i have heard the studs are possible to install with cab on on an 04, is that possible? I did an egr delete as soon as i bought the truck, owner before just replaced cooler and oil cooler. so far no problems. i do alot of work on Peterbilts and other heavy trucks but this is my first powerstroke. Thanks for the great videos
This is a great set of video's, i just bought a 2001 ford exploer sport track with the 4.0L SOHC engine, i was wondering if you have a video on replacing the time chains on one of thos lovly unit's? i know the right head has a chain ont eh abck of it from the balancer shaft thats the part that gets me, i wondered if tis doable without the special J Tools, Thanks

Good evening, I don't have a video showing the timing chain cassette replacement on the 4.0lit SOHC. I do know how to perform this, but I just haven't done one since I started my videos. It is a great engine, but to time the engine, you must have all the special tools and even then, it is a very difficult repair for those who are not experienced with this engine. If not performed correctly, engine damage will occur. I will record the next one I do!
@srmastertech Cool man well send me an email when ya do mebob2001@gmail.com, i am accully an an apprentice in canada right now in this trade, so i at least have a godo idea of whats going on, but i still dont think i wanna attempt this, due to the rear timing chain on the back on the right head, it lookes like a pain.

The truck in the video had the head gaskets fail due to the owner loosening the cap for the cooling system. That cause the engine to run hot and the heat allowed the head bolts to strech causing the gaskets to fail.
It's a common problem with these 6.0 liter Powerstroke's. Especially with the factory torque to yield head bolts. That's why you hear a lot about people installing head studs.
Thanks for leaving a comment! In my opinion, the 6.4lit is junk! The lower end is very weak compaired to the 6.0lit. As for the 6.7lit, this one Ford did right and I love it! They have been very reliable and have no serious problems. The only problems I have seen have been on chassis cab models only.
Just had this done on my 05...what a joke! 3k later it runs but still leaks coolant somewhere! Have you ever worked on the f150 ecoboost yet? Think that's my next truck! And awesome videos BTW!
Thanks for the great comment. If your still using coolant, theres a problem! Keep an eye on the oil level, it could be entering into the crankcase. It is also possible that you may a EGR cooler that could be leaking. As for the Ecoboost, what an awesome engine. The direct injection is much more efficent. So far, I have only worked on the Ecoboost in class. In the real world, they are working great with no problems at all!
This is money for you of course but if I owned the truck I would find the Ford engineers and hang them on meathooks over my BBQ. Great video as always!
Actually you want to go after Navistar, they engineered this disaster! Ford engineers are responsible for the new 6.7 in the 2011 F250's and this one is done right. They have been out for a year now, and I have yet to work on one!

@MoLovesEverybody
If your using stock OEM head bolts, no you do not have to remove the cab. The head gaskets can be replaced with the cab on!

just how did, and in what way did these head gaskets fail?

I bet the owner was thrilled to hear the head gaskets were gone along with the egr cooler and all that.

He was especially distraught to learn that he caused all the damage himself. I can guarantee he will not leave a coolant cap off again!
