Very cool and informative! My only gripe with Brawl Ike is that he's too slow, and he doesnt jump high enough...while in his original game he's practically a back flip criticalling cheetah. Seen when he does back flip criticals and various cutscenes in both PoR and RD with him running. Something happened to his agility, and I want to know what and why xD

The Aether in Brawl was taken from the Map Animation and regular animation of Aether. The slash up word, then from the regular animation he throws the sword and the downward slash. So technically it still is a two-hit attack.

On Roblox (a online game based on legos) there's a place called "Fall Down Stairs" which you fall to get a point and you can buy the Ragnell sword here too. And you can use the Aether move like Ike does in brawl..

Let me remind you something, Ike's moveset is indeed rough and likely the idea was from his games but you gotta think realistically here: he uses a two-handed sword in one hand, despite how strong Ike is, it's quite stressful.

I certainly doubt every regular attack he does is a reference in some way to the two Fire Emblem games he is in: Simply picture yourself swinging a two-handed sword with one hand and look at Ike's moveset and notice how much they make sense.

In path of radiance, I somehow got Ike to learn Astra, the 5-attack ability which all swordmasters could learn as an occult scroll.

So Ike's participation in Brawl takes place between FE9 and FE10. This must have been the reason why he's grown HUGE in the sequel; from fighting all kinds of opponents.

Probably implies that it's Soren/Senerio or Mist who warps him into the stage.

Quick Draw and Aether are obvious. I never would have noticed the connection to Bolganone. I suppose they couldn't name it that, since he couldn't use spells. That's an interesting perspective on the origin of Counter. The actual Counter skill in PoR triggers so rarely, it's useless. Although, You're kinda stretching it with the up attack - land and sky - as well as Great Aether.

@SobmicSSBB: I have news about Ike's moves history, please read this: In the full intro video of Fire Emblem POR (1:25), one of Ike's counter attack against Greil has a striking resemble to Ike's smash attack in brawl.

Also, based on what I read before on the internet, Great Aether is suppose to be a reference to Ike's final attack to Ashera in Fire Emblem RD. The only problem is, the flame surrounding Ike is blue in Fire Emblem, instead of Red as in Brawl. But anyway you had explained it.

other than the fact that, when attacked by a sage hit with bolganone at 2:35, Ilyana isn't equipped with anything (i can see why, for the vid, but it's still a bit strange) i think it's a very well-made vid, i can see your reasoning behind all your deductions of ikes moves, i do, however agree that ike's aether move came more from the mercenary animation in the other games, and that great aether came more from POR, including upped power to compensate for the weaker aether earlier on

Great video, really well done. I don't know why Radiant Dawn got such bad reviews - I loved it. The only things I didn't like was that there were too many super strong characters, and you couldn't choose what to do when promoting a character.

It's obvious that when the devs were looking for moves for Ike, they looked for the games he was in, i.e. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, even more so since Marth is supposed to be the one who represents the entire series up until Ike.
