Carrie Newcomer has so many talents, melding into her songs. Musically, no two songs sound alike; the variety of rhythms, tempos, and moods is exceptional. Poetically, her handling of words is exquisite; she is the only writer of whom I've thought, "I wish that I had written that. Maybe I could have written that if my life had gone otherwise." Thematically, she is the epitome of a certain Midwestern sensibility; down to earth and kindly, with gentle humor. Theologically, sound.
