I have a hand tame conure and every time I put him on my shoulder he bites my ear or my neck ... He's not being aggressive and he's not off balance he just gets a lil too rough ...how do I make him stop?
@Sethybeth well you should not try to ouch their tail and feet or try to touch them from behind ..it will scare them .. they also dont like being touched on the head but only if their not use to hands or if its someone new as for the crest sometimes they see something or hear something so it will be up, dont try to push it down .. it wont work lol umm yeh thats all i guess
My tiel wont bite or anything, he'll step up, but he will NOT stay on my hand. Guess what he does? He climbs up onto my shoulder, and will not "step up" off my shoulder, he just stay on my shoulder. What should I do?
when i first got my cockatiel the first thing he did was fly strait onto my shoulder and to this day if i take him off he cries and flies right back on. it is by far his favorite place to be.
i love your training videos. i love how you established bond with pearl and pumpkin! i'm gonna have my tiel this Christmas. hope i could train him as well as you do on pumpkin and pearl. =)
by the way, do you have any idea on how to tell a cockatiel's age when you just bought it from a pet store? 'coz i wanna get the younger one so it wouldn't be that hard to establish our bond. tnx! =) hope to hear from you! =)
usually they are 6 month old when they get to pet stores...at least the ones i seen here...
you can always ask the workers if they know Also young cockatiels have a intense screech rather then a whistle unless someone was spending a lot of time with them already... but most likely not
You can also try and get one from a breeder if you do some research, then you would know more details about your cocaktiel
=] sry for bothering you, but i was wondering if Pumpkins wings are cliped ^_^ im getting a bird and wa wondering if i should clip his wings or not =] any help would be greatly apreciated.
no they were not ... but it does make it the bird trust you a bit faster ..that is if you take him out and he will have to rely on you to put him back in the cage ..etc
Hey it's me again lolz. I have these crackers and I was wondering if feeding a cockatiel crackers is ok. I tried giving him a little and he loved it. Prolly because of all the little seeds in them.
i have a cockatiel too i started training him today i am trying to make him bite the stick then click and give him food is that right? Is name is Sid and if i let him out of the cage he flies and i didnt cliped his wings...
dont worry this takes time for them to get use to you and gain trust and after a couple of training sesions he will sit on your finger but it depends on your cockatiel some birds gain trust faster then others

Thanks :) I'm working on that. Sometimes I wonder is there a place where you should not try to pet your teil, an area that would seem agressive?
Also sometimes she just sit n my hand with her crest up, like wachdoin? :) she is sooo cute

When I got my bird from the pet store, he already knew how to step up. He likes to climb up to the shoulder, but not fly to it.

what happens if my bird is like 4 to 5 or 6 months olds can it be trained like that, or try to train them how to fly.
heathot3 2 years ago
of course you can train them at that age ..the younger the better you can start from 6 -8 weeks i believe
izabelas000 2 years ago
like when i try to do the trust exercise, sometimes they kinda run away, by the way whats a good exericise to teach them to get on your finger.
heathot3 2 years ago
try
Clicker training #3 - sitting on my hand
