from my own memory and deductions i would say the violin was used by amazigh some 100 years ago. drums are the original musical instruments for amazighs i would say.

the violin is not european son, it dates back to the arab in andalous and the persians too. the european only refined its look maybe theorized the music in paper as did ibn ziryab of andalous.

@chakssam,the violin dates much farther back.It came from the Far east as the erhu.The Silk Road was quite the trading route.

@namniekib The Erhu more than likely evolved from the rebab or similar 1 and 2 string spike fiddles played in Africa and Persia. Whether it appeared first in Egypt or Sumeria, one can only guess...
