  • Nice work, and great idea!

I see this is not a finished work yet but could you show us sometime someone actually playing this?

  • Would be great for parallax scrolling . . . but why?!

  • its paper mario! xD

  • lol... i have to say that i get left is to go left and right is to go right, you dont have to repeat it 100 times

  • this would've been the top game if tv hadn't been invented..Can't wait for him to make a mechanical COD4! lol

  • nice concept but...its a little weird,a moving tv?...brilliant!!!

  • Tomorrow's tech is to make things tiny. This project can be smaller than that, come on.

  • Humm, you can't walk back in SMB1...

  • isnt it easyer move the background??

  • Fully agree. Like the cartoons do, You use a spool of paper (mario levels) that simply spin to move mario. Im sure you can be creative and make a marking system on the paper that a LED and sensor can read to indicate where walls are, so it will stop unless mario jumps..

  • No, I don't agree. Since it is reality. It gives me exercise!

  • xD good Mario rlz

  • Cool! jump movement could have been faster

  • This video is my hundredth favorite. =D

  • impressive, it's actuwally pretty cool but load.

  • i didnt like it,

  • impressive!!

  • Thats awesome. I knew something was weird when Mario walked playing that game.

  • Recently, we've made a project in our school like your Moving Mario. It is called Super Mario Enconor. Please, check it out! Thanks!

  • amazing job guys ! fantastic ! bravo !!

  • LOL

  • this is actually kinda cool

  • Interesting

  • i dont get it.............?

  • Cool?

  • Great realization.

But for lazy people like me, it would be better if you added a rail mounted chair moving along the screen :)

  • cómprate un 9.999.999 en 1

  • you should get some award for this. and you should make one for the second level as well lol. this probably took a while didn't it?

  • Whats the point?

You're not playing a game are you? Theres no obsticles.

  • I am playing a game.

may be you can find some points in the project page. Thanks.

  • Good But What If The platform maved and not the tv?

  • If just moving the platform then the "game" cannot "force" the player to move/walk along with the game/mario. And Mario will then just stay almost in the same place physically (more or less, he can move a bit forward and backward ).

  • how did you make the platform?

  • The platform you are meaning is the "game stage"?

  • This is great no matter what anyone says!!!

  • WOW!!!!! This is great!

  • ...This...the reality of moving the screen and not actually 'moving' Mario...

    My videogaming illusions feel...broken.

  • This looks to me like it was a college project or something. It must've been fun to make, I'll give you that... :)

  • except the screen doesn't scroll left in super mario bros. and remember Donkey Kong? it had a still background. it never moved. in fact, that's actually how a lot of games were back then.

  • All these people seem not to be grasping the true beauty of Moving Mario.

Of course there is no point in playing this game, and the explanation may be a little too long (perhaps even humorous).

It is obviously not meant to be 'played', it is more like a piece of art (even if accidental), and one of the greatest I've ever seen! Congratulations!

  • nice

  • 提供一個不同角度來看我們所熟悉的事物

    nice idea!

  • I don't want to be rude, but what is up with the negative comment ratings that say what this really is? Good work, you have nice mechanical skills I'll give you that.

But the reasons why an actual game will always be better than this are virtually infinite. Good looking, but try something different next time you build. How long did that take to make, anyway?

  • Pretty cool idea, but have you actually even PLAYED mario!? @_@

Really weird that you spend so long explaining how the character stays still and the background moves, when this isn't how Super Mario Bros actually plays AT ALL!!! He can move independently of the scrolling, plus can't actually move the screen left once it's scrolled right.

  • Nice job!

  • I have to say this is a little pointless. What does this accomplish?

  • school work?

  • What was the reason behind making this? It seems absolutely pointless.

  • You spent 3 minutes describing how it moved, which I understood after 10 seconds. However, you blaze through all the interesting stuff (making of) without explaining anything. Thanks a lot.

  • Wow... that would get so boring after like... 5 seconds. There's no objective. You just move the TV.

  • Nice concept, miserable attempt. Now that you've wasted your talent on something useless, now try doing something with a point, like researching Western and Eastern medicine for years until you have a solution to the AIDS epidemic.

  • to 4dville: what a dumb ass comment... do researchers who combat viral epidemics create circuits with microcontrollers and steppers? i can't even see how you derived your comment. its like asking a plumber to figure out a solution to side-effects of genetically modified corn..

  • He studied that shit and made a Mario game. He could've spent his time studying viral epidemics or ozone depletion or alternative fuel sources instead. He could've still studied electronics and made a cardiogram machine or something. Something USEFUL.

  • Sadly, I agree....

  • That's really cool!

  • it's a wicked piece of art, bozos.

  • : )

  • He was trying to explain the concept of videos games.

The car, character, object, what ever the game your playing, is the background that moves.

He did something that no other game did so far, where the background is not moving.

He did the opposite of the games.

A really nice work, a lot of effort in this I see.

    Good job!

  • that was really cool.

  • cool idea, looks like it plays really slow, though

  • i want a good mario movie!!!

    pl0x?

  • Wow...So with all the next gen games hitting the market you think bringin mario to the stone age is going to be cool

  • no point to any of this.

  • that is so awesome.

i will own you in super mario.=].

i wonder how long it took them to put it all together.?

  • lol thats so cool XD it's weird how playing mario for long still left me ignorant to how it was done O.o hahahahaha

  • gayest shit ever

  • Hi, be an ass somewhere else.

  • I don't think this is true. If it were, Mario would always be in the middle of the screen, but sometimes he goes to the left of the screen or to the right of the screen

  • You could also fall into oblivion sometimes too. So?

  • awesome!

  • you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • waste of time.

  • why wouldnt you just get a wii?

  • Great job!

  • good job man ;) this is the future of gaming lol xD

  • Not really.

  • good work!

  • random

  • interesting, yet pointless.

  • nice.

  • Attack of the show

  • Genius

  • u couldnt go back wtf

  • REal FINE!!!

    =]

    good job!

  • That was uber boring.

  • gay it licks b@ll$ lmao

  • awesome

  • cool

  • okay... what the hell was this?

  • too, too, too, too, too, TOO much explaining. definately, i even didnt make it to the end, it was so boring

  • you REALLY didnt need to explain it that much dude. you could figure it out from that 5second clip at the begining

  • So what is the f'n point of this? None. FAIL.

  • umm ?

  • This is the perfect movie for the term : EPIC Failure

  • you got that from attack of the show lol

  • Thats the longest way to say the background moves I've ever seen

  • Genius!

  • Lol try it with Sonic Rofl. You proberly collapse half way of playing the first level.

  • that was hilar!(hilarious)

  • this must be fun to for someone i guess

    i don't see it...

  • You're only a couple of decades behind... and still wrong about some things. Ex: When the character is on the left-hand or right-hand extremes, the platform doesn't move. Instead the character does.

Platform movement vs character movement is a matter of perspective to the viewer. The game itself is performing a combination of both.

In Mario Bros. 1, the platform only moves to the left. Any time you move Mario to the left, the platform does NOT move.

  • Now all you need is a treadmill and you'll be set..

  • i think he explaind that the left button makes the screen go right and right button makes screen go left a bit to much. we know wat the buttons do im sure weve all played every mario game a trillion times over alredy lol

  • ya cuando vi los circuitos logicos y los programas decidi no hacerlo xDDD

  • Should of used a conveyor belt to move the player.

  • Great video...but for the love of GOD...stop explaining the same thing over and over again. YES. We KNOW the A-Button is for JUMP! The TV SCROLLS! We get it!

Christ on a cracker thats annoying.

  • wow this is much beter dan mijn xbox 360............NOT:(

  • should have just put the bg on a scrolling mechanism. then you wouldn't have to follow the screen.

  • The point was to physicalise the player's movement, not the game's virtual movement. Its meant to make you think about your relationship with the game.

  • ....................wow i have no real words to discribe it sept wow and maybe "IF YOU WANT TO PLAY MARIO GET AN NES!!! THAT MIGHT HELP!"........... but WOW it is sorta cool i think! =?

  • this is the largest piece of shit i have ever seen. instead of moving a digital platform you move a piece of paper with a picture of mario printed on it. wow, fucking amazing. what a clunky and worthless piece of crap.

  • That is a cool concept!

  • lol

  • lol this way u americans can walk while playing, getting the exercise u need!!!

  • This is so quirky, it's utterly awesome. 5 star's!

  • interesting 5 stard

  • lol i never thought of dat

  • cool

  • this was cool, except in Super Mario Bros, you can't move left, the game won't let you

  • freaken amazing

  • there really is no point to this

  • Nice creativity dude!

I would've most likely given up after the first hour.

  • I really don't see what's the point of this display.

  • Too much of a hastle

  • mmmmmmmm, fasinating. Looks like a blast

  • creatived ,,,,,,,,,,good luck ,fuck wat these haterz say

  • This was a VERY interesting concept! I don't understand why poeple think this is stupid;I think they just don't understand it.People who are interested in the video game industry should really take note from this! 5/5 I loved it.^^

  • Also, there's a reason why this vid is called "Moving Mario" because the concept is that the game "Super Mario Bros." is NOT moving Mario but instead, moving the background! This person built a mechanism to show the actual game as you're MOVING MARIO and NOT the background.Since Mario HAS to stay in the middle(since it's a side-scroller),the whole t.v has to move! This is the concept of a side-scrolling game. Something that people tend to over-look.

  • Except that

    1) Mario doesn't stay in the middle, and sidescrollers move when you've moved past the middle by a certain distance

    2) Mario Bros. 1 doesn't allow you to move left (the background will only scroll left, not right). So even if this was done in 1980 it would still be wrong.

  • He wasn't trying to actually reenact the actual game. He was showing the concept of a side-scroller in another point of view. And the side-scroller moves to the right once the player is in the middle. People like you think that he's trying to re-invent the game or something, saying crap like "playing that would be boring". That's not his goal in mind.

  • lame

  • umm... waste of time and money.

  • uh...sorry but that's never gonna make it

  • now that's what i call a side-scroller!

  • lol bad punchline dude

    but made me laugh lol

  • yea it was supposed to be the corniest line ever. i think i've succeeded. :P

  • Gay, person that made this needs to be killed =D

  • by the way, mario can't move to the left. he gets denied!

  • Cool, I guess...A bit over-thought though.

  • Idea stupid. Intelligence required to put the idea into action: more than average. Sorry, I just don't see the point in this... It's nothing but paper being moved across paper... Just really stupid.

  • dude, I would get so bored playing this.....

  • Man... I had this idea years ago.

Keep crackin' on it, and fix that business about SMB scrolling to the left. The art world might not know that you're cutting corners there, but deep in your heart, you know and it keeps you awake at night.

  • O.o someone need to .. Idk get laid idk buh preety cool ^^

  • haha

  • cool!

  • ......wow

  • WTF WTH

  • tahts gay as hell

  • Nintendo WII Sounds Familiar?

  • @PratzStrike

    justdoit015

    xoghar

Right, and you guys are busy saving the world every friggin day of your lives?

  • this seems stupid

  • so...is the idea of advancing virtual reality the goal of making it so real it will look no different than reality thereby encouraging basement game addicts into reality? lol, just kidding. except you dont get infinite lives in reality lol so cant be a dumbass.

  • awesome concept

  • This is an interesting creation, but you can only go so far with the idea. It falls under the Wii category.

  • But it's ART! Useless, crappy art, but ART!

  • what about fire mario?

  • yet another waste of time that could have been spent finding a cure for a life threatening disease.

  • No time is being spent on finding CURES anyway so why not make this?

  • ...lol why would anyone want to move while playing mario?

  • to get you excercise and lose that weight, you couch potato you. lol jk

  • Its like the Soviet Russia version of a video game console.

  • cool

  • this is pretty useless..

  • cool

  • The idea is good...so far!

  • VERY HI-TECH GUYS, GOOD ONE.

    NOT.

  • whats the point?

  • that was fucking stupid

  • cool concept, but this is going absolutely nowhere

  • good job! looks like it took a long time to build, i wonder what took longer, the construction of this replica of world 1-1 or the actual original programming of world 1-1 for the NES?

  • This is a horrible concept. Plus, the goal of a video game was NEVER to get rid of the player/game barrier, it was to make it fun.

  • very interesting, i liked it

  • its a good idea, but you could see the things infront, and there isn't any body to kill, plus the brick movement is way to slow. get a plastic cover, add a bigger cog to the brick mechanism, and insert the mushroom guys, put them to a convare belt, thats about it, good job!!!

  • im sry. but this is really stupid. lol

  • sucked wtf this is not going on stores

  • That is some crazy high tech shit right there, nice job!

  • Really interesting concept! If they perfect this and touch it up, people might really get into this.
