Honestly, I think Russel T Davies wrote this ending so that Meta-Ten and Rose could come back one day, both human and looking older. It wouldn't make much sense if David came back as a pure Timelord, plus he would evidently have gained a few lines on his face. So he was given the chance to come back later as half-human. Same with Billie. Rose might just come back one day just like Sarah Jane did. RTD was pretty clever!
It's really sad. She gets her Doctor in some form it's very bitter-sweet. But I think he left without saying goodbye because he couldn't bring himself to say it. He couldn't bring himself to say that he loved her because then he wouldn't be able to leave her. And saying goodbye would be to admit that he'll never see the woman he loves again.
OK, this is why I dislike River. Rose was the one. Sure, she has her 1/2 doctor, but I really hate how he (the doctor) just bounced back. 4 seasons of build-up, and now he's off snogging someone else! On a different note, I hope they bring Rose and 1/2 doctor back for the 50th. I'm curious as to what they've been up to. *eyebrow waggle*

Rose will never be FULLY happy with TenII, she may learn to love him the same way as she did the Time Lord but there's always going to be a part of her thinking about the man who left her behind. Although I have made my peace with this ending I still feel like they changed Rose's character just so that they could use this ending.

God, this is so hard to watch. There's so much in just this one scene: The (real) Doctor loving Rose but being unable to by being what he is; he can't give her what she wants, so he doesn't tell her he loves her. The clone can afford to, and so he does. Rose loves the Doctor but kisses the clone because, ideally, he is the same person, but one that can love her. And then the Doctor walks away, forever fucking alone. ;_____; WAAAAH.

@Aysuchan It would have happened anyway. Rose would have aged and died normally, while the Doctor would have continued regenerating. He gave her the clone as a testament of what she did for him, she made him better.

Actions speak louder than words, folks. The are the same individual, but one is human, mortal; the other a time lord, ageless. This was the ONLY way they could be together. Sometimes you don't have to say 'I love you' in order to say it. 10.2 and 10 are the same, but 10.2 is the human part which was 10 lacked. In this way I think 10 could still be with Rose and be at peace with himself. I don't think 10 was sad, in fact, I think 10 was relieved.
This makes me cry every time. It's the look that original Ten gives Rose as she's kissing 10.2...That cold look. He just leaves, no 'goodbye' or anything. That gets me every time.
The Doctor loves Shakespeare, so he knew they were star crossed lovers. He knew he would eventually have to regenerate, he knew she would grow old and he wouldn't. I don't feel that Rose and 10.2 will immediately get a room, I think that they will 'get to know each other' even though they already know each other. She'll realize that she loves him, and be grateful to Doctor 10 for the 'parting gift'. It was kind of him to say ,"Does it need saying?", His true answer would have haunted her.

And according to Davies, this beach scene originally included a part where Donna and our Doctor give Rose and the meta-crisis a piece of TARDIS coral so they can grow one for themselves and travel the stars in Pete's World. Though the scene was cut, Davies assures us that it's fine to assume that this did in fact occur. Which I like to believe.
TBH - i feel more sorry for 10.2, cause 10 loves Rose and Rose loves 10....but 10.2 being half human aside is the same person, and his feelings run just as deep for her....now we know Rose is settling for him....and i don't doubt that they'll eventually be happy together....but he'll always know that 10 is her real soulmate which is heartbreaking cause he was born in love with her...so he'd feel he is, but he's not :((

Just spending a few days running through the old episodes on netflix. Somehow I missed this episode and infact missed the whole planet theft story that proceded it. Amazing writing and it ties up loose ends well. KInda sad, yes; but that is the life of the doctor. Now if the newer stuff could pick up the slack.
Every single line in that scene makes me cry, but that look... that look on the doctor's face at 3.21 literally breaks my heart. This is all so unfair.

Where the regenerating Doctor is scared to let himself open up like that, knowing that someday she, like everyone else he cares for will grow old and die, the part-human Doctor can let himself open up to her and express those emotions. So, in the end she got the Doctor. The same man, the same memories, the same feelings, but that is able to be with her forever, to open up and not stay that little bit aloof.

Man, I just watched this episode on BBC America and they CUT OUT THE KISS, what the hell? I just skips to commercial after the "growing old" part and then when it comes back the real Doctor and Donna are already on the TARDIS.

This was the very first episode I saw and it was completely by accident. I wanted to know what happened so I watched the whole thing from the beginning.....the 2nd time I watched it I bawled my eyes out. I couldn't figure out if I was happy or sad but I know I'm now a Doctor Who fan forever and will always love the 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler!
I cried so much during this scene, This was so sad... because Rose has always been the best companion during this whole Doctor Who seriers... In a loving and missing memory, Doctor and Rose.
I think the episodes with the living plastic, shows how nothing except the real Doctor will do compared to a copy. It really showed that if the real and clone Doctor switched places without anyone knowing, "the real" Doctor would still be classed as a higher and better form of life. At the end of the day this clip is sad because the copy took Rose, but at the same time the copy is as much a timelord as the Doctor, aside from the fact that he is not burdened by the timelord curse...to be alone
I'm down with all the companions, Donna and Sarah Jane especially, but yeah, Rose got my heart :3 And tut tut, Doctor. Bad Wolf straight obliterated (that she could reach) every Dalek through time and space for you--You (or should I say Steven XD) can't reeaaaally think I buy that argument about TenII needing to stay behind, do you? Just a way of cleaning up all his ties and pushing people away in the end because he knew about the metacrisis and wanted Rose to be happy, even when he wants her.

Actions speak louder than words, folks. The are the same individual, but one is human, mortal; the other a time lord, ageless. This was the ONLY way they could be together. Sometimes you don't have to say 'I love you' in order to say it. 10.2 and 10 are the same, but 10.2 is the human part which was 10 lacked. In this way I think 10 could still be with Rose and be at peace with himself. I don't think 10 was sad, in fact, I think 10 was relieved.

This makes me cry every time. It's the look that original Ten gives Rose as she's kissing 10.2...That cold look. He just leaves, no 'goodbye' or anything. That gets me every time.

The Doctor loves Shakespeare, so he knew they were star crossed lovers. He knew he would eventually have to regenerate, he knew she would grow old and he wouldn't. I don't feel that Rose and 10.2 will immediately get a room, I think that they will 'get to know each other' even though they already know each other. She'll realize that she loves him, and be grateful to Doctor 10 for the 'parting gift'. It was kind of him to say ,"Does it need saying?", His true answer would have haunted her.

to make matters worse.....along with always feeling inferior to 10 (i believe that Rose will carry 10 in her heart forever..you never forget 'THE ONE') ,The Doctors whole life is the TARDIS and space/time adventures...10.2 will never have this...His psychic link to the Tardis is gone, which is devastating for him i bet....10, although heartbroken still has his main reason for existing, and his home...will reluctantly move on with new companions/adventures...It's very sad for both, but 10.2 :((

@rochey1010 While I agree that Rose will always carry our Doctor in her heart, I don't think she's settling at all. She chose the meta-crisis. And according to Davies, this beach scene originally included a part where Donna and our Doctor give Rose and the meta-crisis a piece of TARDIS coral so they can grow one for themselves and travel the stars in Pete's World. Though the scene was cut, Davies assures us that it's fine to assume that this did in fact occur. Which I like to believe.

TBH - i feel more sorry for 10.2, cause 10 loves Rose and Rose loves 10....but 10.2 being half human aside is the same person, and his feelings run just as deep for her....now we know Rose is settling for him....and i don't doubt that they'll eventually be happy together....but he'll always know that 10 is her real soulmate which is heartbreaking cause he was born in love with her...so he'd feel he is, but he's not :((

Just spending a few days running through the old episodes on netflix. Somehow I missed this episode and infact missed the whole planet theft story that proceded it. Amazing writing and it ties up loose ends well. KInda sad, yes; but that is the life of the doctor. Now if the newer stuff could pick up the slack.

Where the regenerating Doctor is scared to let himself open up like that, knowing that someday she, like everyone else he cares for will grow old and die, the part-human Doctor can let himself open up to her and express those emotions. So, in the end she got the Doctor. The same man, the same memories, the same feelings, but that is able to be with her forever, to open up and not stay that little bit aloof.

if you think about it, even though the BBC are trying to make out these are two different people, it's actually David Tennant playing both parts..so..Rose actually did kiss the real doctor. It's obvious but I just thought i'd point it out:)

When the Tenth Doctor dies, and Eleven is born, the soul that is in the Tenth Doctor and the bit that's in the clone will combine and the Tenth Doctor will get to grow old with Rose. Cause I think each regeneration has it's own soul and body but the same memories, emotions, and intelligence. So usually when one dies, he just dies and the new regeneration is born but the Tenth Doctor's Human form has the same soul (or at least part of it) as the original Tenth Doctor, so when Ten regenerates int

This scene just proves that the doctor DID love Rose no matter what all the Martha/Amy or other shippers think, as much as it kills that 10 has now regenerated and Rose is no longer his companion it's still a wonderful thought that Rose and another version of 10 are living their lives and hopefully have kids of their own, urgh...i need to go read some fanfiction to ease my pain :(

This was the very first episode I saw and it was completely by accident. I wanted to know what happened so I watched the whole thing from the beginning.....the 2nd time I watched it I bawled my eyes out. I couldn't figure out if I was happy or sad but I know I'm now a Doctor Who fan forever and will always love the 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler!

I think the episodes with the living plastic, shows how nothing except the real Doctor will do compared to a copy. It really showed that if the real and clone Doctor switched places without anyone knowing, "the real" Doctor would still be classed as a higher and better form of life. At the end of the day this clip is sad because the copy took Rose, but at the same time the copy is as much a timelord as the Doctor, aside from the fact that he is not burdened by the timelord curse...to be alone

I'm down with all the companions, Donna and Sarah Jane especially, but yeah, Rose got my heart :3 And tut tut, Doctor. Bad Wolf straight obliterated (that she could reach) every Dalek through time and space for you--You (or should I say Steven XD) can't reeaaaally think I buy that argument about TenII needing to stay behind, do you? Just a way of cleaning up all his ties and pushing people away in the end because he knew about the metacrisis and wanted Rose to be happy, even when he wants her.
