but seriously RIP

  • @oeuvrededieu you are one bastard. dont u have a heart?

  • Fucking crash and disaster... Very sad...

  • Worst crash at circuit de la sarthe ever....

  • @oeuvrededieu take a mirror....

  • Wow le mans is an amazing race but this just goes to show you what a dangerous sport car racing is. All of the fans who were killed and pierre lavay let you rest in peace:)

  • which track was this on? it looks like either the nurburgring or circuit de la sarthe. but im just a 16 year old kid, what do i know...

  • @drifter233

    Its Le Mans...

  • This is what racing is about. Risk versus Thrill. Racing today is too controlled.

  • and the race goes on!!!!????????????

  • @Tnesjed Look at the previous page (or two) of comments for an answer

  • @Tnesjed

Actually the race goes on for a good reason. There were a lot a people there, and at the end of the race, when everybody leaves, there is a lot of traffic. They kept the race going so the crowd would stay, and so it was a lot easier and faster to get everybody to the hospital.

  • Am I the only one who feels the narrating extremly cold and distasteful? I mean they even added dramatic music like is a movie

  • @yorchito0808 Cold? Maybe a bit, but its informative and not overly sensitive (today' reporters would almost cry). It were a different (tougher) times - 10 years after the biggest war in the world. War pilots were the first real drivers, and many after them shared similar attitude. Between '54 and Senna death in '94 24 drivers died at F1 events only, and you would have to add many more spectators and drivers in lower formulas (f.e. one of the best F1 drivers Jim Clark died in Formula 2 race)

  • @marshad82 About the music - look at today's documentaries etc. and you will find music in most of them, and it will be quite dramatic, and will be creating right atmosphere for the topic. Looking on it from 'technical' point - in the opening 11s you can hear the music, then engines and tyres accompanying commentary, until the crash. What would you like to hear from then on? Silence is no option, would you like to hear all the screams and cries? Not to mention how many cuts were made there.

  • unlucky 23, you know the number that that becomes evil as you see it. 2+3=5, 23-5=18, 18/3=6. 6+6+6=18. The Devil = 666^^

  • @Miamicop100 thats one of the stupidest number "coincidences" i've ever seen. wanna know a good one? add the numbers together on a roulette wheel and u get 666

  • The biggest killer was the engine (that huge black mass tumbling at high speed away from the primary collision site). The hood, also detached and decapitated several people, but this happened quickly and is barely discernible in the video. Numerous other bits of debris and the mag. fire killed everyone else. Levegh was thrown clear and died of brain trauma.

    PS-Please don't feed the trolls.

  • beutifull cars

  • @GearsofMaverick You serious mate? Or troll? Don't know which is worse.

  • @marshad82 im serious this is from some movies in the 50's looks stupid

  • @GearsofMaverick Alright, then wikipedia it troller, it has been recorded as the worse crash in motorsports history, IT KILLED PEOPLE, DONT BE AN ASSHOLE AND SAY IT DIDNT EVEN HAPPEN

  • @GearsofMaverick You sir, fail >:(

  • @GearsofMaverick

    no, u are retarded.

becouse the video, fake or no fake, is really that in 1955, 83 person has die for a incident while the 24h du mans.

  • @GearsofMaverick funny how with everything that ever happened,no matter how well recorded, there are some idiots who wont beleive it.

  • Very sad. RIP..

  • How idiot were those damn racers , why didn't they stop the Goddamn race ?!!

  • @VTC1000HP I saw a documentary about the crash, it was told that if they had stopped the race, the huge amount of spectators would seek their ways out of the event and could block the way for ambulances to get to the injuried. The number of death could be increased if the race was stopped.

  • @hh85 well that's a good reason xD

  • The best race track! Here are some of my videos on Le mens track:

    /watch?v=CZi2FzfBnEA

    /watch?v=0poS9wNDIl0

    /watch?v=iXEKGaYAuCs

  • @jpzhouutube

idiot... in this video all can see like the race can be tragic.

    1955, 83 person die...

and u come here linking your stupid videos vanity, like u have money and burn it.

becouse me too have gt5 and tv, but u are a very porchy pig rich.

  • It is incredible to believe how this race was even allowed to take place knowing what we do now. We had a circuit designed in the 1920's with no safety run offs at all, the only tyre barrier was a tree!! Than you had very light cars using very high octane and very flammable avaition fuel with in excess of 300BHP that could do 190mph along the 4 mile straight with brakes that would not be up to a 1.2 Punto these days Just suicidal man!! Even more tragic for Levet and those poor souls and families

  • people got decapitated and crushed and all that :/

  • LOL pouring water on the burning magnesium. Isn't that a surefire way to cause more explosions?

  • @timlamiam You betcha! Never use water on burning magnesium. You will never be pleased with the result.

  • Holy shit.

  • I just saw this video in Science class today. It may have been a different clip, but it's the same content.

  • TL;DR SKIP TO 1:14

  • @McSqueaky

take that shit back to reddit cuz we dont want no part of it.

  • @aesutton Whatever, you know most people clicked on this video to see an explosion.

  • R.I.P!

  • trying to take off the fire with fire extinguisher will only make it worse since magnesium when burning can eat oxygen as well as carbon dioxide

  • @LordApocalypse7

You still don't buy this "80 dead" Story?!? You've made a callous and idiotic conclusion from reviewing a few minutes of video? The FACTS of this accident are well established and have been thoroughly anylized by several historians. Crack a book... try Death Race: Le Mans 1955 by Mark Kahn, based on interviews with Macklin; and Le Mans '55: The Crash That Changed the Face of Motor Racing by Chris Hilton.

You can have your own (absurd) opinion, but not your own facts.

  • @rustycuyler What I'm saying is most of those "80 dead" probably died from other things than the debris. Fires, crowd crushes (which have made much more victims in sports than direct car crashes, by the way). But a hood flying straight through 80 heads without loosing speed or fall down, that's just ridiculous. 80 people in line is a LOT, you'd see it in the video. The trajectory of those debris clearly doesn't allow that. Want factual evidence? There isn't a single decapitated body in any pics.

  • @LordApocalypse7 "There isn't a single decapitated body in any pics." - then, I assume, You've seen nothing about this accident. Simple. You should also listen to what witnesses have to say about decapitations.

  • @LordApocalypse7

Most of the deaths were directly related to the crash. The engine came free and killed many people as well as the fire from the magnesium body. Heavy car parts flying at 150 mph directly into a crowd will do some damage. The facts aren't up for debate here, it's well documented what happened at the race, do a little research.

  • @sherman3211 Levegh's 300 SLR struck the mound at such speed and angle that it was launched into a somersault, which caused some parts of the car, already damaged and loosened by the collision, to be flung from the vehicle at very great speeds. including the bonnet and the front axle, both of which separated from the frame and flew through the crowd. The bonnet decapitated tightly jammed spectators like a guillotine. the car's heavy engine block also broke free and hurtled into the crowd

  • @LordApocalypse7 what do you smoke. dont buy it. maybe we should drag all the american bodies back from okinawa before you will believe apples are toffee coated at fun fairs. you mong. british news has never been propoganda of any kind. it is said as it happens. wait till you loose a child sad man.

  • @999widgey How is this supposed to convince me?

  • @999widgey

British news is no propaganda of any kind? Get your head out of your ass kid, all news is propaganda.

  • @LordApocalypse7 Killing at best 2-3 people? Are you serious? The debris didn't fall down quickly. It flew through the air, bounced and bounced over and over again flying through the air. You're trying to analyze this to make yourself look smart when you have no clue. The debris was moving over 150 MPH. Getting hit with a nut or bolt at that speed could kill someone, let alone a whole motor and suspension pieces. I've read the book by Chris Hilton, maybe you should as well.

  • @LordApocalypse7 You know nothing! Well documented facts fly in the face of your incredibly moronic comments. Use your fingers to do some research instead of playing with your tiny pencil-dick.
